    This dress is such an iconic dress in film, and I LOVE a good challenge! I was drawn to this dress for its complex seaming, light fabrics and beautiful details. The pattern was about 75 different pattern pieces and I almost 30 yards of fabrics! The flounces rake up so much fabric so I had to cut very smart.
    I had recently recreated the Beauxbaton uniform and noticed that the costume designer liked a bias cut waist, with no seam at the waist line and o think that is due to wanting the girls to feel youthful as well as having a 1940’s influence. They almost reminded me of nightgowns in the mid section design. The dress was also designed to have full movement even when not moving around or having no breeze. I also think the gradient was mindful of that illusion as well.
    If you have any other suggestions of garments you’d like to see recreated, comment them and I’ll take that into consideration!

      There’s actually an article that said they made a mock of the dress in the blue, but because Emma is very warm toned, it did not suit her color at all. That’s why they made it pink. But let’s be honest, Emma could pull off anything. 😁

      one of the reasons they said they changed the dress colour was because the beauxbatons students uniforms were already a periwinkle colour and since the great hall was decorated for winter with blues and whites at the yule ball if she had worn a periwinkle dress she wouldn’t have stood out and would’ve blended in

      @amazinggrace879 3 года назад +12

      In our lives it would costly, but he is blessed to live near a fabric store that has fabric for $1.99 a yard! If this cost $75 for him to make, that’s cheap compared to what as a Seamstress or Taylor he would have to add to make a living at doing this. $50-$100 an hour, or more, on top of cost of materials, and with his attention to detail, and skill level!
      Thank God he can make his own patterns❣️
      As a professional, he could charge $1500-$2k + easy, especially as this is a movie recreation, and so much fabric❣️
      I don’t even want to know what a Vogue Pattern would cost if they have one comparable to this design.
      I hope he has or makes some connections at a modeling agency to get his work photographed on a live model.

I nearly died from liver and respiratory failure back in May 2018, but in the month or two prior I lost so much muscle tone I lost the ability to walk. Once I woke up from my delusions and hallucinations in ICU and was back in my normal (and private, as all rooms there are as it’s a specialist hospital), I hadn’t realized the same thing happened to my arms to the degree I couldn’t write and barely could feed myself. My limbs looked like planks of wood they were so flat, and my mom said I looked like I had been in a concentration camp...When I’ve been in and out of the hospital within the last year, I feel like I’ve seen a lot more people who can’t walk, and either really overweight or really thin - less in between than I usually see.

      @@houseofschenck6230 bruh as someone with some background in tech theater let me assure you that the set design and lighting designers and costume designers don't just shit out arbitrary colors for things. Do I know the reason? No. Is there a reason? Absolutely 100%. the effect that a cool color like blue has is very, very different than a color that would contrast to the dress would be. And the symbolic implications of blue as a color are also too big to ignore
      sorry I didn't mean to get so heated. It's just... I know what goes into the design of things like this and even the most minute details have in depth, well thought out reasons. I promise.

    • @terra_the_nightingale135
      @terra_the_nightingale135 3 года назад +1

      @lia_berry 🍓 he’s, even then the blue would be too much of a blend. They apparently did make the blue but made the change to pink as it stood out more. Which it did and looked awesome! Course it’s a matter of personal preference but not that deep in the end lol

    okay so I have a huge emotional attachment/connection to this dress and lemme tell you why. I've always loved the Harry Potter books and I love Hermione's character because she knows her worth, she knows she is smart and she doesnt hide it. but in the yule ball she shows her feminine, just soaking in her moment of glory, absolute queen side. and since I'm very much like her in the academic area I feel a huge connection to her. so I've always wanted to make this dress (I plan to make it for my prom dress) but I was never a good enough seamstress to do so. now that I've had more experience I think I might be able to and this is motivating me to try. and I just want to say you recreated it beautifully and you did such an amazing job. I can only hope mine will turn out half as good.

    You are wonderful, my mom was like you, this lady that become friends with my mom used to bring a huge box of beautiful women's cloths from her fancy spancy church ladies, my mom would have us 6 daughters pick out clothes from the catalogs, she would make patterns for our body shape and size. And use this material from the dresses. Blouses. And there was pants she cut down for us, not jeans. I never appreciated her until I bought a dress that I needed for a program, she worked for hours on it that night to make this dress fit me properly. Mom said next time buy material. This was harder than making a dress from scratch. My shoulders were small, my breast big, waist small, and hips , more my butt was big for my size. My 2 brother's and Dad wore western shirts , she made them also. Your videos remind me of her sewing. Love them.
