    Tanglefoot is Pine Tree Resin thinned with oil (Linseed or Castor). Also, why not paint air mobiles and paint them royal blue? Clean up with Pine resin is oil soluble, so the best way we've found to clean it off of our hands is to rub coconut or olive oil all over any sticky spots. I get coconut oil from Dollar Tree (Black people use it for hair treatment). I get Tanglefoot from Ace Hardware. $9 now in 2023.

    Shane-You seem to be the deer fly expert on youtube! I have deer flies in my yard. They seem especially drawn to the cypress trees there. Please give me your thoughts on this. Blue balloons tethered about 6 feet off the ground and coated with Tanglefoot and filled with helium. A little breeze would give them movement. Inexpensive to replace if they pop or deflate. If it's plausible I'd love to see a video of you experimenting with it.(I can't bring myself to wear a blue Solo Cup on top of my head)

    Insofar as I know, that tanglefoot stuff can also get a bird or squirrel on it and sticking so it can't get off. The beastie will die a slow death if there's nobody around to free it up.

      I thought the same thing not long ago, I was a woodworker and carpenter etc... but I didn't have a clue how to weld. I decided that was no longer acceptable for me. So... I changed that.
      That said, You CAN weld... this is a cheap machine that can do the job. (not affiliated) www.harborfreight.com/flux-125-welder-63582.html
      A few RUclips welding videos and you are sticking metal together!
      Now, I know not everyone really wants to learn how to weld... or whatever... but I can tell you for sure that new skills are a very satisfying acquisition that no one can ever take from you. So, whether it is welding, or painting pictures, or running a 3d printer or gardening, or whatever else flips your switch, go get 'em tiger! YOU can do whatever you set your mind to!

    • @AHandleOnThings
      @AHandleOnThings  3 года назад +5

      Deerflies are much more attracted to moving targets and although they will hit any color, they seem to target "blue" best. In the peak deerfly season I often put blue buckets with tanglefoot painted on them on the mirrors of my truck and drive slowly up and down my driveway and roads adjacent to my home. It is beyond incredible how many deerflies I catch each trip when I do that. Because deerflies seem to be a "single hatch" per season, this tremendously shortens the amount of time I have to deal with deerflies around the house. I literally catch pounds of deerflies sometimes... pretty gross really.
      Stay safe and have a great year!
