Compliments the Rotel Michi x5 series 2 with the Technics 1210 G and Marantz SA10 CD player with the right cables through out hard to beat at a reasonable price
Hello Rodolfo, thanks for your question. Both speakers are great, and we sell both, but in the listening experience it will come down to your preferences. Feel free to reach out to us and we'll continue the conversation: ask@gramophone.com
This is the one B&W speaker (in my price range) I might upgrade to from my 705-S3s. Might I do away with my sub with this 804 D4? That walnut is nice. Oh, finding a place to actually hear these in person is not easy. -I’m also considering a new amp, maybe AGD? Would these, or any B&W pair well?
Hello Dean, 705 S3 is a fine bookshelf. But if you can handle the physical space of the 804, it does add both bottom end and lower midrange benefits vs the 705. You may want to keep your sub if it's a quality one, as virtually any tower speaker can also benefit from a properly dialed in sub. You may not need it though, as 804's have very good bottom end. If you're anywhere near Maryland, we'd love to play them for you: ask@gramophone.com
I'm aware that BW and Spendor are kind of bright and weak on bass, but great midrange. I'm more of a Wharfedale fan. Though the 804D4 is a handsome speaker.
Hi Eduardo, we aren't a Spendor dealer, but we can attest that the 804 D4 is a very bass-capable speaker. Bring some music with high energy bass to a local dealer and take a listen!
Enjoy them, Gregg - the 804 D4 being the most affordable true 3 way speaker in the 800 Series is a great value. Play them often and LOUD, and let us know in a couple weeks how you are liking them
For a two way bookshelf it is among the best, but all the towers are three way and the 805 is two way, and generally speaking a three way speaker is going to have a better midrange, the new suspension is just better icing on the cake if you will.
It’s depends on quite a few variables I love my 805 D4 I also value bookshelves and feel that the situation properly system, they can match a floor standing system I will not upgrade from what I have myself to a floor stand speaker. In regards to your question it depends on your current size. It depends on how many speakers you're running are you gonna be upgrading your room to bigger room in the future? If you are going to have a bigger room in the future a floor stander is more of great friendly, bigger size if you were running multiple speakers throughout your room, they can also feel just fine bottom line, and would not upgrade my 805 d4 for a floor standing model I run 2 asw500 subs do a fine job 805 d4 front 805 d3 surrounds epic soundstage running multi channel sound and properly measuring the distance and leveling the sound
Well My set of 804's just reached my dealer....Now I have to wait til next week for them to arrive! Got mine in Rosenut!
What a great review ! I learned a lot there. Liked and subscribed 👍👍

How are your 804d4 speakers? Are they bright sounding at all?

Agreed Hope - that would be a terrific system
Very good information. What would be your recommendation for a McIntosh MA9000: 804 D4 or Sonus Faber Maxima Amator?

Just purchased a pair

Nice
Does the fact that the 805 D4 doesn’t have the biomimetic suspension mean the midrange is interior?

@@GramophoneMD I have the 805 d4 and feel no weakness in them. I have them paired with older asw500 subwoofers and it sounds epic
@Steven OConnor would you choose 804d4 or 805d4 with subs for left and right in home theater mostly and also music?

804d4 has two 6 and a half inch bass drivers..not six inches.
Hello Amir, yes, you are right - specifically they are 6 1/2 inch drivers not 6". Sometimes we speak in short-hand or rounding up or down
@GramophoneMD hehe. You know how much difference half an inch makes in woofers? 😄
