This 1973-74 season was the beginning of the end for Günter Netzer as a force. He had a bad season with his new team Real Madrid & lost his spot in the national team to Wolfgang Overath, for 1974 world cup. You can see in this game, his deterioration. Countless misplaced passes & dwelling on the ball, leading to him being dispossessed.

Yeah, you can already see the decline from his level in 1972. But I'm pretty sure that if they've had Müller up front, he would've got a couple of assists)

Although he recovered his form in the 1974/75 season under Miljan Miljanic and played a few more games for Germany.

I loved watching Netzer, he was magisterial, should have become one of the greats.

Netzer made the same mistake Beckenbauer did in 1977: Deciding to play abroad a year before the World Cup. Mind you back then it was not customery to move abroad and play in a foreign league.When you join a new league, it may make time to adjust and reproduce your previous form, and if like Cruyff in his 1-st season in Barca, you can't impose your will to run the team, you might lose form and consequently lose your place in the national team. If Overath had gone abroad and Netzer had stayed home, most probably Netzer would have been the midfield general in 74 W. Cup. In case of Beckenbauer, I think it was more case of moving to the US; far from Europe that cost him not playing in 78 W. Cup. But Helmut Schoen should have picked him even if he was playing in NASL.

el selecionador alemam helmut sohen. fue un descorte no dandle ningun partido de salida con los 11 jugadores, en la fase final del mundia de alemania 1974. si sabemos que overat era un gran pilar en la selecion alemana. pero hunter neztzer jugo una gran eurocopa desde la fase de clasificacion hasta la fase final de la eurocopa de naciones. gando alemani la final ala poderosa urss. ya sabemos que no es tema facil donde los 22 selecionados todos son muy buenos. y solo pueden jugar 11 en el terreno de juego. pero esque ningun partido salir de titular manda cojons. el borusia de mondesglag. gano una copa de la uefa, overata ya no era el de 1966 y 1970. pero el selecionador aleman opto por overat, ficho por el madrid la temporada 1973 1974. la verdad no fue buena ni para el ni para el madrid. en las dos temporadas siguientes fueron escelentes mas bien sobre saliente como decimos en españa en la recopa al jugar cuartos de final con el estrella roja. nos eliminaron los penaltis y miljanic. aun su amor por belgrado y su estrella roja. de haber estado el madrid hubiese pasado la eliminatoria. en su ultima temporada fue su adios al futbol competitivo y un hasta pronto al madrid. el madrid tubo la mala suerte en tocvarnos el mejor de europa el bayer de munig. campeon de europa en las don anteriores. pero apesar de todo netzer. tambien jugo sobre saliente. su ultima temporada se gano la liga se llego a semifinales. pero el gran bayer de munig nos doblego sobre todo en munig.

Creo que en la esclusion de Netzer da la selecion alemana por el WM '74 fue enfluezada para opera de los "bavareses", Beckembauer preferio Overath porque no era "rebelde" como a Netzer
