      Indeed, however Gunter was a little physically fragile and was more like a 1950's player playing in the 70's. But he never resorted to kicking and always used his skill and was still able to impose himself at international level in a way that Glenn Hoddle, who was a similar type of player couldn't.

    I am ashamed to admit that I had only heard of Netzer before stumbling upon this video, but never actually seen footage of him. My God, he's a fantastic player. It's...It's like watching Pirlo with these diagonal balls with a splash of Platini when he wants to go forward. It's beautiful! 😭

    You couldn't have chosen better time than now where BMG are leading the title race in Bundesliga!
    What a hell of player he was! For me, a Greek fan of AEK Athens and also a lover of the great 70s Gladbach, Gunter Netzer is the absolute Maestro with his bucket, giving the tempo and the tone. Look his outrageous skill for a tall guy like him, how he accelerates,how he uses the outside of the food, his precise long balls. Playing cocky,Dukish, arrogantly! Stylish and dynamic on the same time...
    Love him!

    I consider myself lucky that I could watch him play in Mönchengladbach the season before he left for Real Madrid. If there has ever been a genius on a football ground, it is Günter Netzer. He had all the intellect to anticipate each move and the technical skill to make a 40 mtrs pass that would arrive exactly on the foot of a striker. And when he decided to take the ball into the opponents' penalty area, he was by no means sluggish but accelerated to get past anyone. And, of course, the goals he scored are legendary.
    Probably the best and most complete football player Germany has ever had.

      Story half true. In his own bio he said that he didn't play because his transfer to real was fix.
      But in halftime the coach wanted to put him in, but he himself denied.
      Then in extra time he saw his exhausted teammates and stood up the bench,while the whole crowd was sceaming his name. He came on the pitch and scored.

    • @HarmsFootball
      @HarmsFootball 5 лет назад +15

      His peak was shorter. And his national career was a little disappointing - Schön didn't like him and preferred a more disciplined Overath over him... which, in my opinion, was a mistake. West Germany side that won 1972 Euros was absolutely breathtaking - and while two years later they've won the World Cup, it wasn't the same dominant attacking side that swept away everything that stood in front of it. The difference? Netzer. It's not surprising that 1972 Ballon d'Or list looked like this - Beckenbauer 81 points; Netzer 79 points; Müller 79 points.
      And in general, his club teams were overshadowed by his contemporaries. Borussia Mönchengladbach was arguably the best German team of the 70's, but Beckenbauer's Bayern won 3 European Cups and it's all that people remember now. Real Madrid won 2 La Ligas and a couple of Cups with Netzer, but people were too fascinated with Johan Cruyff's impact at Barcelona.

      Don't mean to take anything away from Netzer, but at 3:39, that's the Cologne equalizer against Mönchengladbach in the famous german '73 Cup Final, scored by a certain Herbert Neumann.

    Sólo se habla de Cruyf...Bekrmbauer, pero ver a este jugador distribuyendo juego, dando asistencias de gol, con las 2 piernas, con el interior y el exterior...demuestra que el futbol es puro marketing de los medios y ya en aquella época...y que este hombre debería ser más reconocido..., gran jugador.
