Your website and price transparency is amazing. I wish there were HVAC companies like yours in my area.
I recently had to replace my heating and AC unit. I needed a 2 ton 16 seer unit. I had 5 contractors come to my home and I got prices from 5700 to 14,000 dollars. Naturally people would go with the 5700 system but this contractor was hard to contact so I said if they are this hard to contact then if something is wrong with the system then I could not get in contact with them. Bottom line the cheapest price may not always be the best price.
I'd say the cheapest price is almost always NOT the best price and there are usually reasons for them being cheap. Low quality and substandard work, or they know they won't stand behind it, and/or they have a poor reputation and must low-ball a quote just to get any work at all.
@@highlanderknight yep you are correct
That is my logic as well.
Doesn't matter in my case. I couldn't afford either of them so I'd have to go with window units. They have literally priced themselves out of most people's budgets. 5k is the most I will ever spend on something like this. Anything more is either highway robbery or simply something that is no longer attainable or reasonable.
Hahaha 15k?? They want double that one year later...
This guy makes a good point... Make sure you get multiple quotes, before you make the decision... Good advice no matter what you buying...
Most HVAC systems just don’t last anymore and the installation of the unit is as important as the brand you purchase
You’re lucky to get 20 years out of a system these days. This was a quote from an HVAC technician
My house is only 5 years old. Nothing but problems on 2 units. Ome leaked out the refrigerant. Just passed the 5 year warranty.
Just received one quote today for two units in a 3,200 SF home with mid line quality Lennox. The first choice was $62,000 down to $39,000 for the basic two stage gas furnace and 16 SEER AC units, a 2 & 4 ton units. A bit obscene. Needless to say, will be taking more bids. I think that a lot of HVAC companies look at certain addresses and add the "millionaire" charge.
😳
They are charging what they think they can get out of you. Duh.
Yup
I just got a quote for a new system in Philadelphia at 10k 9400k 7500k
Tell them to go kick rocks and find someone where you wont have to pay more than 10k for a system.
Thank you for pulling back the curtain on A/C products!
Upgraded to a Lennox heat pump 6 years ago. Thought it was top of the line. Already have paid over 20% of the original cost in repairs, that, of course, were not covered by the warranty.
Class action lawsuit filed against Lenox
I have also had a lot of problems with the Lennox air conditioner installed thru Costco
Lennox broke in early summer for 3rd time in 4yrs, it's coming out. Shopping
Lennox is junk came with a new home...never will buy one of them.
Hey man, I really like your vids and appreciate the info. I do have one criticism... Your sound is quite a bit low. I have my speakers set to high and it's still a challenge to hear you. The quality is great, but the sound is just low.
I think more and more people are considering installing hvac themselves. A gas furnace appears to be a pretty easy installation if you are reasonably handy. AC’s are doable with more skill and a willingness to buy about a grand worth of tools, from what I can tell. And if you’re a real estate investor (I’m looking at replacing up to 4 hvac systems in the next few years) it seems to be a no brainer to take the time to learn these skills.
Agreed, plus if you do it yourself it will be done with care. Some of the HVAC people out there today are straight up hacks. I have started doing my own repairs, it ain't that hard.
Great video. As a single woman, I appreciate the guidance you give. Thanks
They are *all crooks
Came for the pricing intel. Stayed for the "sponsor". Love it.
I have worked on automotive a/c before so I understand how it works. I bought a house 3 years ago and I have watched a lot of hvac videos. I decided to install a $300 2 ton Rheem n-coil evaporator and a $1850 2 ton Goodman condenser. The a/c didn’t cool well because the Rheem txv flowed too much refrigerant. I had to install a smaller piston to restrict the flow.
You should always instaql a system designed for each other never a Goodman I’ve installed rheem set up and great value and works great Bugget heating and cooling on line could have sold you a complete set for 3000 and install you self
@@curtisendicott5989 I don't believe you have ever installed an a/c system in your life. Any brand condenser will work with any evaporator. Goodman units are good. I see them everywhere. I spent less than $3,000.
@@blackericdenice belive what you want have s good day
@@curtisendicott5989 It's not what I believe. I have a video of my unit running.
Ok since you worked on cars and you know it all have a nice day
The whole time I was talking to the salesman, I thought, this guy used to be a used car salesman. Used all the same tactics. Started out at $26k then dropped down to $23 with rebates. 10% off for paying cash upfront. He then asks, what number were you thinking... I threw $17k at him. He had to call his manager but was able to do it. Crazy... I felt violated when he left. They sent me a quote to replace the blower capacitor for $420. A $15 part. Thanks for the honest videos
Yeah you might as well go buy a car. I will only ever pay 5k at most for a small sized system to 10k for larger units. Anything else is highway robbery.
It’s pricing like this that has driven me to doing so much DIY. But I’m fortunate. I learn things relatively easy and there is a lot of information and manufacturers training online (but read the comments - bad RUclips videos get crucified). I always pull a permit so it’s inspected. And I’m retired, so I have the time.
Or find one by WOM. Totally replaced my system and was the best money I have ever spent. They did exactly what they said they would do. Great value.
I live Northwest of Washington DC area and last week I had to replace my Goodman of 16 years my cost was 8 grand for a Carrier unit with a in wall air handler that also makes heat from my hot water tank the company I went with is presidential heating and air a carrier authorization dealer
Best strategy is ask they to break down equipment and labor pricing. They will get u the equipment price and estimate hrs and hour rate for the jobs. That is how u can get best price.
You'll never find anyone that way. None of your business what somebody makes off a project. You want those figures so you can dissect and beat them down on price.
This videos are super helpful. Can you do a video on Remi Halo lights do they really work?
How many viewers think that businesses are using "inflation" as an excuse to raise prices when they really don't have to. I suspect, human nature being what it is, many, if not most do.
Maybe not small companies but big companies sure as hell are. If inflation was hurting them so bad they wouldn't be telling their shareholders that they're having record profits. Companies can't legally lie to shareholders
Time has shown this to be completely correct
I’m confused. Do you think businesses are somehow immune to inflation?
@@Pseudify That would mean they lost or made the same amount of money. We now know that they posted record profits. Them raising prices was just taking advantage of the situation
@@Jacob-yz5cb. What do you think keeps prices in check in the first place? If businesses are all greedy as you seem to be claiming, then why wouldn’t they just keep raising their prices? I think you know the answer to that. The fact of the matter is, a business has a right to charge any amount of money they want for their products and services. Period. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it!
It's always the contractor trying to swindle the customer.
The HVAC guy I brought today wanted to charge me 7k... For a less than 1000sf home.
I have the ducts and a heating system with a fan and furnace installed etc
The Goodman unit he wants to bring costs $1,500. So his labor alone is $5,500 for about 4 hours of work.
Now I'm looking for an HVAC guy through a friend because I'm going to buy the unit by myself (through the licensed HVAC guy) then get my own electrician guy and that's it.
They will give you a load of shit why it cost so much to do their training and permits and vehicle cost I said I don’t want to buy your vehicle I just want to be comfortable
So what I want to know is how much an hour do these people charge to install a HVAC system? The cost is all added in with the price so how do we know if we are getting screwed? How can we know the true price of the system??I know they charge by where you live and the cost of the houses in your neighborhood..
Exactly. The last time I asked an HVAC company to break down the estimate into individual parts cost and labor hours all they could tell me was, "Well we go by the book"
I don't have the book you dummies! That's why I'm asking for a complete breakdown! 🙄
Also, a lot of us are looking for info on a mini-split system. Do you work on those? Any info you can share? Thanks
My two family house was built in 1962. Took 9 years for the owner to get central air units in both floors. Both handlers are the original from 1971. Both condensers were changed in late 90's. All still function well today.
The most I have gotten from a HVAC unit over the last 17yrs is 7 to 8 years before either the outside unit or inside unit had to be replaced
I work for an HVAC company and thanks for first pointing out the equipment price increases.
As far as contractor pricing, there are some that will try to go the salesman, financing pricing route, but not most in my area (we don't).
Quotes over the phone can't be trusted if given at all, especially if the company hasn't been to your house. They have zero idea of how well or how poorly your previous system was installed, if your ductwork is adequate or if you cheaped out before. Even if your current system was sized right.
For pricing, just ask, if someone is cheap, why? Is it because they need the work because they don't have much because of a poor reputation? Are they super expensive because they are putting you in the front of the line ahead other installs that have been waiting? Also in my area there is a severe shortage of HVAC workers for most companies, meaning the workers in general have higher labor costs to retain them (and as a result you may have a backlog of installations).
Those are just a few things to think about. Just be smart about your quotes, and remember thare are valid reasons for some prices and in other cases somewhat greedy ones.
I have had 4 estimates in Phila. I have two 53 yr old furnaces. No AC. All 4 estimates were different, different equipment, different tonnage, price from 12,000 to 270000
I'm in Philadelphia myself I'm in the market for a new hvac system the highest price I've got was 15k 25k but I'm working with a co. Right now that's given me 3 quotes 10k 9400k 7500k can you lmk Ty
Smh that’s tooo mich

Great info, thanks. Checked your price list and saw it is from end of 2022, I expect things are a bit pricier now. Also, just had a strange experience with a sales rep. I signed with a digital signature onto his Ipad to order a split system. After a day or so, I had not received my copy of my order via email as promised. I contacted to get the info and was surprised to read it was for a different brand with less features that I thought I was getting. I cancelled under the three day rescission law in Florida but thought you may mention what "paperwork" customers should receive at time of ordering a system. Thank you.
Start early before your system breaks down, quotes are free, get 5-6 and then you have a running average of cost estimates.
watch for old asbestosis, my Uncle owned a heating and AC company in the Dallas area and it killed him...
Ralph E. Turner, 68, owner of Regional Heating and AC, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, after a short illness with mesothelioma.

@@freddyhollingsworth5945 Risks were known before ; kept quiet and ignored.!!!
Sorry. But everything needs to be looked at prior to giving someone a quote. Gas lines, regulator, tstat wire, duct work, return size, condensate drain...etc. Too many times a simple change out leads to way more additional work and materials that what was quoted for. If not performed properly, it will fail inspection, contractor doesn't make a profit and the homeowner will not be satisfied with the overall performance of the system. An unhappy/complaining customer will suck every bit of profit you intended to make. So, someone who gives you a quote in 30-45 minutes is not doing the customer or their company any good. To be honest, if a customer wants to rush me out the door in that time span, I'm walking away from that customer anyway. Been there, done that and they are always a problem customer after the job is complete. You pay for what you get. No need to pay too much though, nor should you go with the cheapest quote. The contractors who are usually in the middle of your received quotes will be the best option.
Well said , couldn’t agree anymore.
Spot on. I'm going through this now. I want to replace my system in the off season. I don't use the heat much here in North Texas. Someone that doesn't do a thorough check of your house, including duct work is a major red flag. The last guy I had measured every single room in my house and looked at every inch of my house.
Thank you for the advice. I had 1 quote. The man looked at my handler. I told him and showed him that I upgraded my electrical panel. He didn’t asked to see anything else. He charged me for a service call. He was in my home for 10 minutes. The next day he emailed me a quote. When I expressed how high it seemed, he said the company may finance if I qualify. My gut is saying not to trust.
I live in Dallas and just got a new Lennox 3-ton single stage AC and gas furnace for $6,300. Other companies bid the same system from $8-10k.
I had an ac guy other day say the one stage was no longer allowed hmmm. Lennox is what I have now lower end model coils last 3 years at best for this one ugh
Live in Dallas as well got a Lennox two stage 5 ton ac and gas furnance with a new return and supply vent change for 10.2k
Where I live (suburbs of Philly) every quote that I received for installing a HVAC was $13-15K. Crazy!!
It got to be cheaper than tht smh they over whooping
A 3.5 ton compressor/condenser only cost the contractor about 1500.00.
just got quoted roughly $17k for a seer 17 system. Sure wish I could pinpoint exactly what happened around 3 years ago when prices of EVERYTHING started to skyrocket.
thanks for just being honest and straight forward!!! 🤠
Contractor charged 16k. Parts were 4k . Guy and helper took 2 hours to replace system… so 6k per hour in labor
God tips. Questions: What’s the best way to ensure that I have a senior tech (versus junior tech) on the install? Are new line sets typically included in replacement quotes? Thanks.
Boo. Senior vs Junior tech? You suck. As a teacher I constantly see senior techs with bad habits that'll reduce the life of your system- not flowing nitrogen while brazing, not taking the vacuum below 500 microns, throwing shit together and saying "good enough." It's the younger guys that had to learn the most current rules and regulations so it's easiest for them to install systems to code. Plus the ones I know are usually more gung-ho
I hope you got a "senior" tech for your install
There is no need for a new lineset if the current one is in good working order. They can be cleaned out no problem.
Another great and informative video (I'm binge watching you). I've no plans on moving to Texas but if you decided to move to Ontario Canada I'd buy from your company. Cheers.
My cousin does hvac. All the hvac companies around me said for a/c installed were $5k. I got my cousin to send me a 14 seer 2 ton for $900. Most of the contractors had it at $900 just for the condenser. Makes you stop believing all these guys and there prices
Well sure your price is better, you have an in guy at an HVAC company. That's like me saying me saying the same thing about that super special deal I get on a new car from my Uncle at the dealership
@@highlanderknight yah when the warehouse guy is pissed and tells you your not supposed to know the real price of this stuff so we the hvac can get away with knowing the real price

Well I guess if enough people go bankrupt paying for this 💩 then they will finally lower their prices to something in the four figures range instead of five figures.
I live in Portland Oregon and we’re a Daikin dealer we’re selling systems around 7,500-8,000
When you say you sell systems, do you mean furnace, AC condenser, AC coil, lineset, thermostat and installation costs for that price? If so, is that a single stage system and what Seer rating are you stating in that price range? I think Daikin is a great brand and 12-year warranty is great, but we cannot sell systems for that price here in Denver. Base model or certain items not being included all effect the price.
This guy can do it for $1995. No questions asked. Lol
Just got a quote of $27,976 for a American Standard Gold 4 ton, 2 stage, 16 seer, 8.1 HSPF2 heat pump, with new evap coil, and 4 ton 80K BTU 2 stage propane furnace replacements... I.e. everything in... just replace the existing systems. Unreal!!
That's a lot. We're having a 20 SEER variable speed 3 ton unit and 80k 2 stage gas furnace installed for $13,000.
This was a great video. You helped answer a lot of my questions and now I feel more confident about my hvac shopping experience and the price point.
I got installed a 96 Gas furnace 3. ton Amana all for 5200 last fall. 1800 SF home. That company was fair.
Im sorry i just cant see these kind of prices for sheetmetal, coils, motor and a fan. Theres no way i can afford 6 grand for an ac unit being a disabled vet on a fixed budget. I better hope i nevrf have to replace it or im in trouble.
VERY VERY HELPFUL ON A RANGE OF TOPICS THANKS
How do you compare quotes that have different quality brands involved? Like a Tempstar versus a Trane?
How do you know if your ducts need to be replaced?
We were told that we were going to pay $13 grand for a York and almost $10 grand for a Goodman!!! I'm not mentioning contractor names! I'm not crazy when I say a Goodman costs around $3,300-3,999 dollars, and a York is around $4-6,000 dollars! When we said no, the project manager looked like he had the wind taken out of him!! 😲😅 BBB is a great place to check out reviews, literally.
A company with good word of mouth referrals wouldn’t ever need to promote pricing online without even seeing the job. You have no idea what the job needs without looking at it.
Yeah I couldn't have said it better myself. Well done Bob. Also there is no such thing as a good place on line for reviews. BBB is known for white washing reviews years ago by those paying for an A+ rating. People largely do not want to be tracked which would be required for a review to be considered *real* paying for reviews is a conflict of interest, but that doesn't stop many from doing it. The old advice of the time? *If it sounds to good to be true it probably is* The best guide is your own, find a contractor who can fix your AC system avoid shiny objects that lead you to place you're best not to go. HVAC is only going to be more complicated in a few short years and then again in 2035 / 2036 if the USA is to stay on target set by the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
I wish I could get any service person or estimator to show up within an HOUR of a given time, much less right on time. Most operate anywhere within a 3 or 4 hour window.

I really don't know how young families deal with the cost of new HVAC equipment.
2023 will hit SEER2 and 2024 you will see the "new" A2L refrigerants to deal with that as well. In addition supply chain issues have created a warped supply/demand challenge that has not been around for decades......
I guess this prices are all over i got qute today to replace outside condenser unit for 1800 and if inside home coils needs to be replaced then it will all out the door cost ve $2700 thats not bad. Lowes selling 2ton unit for $1200 so it is reasonable to be under $2k (for outsidr unit)to charge from service company.

I have gotten 6 quotes for a 2 ton 15.5 SEER HSP 8.2 single stage Heatpump from anywhere $7,500 to $12,000 (installed for 6 - 8hrs of labor) in the Orlando area despite the actual AC (Condenser/Air handler/ 50' copper line/10kw heat strip/programable themo) only costing $3,200 - 3,800. Toyota had that scam of 0% for 5yrs but they tack on an extra $2,500 - 3,000 on to the price (even with my 820 credit); I just went with my PenFed CU 1.49% for 3yrs...cost me an extra $550 over that time frame back in 2018.
the equipment may cost 3800.00 dollars but there are another 3-400 dollars in misc parts needed to install a system plus tax. then you have to pay the install crew they dont come cheap. then if you have an office with a staff to answer phones and do the books you have to pay them. the over head to run a company. some money to advertise. insurance gas ect. oh yea you might wanna make a profit too. so yea thats why systems cost so much now.

BEWARE OF GOODMAN AC UNITS! I live in the Phoenix area and Goodman units rarely last over 12 years..The Trane units here can last between 15-20 years....You get what you pay for.
Its all about the install. There's little difference in reliability. I've installed everything from trane to goodman to armstrong to concord. Never have any problems from any of them. A poor install will do in any system no matter the brand. I've got many 10+ year old goodmans out there that I maintenance that have had nothing but capacitors changed. I've also got a lot of tranes that have been problem units due to poor install practices. All that just to say that your system is as good as your installer. (BTW I'm a comercial hvac tech with a goodman in my own home. 9 years with no work aside from regular maintenance).
I live in Pensacola. My 2 ton Goodman AC was installed in 2010 and is still blowing cold. Quietly.
I'd like a Goodman to replace my Lennox that's only 8 years old...both units the evaporator coils leak after every 2 years. Heard new Goodmans also leak now. Keep those old units as long as you can...new units now are way worse it seems.
Goodman is way better since daikin bought them 6 years ago
I've had a Goodman 23 years. Still going strong. It may be older than that because it was already here when I bought the house.
What manufacture you guys installing? More in likely, Goodman. Hopefully not York. And, if you guys are doing a lot of back to back installs, where you guy have good install crews, you guys can go a little lower and get some better pricing on equipment

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF BUYING AC EQUIPMENT off the internet or thru local ads ? ...... I notice several people selling AC equipment on the internet ....... some ads say they have several units that were rebuilt or for some other reason they how have units that were purchased in bulk for a contractor and didn't use
Just fyi, took a look at your web site and found an error in the repair section. Instead of Capacitor it says Compositor.
So $17.5 charge was a complete hosed job for a 4 ton 15 seer.
I don’t know about where you are doing business, but where I live it is a requirement to have an accurate heat load calculation performed on the home to ensure proper sizing of the HVAC system, which is submitted when the job permit is applied for. You cannot perform an accurate heat load calculation on home if you are not physically in the home. And also, if a contractor is drastically cheaper than others, there is a reason they are cheap. Maybe they are a one man show, who will probably be out of business in a year or two, or they are doing low quality installations and cutting corners in the process, or they pay their workers very low wages so they can charge less for their installations, the list goes on and on. You should never ever go with the cheapest or the most expensive contractor. A middle ground option is the best option.
Are you in out around Houston? If not, can you recommend a good company here?
What system goes best w/ a 70% solar panel solution?
So my house doesn't have central air. So I'm basically screwed to get central ac and ducts installed 😢 I have an older home
FIX sound
If it is a contractor that advertises 24/7 on local TV and radio and has a Decal covered clown van, be prepared to get fleeced. You are paying for a very large advertising bill as well as a salesperson's commission right out of the gate. In many cases they are geared towards selling 2 or 3 HVAC brands. So the brand they sell might not be the most reliable equipment your house needs, it is the most reliable equipment for their profit margin.
It takes patience and research, but try the locally owned family business HVAC companies. These folks typically have spent 10 to 20 years in the industry perfecting their craft before opening up their own shop. The owner typically does the sales to avoid commission costs, thus passing the savings onto the homeowner. They rely on word of mouth and customer service to guarantee repeat business via annual maintenance service.
Good information here
So it's against FL law to create a bid document without visiting the job site. I would be willing to bet it is in Texas as well.
Still great content as always
I appreciate that!
I have a 30-year-old Rheem Furnace/air-conditioning split system, it is operational. I want to get it replaced while there is no urgency hopefully to save cost. Here is my dilemma. I want to buy my new hvac system thru Home Depot they will deliver the new unit to the store or to my home. However, when I contact a HVAC business, they seem uninterested in taking the installation work. Apparently not enough Windfall profit. I simply want a change out of the old unit for the new one. Everything is already in place. Your thoughts on what the problem might be? Btw, I would support a full inspection in case any unseen cost issues arise.
Will have to hire a small time guy/company. Reputable companies offer warranties on equipment and labor through them at no cost so they won't take that liability
Considering 2%~3% average inflation rate and 5%+ yield from ETF, that's not that bad.
Definitely swindle . They made my neighbor get a whole new system 5500 bucks for a 2 ton system when her 7 year old system only needed a run capacitor.
i got an ac guy that's quoting me $19,000 and his lowest option is about $9500 for a split ac unit. he was really pushy in hard selling his shit.
that'll be the last time i do bidness with his company

Good info. I was quoted $7K in 2018 but opted for repair - big mistake as the system has now failed and current quotes $10K. Thanks, federal gov, not enough to tax the hell out me, must also force higher prices due to cult of climate change.
Climate change is REAL! And it is going to cost most of us more money, llke for home insurance. I am a retired atmospheric physicist who worked for NASA.
What people need to do is refuse to pay high prices and eventualy the prices will go down or the contractors will go out of business.
You mentioned your company can install the unit somebody can install for $20,000, and you can install it for $7,500. But your website linked here has your most expensive AC unit, a 5 ton unit, for $4,751. Something's wrong here.
The labor cost would then make it 7500

the last one though you need a friend or fam member or neighbor to come save you.
I don't take people serious unless they allow me to come to their house. I also want to see what kind of people they are and if I sense anything off I leave. I also need to see if they have aif other problems with the house. Home owners don't know much usually about any of this.
This is exactly why I started my own small company because there is no value in the tradesmen anymore. Don’t under sell yourself or your employees.
Undersell? Don't bankrupt your customers either or they'll come back with pitchforks trying to take you down. The internet has become a warzone in that regard.

Salesman and working off commission is what’s what’s wrong with the construction trade today. They are bad as car salesman!
It is very frustrating why is your volume so low. Pump up the volume then I will subscribe.
This video is a hidden gem. 💪💯🔥
If they keep raising prices they better start making products that last longer than 15-20 years!
My mobile home was built in 2000 and I'm still using the original ac unit. Can the new ones last that long??
How can you live with yourself for charging $150 Aa pound for R22 freon. Just a way to sell new systems
Forget manual j lol, most systems in USA are either undersized or oversized.
Solid
I'm enjoying your videos. I highly recommend that you lose the swivel chair.
I actually am just standing in this video ...
