That solo (improvised, I assume) was just filthy. Tom's one of the best in the business, and easily one of the most underappreciated, especially when it comes to being part of a band rather than the focus of it.
@@thankyouscientist I totally get that but the solo for Son of a Serpent on the album is one of my fav guitar solos ever. Seriously it's a perfect blend of emotion and difficulty, basically a guitar player's dream! I really want to learn it bc I feel like it would be fun to play and also be a great practice tool. Cheers!
Does this song have religious connotations? Because in Jewish legend Cain is the "son of the serpent" and the lyrics "...and to bury the hole!" sounds like burying a dead body just like Cain murdering his brother. Also in the Book of Enoch there is an angel who is described as the "son of the serpent"
I went to a performing arts high school with a really diverse instrumental program, and just could never find musicians to play more technical/interesting shit. Like I'm only pushing 30, and when I see the rare instance of something unique like what you guys are doing, it makes hopeful I'll still find a group of like minded talented musicians like this to play with one day. You guys are fuckin' sick no joke.
"But I'm sure there's a place To bury the old me and start anew Tired of the things I put me through How much can I lose?" These are such powerful lyrics. This song is such an honest evocation of hitting a personal rock bottom and finding the resolve to push to something better. Thank you for this.
There was a day where one of my bosses tried saying you guys didn't make good music because "they're just showing off the fact they can play." I was just there thinking "isn't that the fucking point of making music? Expressing yourself and showing what you can do?"
Seriously this song and the whole new album has been spectacular. Very accurate to my life in recent years and thoughts ive had. Its almost like I was meant to find it, and I'm convinced it has helped me massively. I've been listening to yall almost exclusively for weeks. Cant wait to see you live someday!
Back in the day I used to do uber eats during quarantine on my bicycle while listening to Thank you scientist. I have a real job now but sometimes I miss those days.
Wow. I heard this randomly on apple music and thought it was Alien Ant Farm at first but what happened next shocked everyone. And it just kept happening. I listened to it again right after and holy cow the lyrics wrapped around my heart and strangled it. Definitely needed this! Thank you!
Listened to this album for the first time during the very first lockdown in my city. Been listening to this album ever since. This song, Anchor, Terraformer, and Swarm being my all time faves. I'm forever cherishing this album, thank you for creating such a masterpiece.
goddamn that bass, that guitar, the drums, sax and trumpet, violin and even the theremin and of course that voice, all in amazing unity, such an awesome band
I am already in love with your guys' music and then I heard this and immediately fell in love with it. ive listened to it like 20 times just today. this song is amazing and you guys are amazing. cant wait to see you guys in December when you're in my area
Thank you Thank You Scientist! I discovered you marvelous musical masters two weeks ago and from the very first listen to Teraformer I was absolutely mind blown. Since then I've committed the whole album to memory and simply can't get over just how spectacular it is. As a saxophonist and a huge prog metal fan this is everything I could ever want in an album. You guys are my new number 1. Again, thank you so much for your beautiful work.
This is simply splendid. Just discovered the band and the Terraformer album which I am picking my way through now. Slow progress as I have to keep listening to each track over and over.
If this live version ended with the same backing vocals as the studio version it would win me over. Studio's Son of a Serpent's ending is fuckin' killer with the backing
This song was probably my favorite for a while. I love every album you guys have put out. I Love Stranger Heads Prevail for its prog rock, and I love Maps of Non-Existent Places for its hard rock, but man Terraformer is just a beautiful mix of both. i really love what you guys do and im a huge fan of the music. I've never seen any band do what you guys do, and i want you to know the music you make is outstanding on a whole other level. Cant wait for the albums to come in the near future!
If you ever do a tour across the Midwest, maybe come somewhere close to Colorado? My friend told me you all had a new album out because I had bought the other two and the EP. This track was the first that played when I followed my friend's link for Spotify. This track literally had me in tears because things have been difficult: "Don't know why I feel so low..." That lyric hit really hard partially because I have diabetes and I'm not saying that diabetes and depression are best friends, but I am saying that diabetes doesn't mind inviting depression over even though it knows I don't have the room to entertain. Low sugar; feeling low -- they kind of become synonymous, and it's not like the USA does anything to help people who are struggling (side note: props for putting out Life of Vermin). Rambling, I know, but I love the new album because it contrasts nicely with the darker elements in Stranger Heads Prevail and confronts struggle while still finding joy where it can. I love your work. This comment may mean little to others, but I appreciate the opportunity to say something, and I hope you keep writing and playing new stuff and just thank you for doing the things.
this is absolutely fantastic, every song i hear of yours is unique, passionate and mastered beautifully. i couldnt imagine balancing all those different tracks to create such unique tones, not to mention the time you play in. tool can eat their hearts out, this is fuckin righteous
I still don't understand how you manage to make two very hard to comprehend music so accessible, truly one of music industry's best kept secret (tho it shouldn't be)
I always love seeing Joe's shirts! After Pun Pun and Cat Bus, looking forward to seeing what the next anime/manga one is haha. Thank you for the video, it's a fantastic performance - looking forward to the next time you hit Western Canada =D
Totale Könner ihres Faches, alles Virtuosen in dieser Band. Amazing, mindblowing. Die Synchronisierung des Sängers mit dem Gehörten könnte besser sein. Unterm Strich: großartige Musiker, denen es wohl nicht um das Kommerzielle geht.
Such a great solo, although there are couple of accents in the album version that I'm missing in this version. So incredibly effortless looking though. So glad to hear that they got a new frontman. I got into this band just after Sal decided to leave and they cancelled their tour, so I thought I may never get to see them live. Can't wait for them to tour again.
I've only ever listened to your music on soundcloud and always thought the vocalist was a woman. I didn't believe the Wiki page of the band when there wasn't a woman on there, but I stand corrected and impressed by the vocals.
Oh hell, Such great song ! The only band that can make a really virtuous song nowdays... No idea of wich magic you guys make to play in a perfect way like that but it works dksksksks. And sal has great voice a great voice control ! I wonder how high can he gets with a voice like that ? Anyways i wish the best for all of you guys
Just found you guys, absolutely wowed. I’ve been a long time prog and metal guy, but lately, heavy does not have much appeal, and this is a beautiful pivot for me. And my goodness, the lyrics are so wonderfully growth based, and exactly what I’m looking for in my next phase. Amazing job gents, a new fanatic is born.
This is my favorite band of all time. I love you guys. You guys are my biggest musical influence. Hopefully one day I can write songs as good as you guys can. Listening to Tom's guitar playing has inspired me to practice more and become a better guitar player. Seeing you guys at motorco was the best concert I've ever been to in my entire life.
Bumped onto Swarm at random on RUclips last year and became a fun instantaneously. Exceptional musicians, creativity, feel and balance across the board! Kudos to one and all!!!
I found out about Thank you Scientist a few weeks after your concert in St. Paul. You guys are one of my favorite bands now. I wish I'd discovered you guys a month earlier.
Absolutely the best band to come out in a loooooong time! I just got my double lp of this album in and am blown away by your music every time I hear it. Easily top 5 best albums of all time for me. I hope to see you guys next time you're in Nashville!

I tend to improvise live as it’s just more fun, plus it’s an excuse to work those brain muscles and (hopefully) improve. Very kind of you, thanks
I told him Tom the same thing when I saw the tour recently! Im glad to see others say the same!
Thank You Scientist, didn’t know you could improve upon already such sick chops.

Thanks Joe! Get that project off the ground it’s never too late :)
That much talent should not coexist in a single band but OH BOY thank God it does! I fell in love with your music since the first song I heard.
Wow you're thanking God? I thought we were thanking scientists... Don't tell me this whole science vs faith thing is going on here ;)
