    Just stumbled across this - could have done with doing so when it came out as in the meantime I did pretty much the same research and came up with the same answers! Beserkers, WFRP etc. Great video - I've subscribed now.
    I'd been going through my old 1980s Dwarfs with a view to sorting them out into some sort of playable army for The Old World (or 6th/8th Editions WFB) and was disappointed that out of a considerable number (40-odd) of Norse Dwarfs I only had one beserker (well two, but the same model - the 'Total Loony' as he's known in old catalogues). A model I had always wanted was the original Juggo (Perry Twins according to Lost Minis btw) as the first game of WFB I ever played was The Magnificent Sven - with the card and paper cutout figures that came with it. I knew there was a Juggo in McDeath which we also played back then, but as you show in the video the card counter for him looked like a human even though he was supposed to be a dwarf - I never discovered until recently that they used one of the best beserker figures for him if you bought the minis. Anyway I've got both of them now and am very happy with them!
    I really don't like the vast majority of proper Slayer figures - weapons too big, a bit OTT in general - and much prefer the beserkers even though I'll have to field them as Slayers. Got most of them now. I'm going to claim Kimril Giant Slayer as a beserker though despite his name. He also appeared as the representative figure of the beserker unit (The Enforcers) on the flyer for the 'sample armies' that you could buy by mail order and came with the original Ravening Hordes. One of the other 'Dwarf Lords of Legend' (Throbin Death Eye) also featured in that as a hero that commanded the beserker unit - he had a different name though. Lost my original copy of the flyer, but found it online.
    Thanks again for the video, really enjoyed it.

    There is a purity to the Slayers like no other fighter in Warhammer. Losing all honour and respect from your fellow dwarves, you forsake all you know to die a glorious death at the hands or claws of the meanist thing you can find. Throwing themselves at mighty beasts in hope of dying spectacularly is just so cool. It is why I dislike the Fyreslayers. Slayers forsake material wealth of gold and such and wouldn't adorn themselves in finery - to me anyway. There is a line in one of the Dwarf armies book somewhere that states that no matter how great the demon or dragon or what have you, if enough slayers are present then the fell beast will be laid low. So cool. - Also, I enjoy your videos, man. Good stuff :)

    Another great video, sir! While I never played a Slayer in WFRP the characters always intrigued me. I dug the whole vibe of these garish maniacs committed to death.
    And I never quite got the dismissal of the Warhammer world as just being a generic mash of fantasy tropes...I suppose it's a fair comment, but I don't think it holds up on its own as actual criticism.

    • @jordansorcery
      @jordansorcery  Год назад +1

      I think there’s some fair things to say about the magpie like creation of early Warhammer lore, but I do believe that the way it was all combined (and added to) is what made the world so compelling, and ultimately unique. And the slayers are a great example of that to me - they’re fun and silly and brutal in all those great Warhammer ways!

    I loved the idea of the dwarf slayers, and had another mate not already claimed a dwarf army when we were in school, I think I would've gone with dwarves, and in particular, slayers.
    I actually dislike the Fyreslayers as an army though - as an elite option, they're great, but too much of a good thing, without the lore to back them up, and they are just bland...
    I think it's interesting though that the new Orruk Ragerz units have basically inherited that lore though. Orruks who were shamed somehow, so try to reclaim their honour by going into battle in the purest form, no armour, and big sticks.
    Sucks they aren't dwarves, but close enough.

    I suspect that the fire slayers and skaven will probably get their range refresh next year or in the next couple of years as I have this feeling they are wanting to remove the rest of the old fantasy models so they can be reboxed for the old world game probably launching next year along with probably AoS 4th edition.

    • @jordansorcery
      @jordansorcery  11 месяцев назад +1

      I think you’re probably right, it definitely seems like the WFB armies that were ported over to AOS are now all being distanced from their TOW equivalents.
      The fact that Skaven are explicitly not in TOW (yet) makes it seem like they’ll have a while to wait though

    • @bionicgeekgrrl
      @bionicgeekgrrl 11 месяцев назад

      @jordansorcery hopefully the recent underworld sculpts for the skaven could be a hint at a future range refresh, those are rather nice.
      My thinking for aoe 4e is it will be order vs chaos or destruction potentially, which could give us the skaven or refresh of one of the daemon factions, possibly slaanesh as they are looking rather in need of a refresh and they did the larger daemon models and mortals for them fairly recently. However as you say, they are like skaven not part of the story for tow 1e. Pure speculation om my part.
