Campbell liked this concept Anvil covers. I have not read it in a loong time! For a more serious take on this subject, try Poul Anderson's very good "The Helping Hand", Astounding May 1950.
It is in "Great Stories of Space Travel" by Groff Conklin, too.

I will look for that Joe, thanks for the recommendation.

Humanities greatest defense against invasion. Debt.

Exactly, as a species we should keep this in our back pocket, just in case.

Sounds interesting; one of the concept types that made for a lot of early SF. Sadly quite a few did not really have the writing experience to completely bring the story home.
Blum next? Now that is surprising....

Have you read Blum? Any insight on the next one?

@@sfwordsofwonder I... have read a Blum... it was a long time ago and all I remember is mild confusion (I no longer own any). A bit like I could not quite decide what I was reading. Anyway, I do look forward to seeing what you think of it.

There were some laugh out loud parts but overall dragged. I think you could have had fun with this one.

This one has its moments, the next one sounds interesting 🤔.

Sounds a bit like a WB looney tunes cartoon.
Have I mentioned before that I like that you are incorporating your wife into your hobby, without really changing your format? I think it's great that you two work together on this, doubly so that she checks Goodreads so that she's not handing you zingers.
    She sounds swell.

It's fun for both of us and glad you like it too. Adds the 'sort of random' factor.

The concept sounds hilarious, too bad the execution was poor!
Also in the year 3485 we had Planck’s Maxim of Solar Pax. It states that any civilization advanced enough for interstellar travel is advanced enough to not engage in war. The corollary to this is the concept of Peace As Technology, where the absence of destructive internecine conflict is a necessary condition for advancing enough to develop interstellar flight.
All this to say that all these tales of far-future conquests truly are fiction.

The concept was hilarious and inventive but failed to keep my attention.

Anvil's just expanded Pandora. It does drag. It goes in the good-enough pile, keep only as reference in your library? I would have read just on cover.

Agreed, I think it's worth keeping for the cover and conversation starter.

Totally great cover, I'll be keeping it for that.
