It is a really nice looking and involved chassis! A far cry from the super simple TT02 for sure! I think we all miss steps and build things wrong all the time! I know I feel like an idiot every time I do it too so no worries, you are in the majority with goofing up things! I am looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with the body and seeing it out for a quick drive!

These higher spec Tamiyas are just a joy to build. Just built a FF03 and they really have no slop and bearings. Just the 850 bearings for suspension and steering are also missing there.
I just öike the IFS. Such a nice mechanism to look at.

Same here, have a stock V1 that I just got up and running after having it sit around for a number of years. Only issue I've found is the front-left dogbone driveshaft seems to be too short (if that's even possible). Turing full right and on throttle sees the driveshaft slip out and wobble all over the place.

Loved every minute of this 1 beautiful chassis and I love the battery layout as it's easy to fit 3s lipo's for speed running.
Yeah I also noticed the TA05 has no slop anywhere and was very surprised.
I recently bought a new bearing set and could only find TA05R bearings and thought there was no difference.🤔... The TA05R uses 950 wheel bearings and the standard TA05 uses 1150 bearings lol, but luckily just means I have 2 full bearing sets for an unused shelf queen TA05R 🤣.
I still use my TA05 and on every RC outing and not only does it take a lot of abuse it also runs straight and true and very fast on 3s lol. 👍

Hi Glenn. Great video! I have two TA05s myself (v2 and an R). My v2 is a driver but I have a couple important upgrades you should keep your eye out for. The differential joints are plastic and the dog bones will eventually start cutting grooves or divots into them. Especially if you run brushless. Try to grab 2x sets of the aluminum differential joints. You have to put those plastic guides around the end of the dog bone so the fit is precise and this prevents grooves from being cut into the joint. Sway bars are the other. The weight distribution is also off. Modern lipo batteries are not heavy enough to counter the weight on the left side. You need to add a strip of counterweights on the battery side. The rear springs should be no softer than medium… the weight issue makes the car dartie when you launch if the rear is too soft. Can’t wait to see you drive it!

Wow, what a trip down memory lane! I used to have a TA05IFS years ago, I raced it indoors on carpet at my local club, and it was one of the best cars I've ever raced. The build quality and precision was superb, and for a plastic Tamiya chassis it was way beyond anything I'd ever had from them. Yes, modern cars would probably run rings around it, but I don't really care, I loved the one I had, it was awesome. Brilliant video, thank you!

I did the same when I built my Mustang GT4. Well, the first one that came with my TT-02, anyway. Many of the areas that included a sticker I masked and painted in PS-5. The difference between the “second” car and the first is pretty significant. Even though the “second” body was done up proper, the way I painted the first one looks much nicer.
Also, I have two of them because it’s a Mustang; when do you NOT have two of them, especially when you drift? Lol

Probably my favourite chassis ever, and a joy to build. Hopups sadly are very hard to get by now, especially since hardly any parts from the V1 fit (so you don't even have to feel bad about moving on that TA05R of yours ;D) I've always been looking at the image of the fully hopped up version on the box with slight frustration. But at least I got close :)

The TA05 is really an amazing chassis. Funny thing is, the TA05 was the last serious go Tamiya made with competing against Yokomo with a serious RC drift competitor at the time when RC drift was starting to catch on in the US.
Yes, Tamiya still make a “drift” chassis using a TT-02* but it’s nothing like what they did when they used a TA05.
I’ve always liked my Tamiya cars but when I found out about the TA05, I wish I had gotten into RC sooner.
*The TT-02 “Drift Spec” is overpriced and embarrassingly poor of an attempt of a drift chassis by Tamiya. I had built my own (prior to it being the TT-02R clone it is now) and the performance is hindered by the lousiness of the standard TT-02 steering.
