In this video I break a box of the new 2023-24 Upper Deck Extended Series Hockey Hobby. And I provide all the odds for the #ConnorBedard cards! This box was JUICED.

GENERAL GIVEAWAY: Every 100 subscribers I will give away either:
1. The entire contents of a previous box break;

Extended has out all star cards in every set. All those guys already had cards in the previous 2 series
Yes, they are variants/alts of their UDS1/2 base card, to "extend" the checklist to 700 cards. I would prefer even more depth players and legends, like OPC. The question is: How are we supposed to identify the All-Star Skills Photo Variations cards which are 1-in-288?
@@Fultoncards but they’re still common base, they’re not inserts or “variations”. And when players were in the skills competition, they wore jerseys with a skills patch on them.
@@Fultoncards the players wore their regular team jerseys with a skills patch during the skills competition. I would look for the patch on their jerseys. Also, the skills that year had a lot of outdoor events, so I would assume a lot of them would be pictures from those
Matt, of course. I don't mean a variant card in geeky technical parlance. I meant another base card for the same player in a variant jersey. I was just wondering with so many all-stars in the base set how any child could identify if he hit one of the actual rare Skills photo variations. Half the generic base are helmet-less. But, I think I figured it out. The actual Skills variants are in their normal NHL team jerseys, not the all-star game ones.
@@Fultoncards the photo variants say it in small print on the reverse.
Not many channels are sophisticated enough to play Miles Davis while open hockey card packs.

I bought a hobby box and then bought 2 blasters and my 2 blasters were far better. Got cooley base young guns and fantilli base young guns and then seeing red bedard but the gold variation.

If there was one set that I might've considered paying the Bedard tax for, it's Extended. But honestly I think the Bedard Canvas Young Guns was the nail in the coffin, I'm not paying extra for that. Though this does seem like the one product that Bedard is actually plentiful in.

The black diamond cards, 1-4 stars… 1 star is most common, 4 star is least???
Affirmative. BD has been around since 96/97. The single diamonds have always been the most common. The quads are reserved for the best rookies and biggest names. So for instance in 2007-08, Price, Kane, and Toews were quad rookies, and Orr, Gretzky, Mario, and Crosby were the quad vets/legends. Back then, in a hobby box with 120 cards, there were only three quads per box. This year, a quad is 1-in-200 packs. A single diamond is 1-in-29 packs. EDIT: Just to be clear, it's just that they misname the cards on the checklist. They don't mean first, second, third or fourth stars of the game. They mean single, dual, trip, and quad diamonds. More diamonds the better.

Double Bedard!! - too many retro cards though- rather upper deck be more inventive!!
For what it's worth, I don't buy that line of reasoning on any level. UD has dozens and dozens of products, with endless new designs. Extended is specifically their throwback insert product. That's its raison d'etre and inherent identity. Plus, retros ensure the very young new collectors learn about the history of the hobby. And, they appeal to older collectors like me, due to the nostalgia and historical references. If ppl prefer new designs, they can simply focus on other products with new designs. In an era saturated with people and products, retros will always occupy a central space in the hobby. If people are only focused on the present, I think they are missing the deeper, more sentimental aspects of why a hobby is a hobby. I personally don't get the consistent acrimony and negativity around the longer sentimental arc of the hobby, because ppl only care about monetary value. If ppl want to earn money, as opposed to lose it, they should invest in the stock market not cards. With those earnings, they can buy the new cards they like on eBay with 100% certainty. But Extended was designed to repopularize older, nostalgic cards.

I'll always love collecting. Doesn't matter whether it's the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, or now. I will always enjoy the depth and variety of the hobby. And, cards I like will always be available affordably directly on eBay.
