I actually love the “retro” inserts in Extended, that’s why I’ve been a fan of extended so far in its life. The 90’s designs remind me of when I was a kid collecting, before I quit and came back to the hobby from 00-06
Agreed. I stopped collecting because of too much product. Loved collecting Young Guns and Canvas, have every set from 05-06 to 21-22. Then there was more with extended, more YGs and canvas, black canvas, and retro Young guns. I decided it was getting too much and more difficult to collect so I stopped with those sets.
Personally, I wish they would have the retro inserts as stand alone products like the 1990s. Keep the theme of the variant # too on all the parallels. Imagine if SPX Force had 4 superstars on one card (like the football sets) and autographed...

My intention was to have fun and pull a bunch of interesting versions of rookie cars at affordable price. The Rockbottom price of $120 a box and I had a lot of fun. I love those late 90s insert designs and especially the early 90s hockey heroes insert cards updated with acetate, those are just killer. I don’t care that they don’t hold a lot of secondary market value, they’re great. I had a lot of pretty good luck with my case definitely beating the odds even without any big polls. extended is probably one of my favorite products for flagship because you have a chance at getting a little bit of everybody in one product rather than breaking it up over a few different ones.
45 K Bedards graded and people are still acting like its going to be worth anything. Personally I like that they printed the hell out of it, makes rips cheaper! Thanks for the vid Zeeree.
I’ve bought 4 series 2 hobby boxes trying to chase a Bedard Young Guns. Today I buy 1 box of extended series and finally pull Bedard’s Young Guns Canvas 😅😅😅. I was speechless. Always appreciate your videos ZeeRee 😊
Opened 2 boxes, pulled a silver outburst young guns and a clear cut young guns, along with 4 different fantilli cards including his young guns. I missed ripping hockey wax but that’s about the best 2 boxes you could hope for so I think I personally won’t be opening anymore extended until the price drops
I got pretty lucky with my box -- base YGs for me were Nemec, Savoie, Garand and Laberge, pulled the 08-09 retro for Carlsson and Knies, and then pulled the Bedard canvas YG, and a canvas YG black and white for Solovyov. Pretty happy with that.
Didn't realize the Bedard Canvas YG wasn't 1 per Case wow. Kid and I got lucky 3 boxes of extended and we got Bedard YG Canvas, Special Forces, and 1st Draft. Then Leo, Knies and Potras Retro YG. FYI, ECHL no longer stand for East Coast Hockey League. Used to, but when they adsorbed the CHL (Central Hockey League) and extended out west, they just are called ECHL for some reason. Only know this due to being a KC Mavs fan and a smidge of research. Love that Verhaeghe has won his second Cup (he is a former Mavs player!!)
May be the old man in me, but damn I miss the days when you could get a fair priced box, almost complete a base set from 1 or 2 boxes and get a few awesome inserts …. Sigh
The thing with upper deck is if they make new inserts you get things like teachers pet, deep roots and PCs. I prefer the retros, obviously they just need to upgrade their new inserts, cant rehash the old ones forever.
That's what happens in modern era where you train kids to be prodigies at sports from a very young age and that's all they do. No personality. No style.

As a collector since the mid 90s, I would much rather have these retro inserts than most other inserts of any set in recent years.

Too many inserts and special cards, it is hard to keep up. I also think there is too much product being released.
I’ve liked how Topps will create a lower limit of product made for series 2 and update series to increase the quality, upper deck is just greedy
