That footage looks like it could have been taken any day any time in the high street ..since teeside park opened and the council forbid the market days its gone so far down...underneath the old streets and courts leading to the docks there is underground buildings which not many know of me and my mates used to explore as kids..old fishing equipment hanging on walls frozen in time...thanks for taking the time to explore our town ...

Nice to see stockton again, I worked there in my dad’s shop when i was 14/15, in 1980.i loved it. Always had a great feel. Then we emigrated to Australia. It looks like they have really looked after the old buildings, good to see. Thanks for the vid.

My mother (or Mam) came from Stockton, and a trip to the cinema/theatre was always a highlight of family visits. I remember there being 4 cinemas in Stockton. The ABC (or The Globe, as was) on the High Street. The Essoldo? - where we saw panto each Xmas. A little one just off the top end of the High Street, called Turners. Plus a fourth, whose name I cannot recall.
This was all 50 years ago, so forgive me if my memory is fibbing to me.

To: @herbertvonzinderneuf8547 - No, your memory is quite accurate. There were two other picture houses.
At the bottom of the High Street on the corner of Yarm Lane, was, formerly The Regal Cinema/Odeon which later was rebuilt and became The Odeon Cinema, then subsequently a nightclub under various names On the corner at the intersection of Prince Regent Street and Dovecot Street was The Hippodrome ('The Flea-Pit') later renamed to, The Classic Cinema.
The Essoldo closed as a cinema in 1964 and changed over to a bingo venue. It did however keep the frontage and is now a carpet shop.

      So many cinemas.

To: @herbertvonzinderneuf8547 - You are most welcome.
Just up from The Classic was Dovecot Arts Centre which had a small 100 seat capacity 'arena' which gave selected viewings at selected times. I remember our school year watching 'Lord of the Flies' there.
The Classic was split into three smaller venues so there was an enormous choice of films to watch.
Ha, ha! Friday night's could be all-nighters when they would run five consecutive showings based around a theme, starting at 23:00 and finish 07:00 to 08:00 Saturday morning. That could be a test of endurance. Particularly if you had 'fell out of a pub' beforehand.
      Alas, all gone.

Teesside is a wonderful place 😊 I used to work in Middlesbrough for over 5 years and so I'm hoping to be able to go back and help promote the history of that area.

What an absolute Dump this has turned into, from a lovely town in the late sixty's and seventy's to what it has become now, it really has gone down hill, thanks to the Local Council and town planners.
