    Chris, one important thing to mention when using any clay bar is that if you happen to accidentally drop the clay bar onto the floor then discard it. The clay bar will have almost certainly picked up grit or other contaminants from the floor. If you try and use this again you stand a good chance of the grit etc scratching the paint. I use a clay bar on my cars, you tend to find that the horizontal surfaces (particularly the bonnet) harbour the most ‘contaminants’ for the clay bar to remove. I also soak the clay bar in warm water prior to use as it makes it slightly more pliable. In practice I find that Poorboy’s clay lube does an excellent job when using a clay bar.

      Very good point about dropping the clay bar, I thought about that and just forgot to mention it. I will mention that in an upcoming Coffee and Comments, thanks! I have never tried the warm water soak, that's another good tip.

    Very, very good explanation! Couldn't have said it better. I've detailed cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and Griots products are very good. Their professional line of products are awesome too. I personally use blue Clay Magic clay bars, but any clay bar works pretty well. The only recommendations I can make are, if your bike or car has been neglected for a period of time, do a strip wash to remove any waxes or old sealants on the paint. Then do a iron remover spray to remove embedded iron in clearcoat. Then clay the paint as you've demonstrated. Use a pre-paint wipe down to remove any residual oils and put on a good wax. I hope everyone follows your clay bar video, you are spot on. Great video buddy.

    Good details. I agree about the quality of their products. Tip, if any brand of detailer streaks spray it onto your towel instead of your paint. If you know there is something like bird poop use a scooping motion with your towel on your 1st pass. Flip to a clean section after. Before using a clay bar consider using an iron remover. There are many brands. They remove metal contaminates. That way you are not rubbing the metal into your paint. I prefer using artificial clay. It's a pad that can be rinsed off if dropped or as you use it. If you drop a clay bar throw it away. You can use up any old detailer as a clay lubricant.

      Jim, have you had any issues with iron remover on the matte black plastic parts?

    Thanks, Chris. This series, and this episode in particular, continues to be very informative for me. I own a black and dark gray (and ceramic coated) 2020 Goldwing that unfortunately features light swirls on the trunk after only one wash! Now I know why and what to do to eliminate them and keep them from coming back.

      Earl, after you use a clay bar to remove contaminants, you can remove swirl marks using the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Polish and Wax amzn.to/2Odw5Yb

    I have been used Eagle one. I don't use the clay bar I use a mit Which Is excellent as long as you do not apply heavy pressure .T h e Shine that you get Is amazing And it smells nice. I have like 2 or 3 different products quick detail ,wax, and I believe there is one more it does not show up build up like Lanka wires. It may that be slippery But the shine Stay On Glassy.

    I have a 2010 Goldwing. Nebulous Black Metallic. I thought the paint color was molded. I didn’t know they painted it that color and used a clear coat. I didn’t think they would do that with the materials being plastic. I’m going to purchase the Griot’s Garage stuff and see how much shine I can put in the paint. I have a Harley as well that is the Vivid Black color. It has a lot of swirl marks. I think I’ll try the clay bar, polish, and the the ceramic detailer in it. Thanks for the info Cruiseman.

      Clay bar will remove any contaminants, but you will need to polish to take out the swirl marks.

    Thanks for getting to the clay bar episode, most informative. I do have some matte on my spyder, so to avoid getting the speed shine on matte, I'm thinking it's OK to spray the speed shine directly on the micro fiber and then apply to the painted surface before clay barring. Am I good with that?

    "Clay will removing existing wax and may leave tiny holes where contaminants have been removed. They must be sealed in order to protect the paint from corrosion." So, claying does remove wax and should therefore be re-waxed afterwards."

    • @kimnewling5728
      @kimnewling5728 3 года назад +1

      I would recommend strip washing your bike and get all the waxes and sealants off your clearcoat. I would then clay bar bike, and put on a fresh coat of wax or sealant. You will be amazed how much your paint will "pop" when all the contamination is off your clearcoat.

    How often do you clay bar your bike

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  3 года назад +1

      I do mine about every 8 to 12 months, but it depends on how you ride and how your bike is exposed to the elements.
