    Just got done doing a Pass. front Ujoint on a 03 2500..... I have NEVER had such an issue with a Ujoint IN MY LIFE. Ive been doing this for almost 15 years and have never come across a more stubborn Ujoint. I Literally had to take the grinder out and chop the Ujoint out and bust the caps through backwards. I used a press, PB, FIRE, more fire, more PB and ALOT of hammer. Finally got fed up with it not budging a cm. Ive done hundreds of Ujoints, easily. Usually throw em on a vice, take the c clips out and a few whhaapps with a hammer and bam job done 20 maybe 30 minutes max.... NOPE, not this one. 2 and a half **hours** later got the grinder out.
    BTW a 6" diam. grinder wheel can fit all the way around a Ujoint without damaging the ears :) The more you know :)

      Dang man that’s rough. You did pull the retainer clips on the inside of the ears right? I definitely pressed on one for a while wondering why it wouldn’t budge before I found where the clips were located. They were gunked up with grease and dirt so I couldn’t see them at first glance. Glad you finally got it sorted.

    I've got a 2nd Gen 2500 I'm getting ready to do this same job on. I'm super jealous your hub came out with some hammer work, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to do use the power steering and a 1/2" socket to get my hub off. Great video!

    First off thank you for a well filmed and informative video. Clear, easy to see hear etc! is there a reason that you need to take off the hub? once you remove the 4 bolts holding it all in would it not come out together just the same? I imagine it would be heavier and more awkward to work with?
    Also I have watched your video as well as a couple of others. Some of the hub assemblies were stuck in there a lot harder. Would it not make sense to clean it extra good and perhaps apply some no seize where it goes in?
    Thank you, Cheers Ross

    • @south_coast
      @south_coast  4 месяца назад +1

      As long as you can get the whole assembly into and out of your press, I think it would work. It would be hard to manage by yourself I would think. Let me know how it goes, I’m sure this won’t be my last time swapping u-joints.

    I saw your zerk fitting was on the axle side instead of the wheel side. Does that matter? Changing mine now and the zerk hits the yoke first if I rotate it all the way that direction. Dont want to snap the zerk off the first time I take a right turn.

    • @south_coast
      @south_coast  4 месяца назад

      I’m going to have to be honest. I don’t think I look at the zerks with the wheel turned all the way, but I have t had any issues so far with mine.

    • @AnthonyHardman
      @AnthonyHardman 4 месяца назад

      @@south_coast Thanks. Looks like the zerk will hit first no matter which way it's installed so something else in the steering system must be the limiting factor that prevents that.

    Great video, exactly what I’m up against! Three questions for you did you need to work on a wheel bearings? And did you consider replacing the axle seals? If so, how do they get to get to? Thank you, Mike.

    • @south_coast
      @south_coast  5 месяцев назад

      I thought about it, but from what I figured they would have to be swapped out from the inside, so I decided against it. No issues so far.

    i have a question i tried to put my axle back in and the gear in the shaft is kinda down from where it should be keeping the axle from going in all the way. Any tricks to get it all the way in

    • @south_coast
      @south_coast  Год назад +1

      It is a little tricky to get it back in there. I had to sort of leverage it in by pushing the outer end of the axle shaft down to get the other end to go up and into the center carrier. Basically use it like a see-saw while rotating it slightly to get the splines to line up.

  • @taylormade2449

    Have a question my hub still spins with the other side still on the ground what does that mean

    • @south_coast
      @south_coast  Год назад +1

      It means your differential is unlocked and you don't have 4-wheel drive engaged. If you engage 4-wheel drive it shouldn't spin with the other wheel on the ground.

      Cool. I don’t have anything that can press the new caps in while the axles are still in the truck. It is easy enough to pull them out and use the shop press.
