That internal L-bracket isn’t for protecting the bit. It’s there to prevent the bit from falling out completely if it were to completely come loose in the holder while you’re carrying it.
@@Mikey-ym6ok they’d have to redesign the retention system to latch onto the bit instead of using a friction retention. Seems like they’re married to the friction method for some reason.
For that price I better get a bit kit. Honestly should include both sleeves and the extension bit. Is this light enough to actually keep in the pocket?
Yes, but all those tools being outside is a game changer I edc a heavily modded wave plus. . And I never thought I'd wanna replace it but I'm considering it
Very nice. If one wishes for mere ‘tool jewelry’/‘man-jewelry’, than it’s perhaps a bit of pricey vanity. All in all, Leatherman is US made, has earned the reputation and name, stands by their warranty (I’ve had to replace just one), and find that if you need an uber-convenient & ergonomic toolbox, $200 is rather reasonable. The ol’addage sensibly stands, ‘you get what you pay for.’
.....way over priced. I am not a blade steel snob and I know how to sharpen properly. The SURGE is still king as a proper working tool and the WAVE+ is more than adequate for day to day use around the house. I removed the small screw driver thing from my wave + and replaced it with an awl I made.
Too expensive for you doesn't mean it's overpriced. Also like how you had to go pit of your way to make a tool for your wave that this already has, proving it has a better tool set. Also, just because you have enough spare time to constantly sharpen shitty steel doesn't mean everyone does, or wants to. The steel also has more benefits than edge retention, corrosion resistance and toughness are also improved.
I'll agree that it is expensive buy I have that much in my wave +. I order rebar pliers and rebar awl off ebay and put in my wave...all the rebar tools fit the wave. Also order the charge s30v blade off etsy and have it in my wave now this tool is here ill up grade to this for the outside tools. And there is no reason to put down another person for the way they think about prices of things we all have different financial views and situations
@@dieselgoinham oh for sure.. the pliers 30$ the awl $15ish s30v $60 plus the 119 for the wave 20 for the sheath and 20 for the double ended whia bits is is about the same for the arc but I did this over a yr ago...
Sorry but it's not sharp for me do leatherman have blade sharp out of the box like spyderco or are they all like that My rebar wasn't sharp out of the box too
You wont anytime soon. It'll probably be 10-15 years before you see a clone because this is patented. The patent expired on the wave and surge multi-tools is why you see more and more clones of those.
Theo, when you popped out the tools from the side with the awl, it looks like the scales at the top are scratched/scuffed?? Quality control issues or am I seeing things? It’s the scale at the top the same side as the awl.. it’s defo scratched up 😢 pause at 3.11
@@vimw1 very well put! Either way, loving the look of this and the tool set it pretty awesome! Looking forward to UK release so I can add to my collection 👍
@@llama307 ahh at least I wasn’t seeing things haha.. At least it doesn’t detract from the functionality and it will get scratched with use anyway. I just thought for the price, the quality controls should be higher you know!
I randomly walked into an army surplus store that deals leathermans, and to my shock I bought an arc yesterday. I have no idea how they had one, mine came in a box not litature. Sticker shock, my first day of use. Pliers are solid. The action in opening is great. I prefer the tools over the wave, and I consider the wave a religious icon. It is an elegant refined design, less bulky and sturdy. My one note, hanging in my pocket it scrapes my hand if I need my keys.

Very cool. Can’t wait for it to come out !
That internal L-bracket isn’t for protecting the bit. It’s there to prevent the bit from falling out completely if it were to completely come loose in the holder while you’re carrying it.
If that’s the case, shouldn’t they have focused on designing it to stay in tight in the first place?
@@Mikey-ym6ok they’d have to redesign the retention system to latch onto the bit instead of using a friction retention. Seems like they’re married to the friction method for some reason.
ich dont know why they arent using the skeletool bitholder. i guess there is a reason but its the best holder they ever made @@Mikey-ym6ok

The wave+ has the micro driver as well.

Every tool with the bit adapter can use the micro driver
@@dieselgoinham the current surge has the large bit adapter but not the micro.
@@blm232tx I'm aware, you can buy a bit for $8 that allows you to use micro bits with the larger driver.

No, that coating is going to be a finger print magnet
