My curiosity did send me down the path of growing a yeard without the use of oils or butters, washed my beard with dr.bronners with luke warm water twice a week and rinsed my beard cold instead of using beard oil and this did work untill my beard reached 6 inches and started hanging from my chin. At the point of 6 inches it was impossible to brush the bottom of the beard because the comb did get stuck, then I started to use oils for a few months and this was not enough either. Then I started to use shea butter within 3 hours after the oil and this made my beard more managable but there was still a problem with brushes under the beard. Then I bought conditioner and I started to straighten the difficult parts with the blowdryer on medium heat on good disance to my beard after every cowash and this made the difference. This last week I did have a smooth hair structure for the first time since I started this process of testing the need of products. Now my first yeard goal is reached I've learned to use products when growing for a big beard and cold water rinses are amazing for the texture. Was never planning to keep my beard at this lenght I was just in it for the yeard but I can't shave, this beard stays!
I remember in December 2019 I got my foot long beard trimmed, and this beard was like dry straw because of hair dye and the use of a heated hair straightener. After that cut I decided to regrow the beard without any of this damaging stuff but shaving was out of the question. Instead, for months I took an inch or so of growth off to get to that fresh growth. It took 2 years, but now I'm back to a foot in length. It's virgin hair with hair dye and I don't think I ever used a hair straightener on any of it, and it is substantially better: softer, fluffier, and appears visually thicker likely from the reduced breakage.
i was freaking out recently. no hairs falling out, and on a beard oil routine now but my question is: if there’s a split end i didn’t see, if it splits all the way up, is that follicle dead? can it regrow hairs? and also if a hair is very curly like feels like weirdly curly, should it be trimmed off? i never ever wanna shave my long beard but i panicked a little recently i do have very curly beard hairs but just wondering where the line is between removing bad hairs vs butchering your beard out of fear
If you're trying to grow a nice beard it's crazy how much work goes into growing a nice beard you want to wash your face 1-2 times a week, put beard oil/butter/balm in, figuring out what style of stache goes with your face, eating right. which I've always done so that's easy but i never used to wash my face , never used moisturizers and i don't brush the hair on my head but brushing a beard helps stimulate growth so i brush before bed and when i wake up
When you say "at the root", is that the same as the little white bulb? I thought as long as you have the little white bulb at the end of your beard hair, it was just normal hairfall?
What is good when ur beard hair end starts to split like 1 hair into 3. I use argan oil and it seems to be better. I used before like 2 and half years beard dye and never again. Now i got my fresh new beard but dint use any oil for it, dint know this things. A friend sugested argan oil, and it helps much, but i keep get like split beard hair on the end. Any tip? When i set argain oil it iches litle on the skin, myb beard was dry. Before dyieng coloring beard, my beard was feeling so alive, and now after 2 and half years it comes back to be good, just this split hair ends make me problem.
i agree 110 percent Routine is key from the moment you decide to Grow a beard and putting those oils on straight after shaving is the best from experience if you start out healthy skin then the hairs will be healthy from the get go and in a hot climate definately use more oil 2 or 3 times a day in summer well for me anyway

I'm getting severe breakage caused by heat styling...3rd time of shaving it off and it keeps growing back damaged and brittle. What could it be?

is it harmful to trim just the bottom ends of your beard?
Not at all! I regularly take of the ends to tidy up the lines and get rid of split ends
