The World Reacts To Total Solar Eclipse

US SOLAR ECLIPSE
Day turned into night this morning as parts of the USA, Canada and Mexico caught a glimpse of a rare total solar eclipse. A total solar eclipse happens when things line up just right for the moon to completely cover the face of the sun, casting a ginormous shadow on the earth, and creating this "halo" in the sky that's pretty cool to look at, as long as you're protecting your eyes! While eclipses like this one happen every 18 months or so, they're usually pretty hard to spot because they normally cross over the ocean. But this one passed over loads of populated areas, stretching 6,400 kilometres and lasting more than 4 minutes. Whether it was on the ground or up in the air, millions of people did whatever they could to catch a glimpse, and celebrate the moment!
WINX FOAL
The first foal of champion racehorse Winx has sold for a world record amount. Yep, 10 million dollars, that's how much Debbie Kepitis bought this horse for. Her mum Winx won a world record 33 races in a row, and Ms Kepitis says this filly will have the same trainer as Winx, so hopefully it wins some races too
EID AL-FITR
Millions of Muslims around the world are getting ready to celebrate Eid! It's a 3 day festival that marks the end of Ramadan and Wren caught up with some kids to tell us all about it. Yep, over the past few weeks, Muslims around the world have been fasting from sunrise to sunset for the holy month of Ramadan. But the last day of Ramadan for 2024 is today, which means it's nearly time for Eid al-Fitr. Each year, people around the world prepare for Eid al-Fitr in many different ways. Thousands of Muslims in Mecca gathered for prayer. These people in Egypt have been preparing sweet treats. And shopping centers and markets in Pakistan's largest city of Karachi have been filled with people looking to purchase new clothes, sandals, bangles and jewelry.
DRESSED LIKE THE SUN
First up to hundreds of people who've flocked to Niagara Falls in Canada, for the solar eclipse, of course. But also to break the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as the sun. All up, 309 people took part, breaking the previous record of 287.
SWAN PARADE
Now to the Canadian town of Stratford, where these swans are being guided through the streets for the city's annual swan parade. They've just spent the last few months down at the towns winter quarters, but now that it's a bit warmer, they're off to live in the river again.
ETNA RINGS
And finally, to Mt Etna in Italy, which has been puffing out these peculiar smoke rings! It's a rare, natural phenomenon that volcanologists say happens when hot vapour from the volcano hits cold air just right. Mt Etna is the most active volcano in Europe and has now been dubbed by locals the "Lady of the Rings".
