    Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts that can pop into our heads without warning, at any time. They're often repetitive - with the same kind of thought cropping up again and again - and they can be disturbing or even distressing.

  • @dejdej19
    @dejdej19 Год назад +39

    Colleen, as a nanny I've dealt with a few working women who struggle with guilt for working and having a life outside of their children. It's totally normal and understandable, but I think it's important for you to also prioritize yourself, your desires and your goals while still having children, especially since you have found a nanny you love! I know the phone issue doesn't seem like a big deal, but you don't want small things to turn into more small things, which turn into bigger issues. Keep taking care of you so you can be the best mom for those adorable children. "You time" matters as well!

    • @TdScar
      @TdScar Год назад +4

      Agreed! As someone with a helicopter mom who was always around at home and never did anything for her because she was always in my space I definitely am working through a horrible attachment issue that I hate. Not to mention now that my sister and I are adults and I don’t live at home she’s said she doesn’t even know who she is now

    • @hahna77
      @hahna77 Год назад +1

      @Taylor my daughter is engaged to a man with a mom just like that & he now has nothing to do with his mom because she was so controlling & intrusive in their relationship and every aspect of his life. And sadly he now has no relationship with his almost 20 year old sister, because they turned her against him & talked her into dropping out of college & moving back home & getting a job at the dad's office. They still control who she dates & where she's allowed to go. It's so sad. Children need their independence and a mother, not a martyr.

    Even though my kids are grown, I understand not wanting to leave the kids and take that time to get your phone figured out. However, the stress and time devoted to being annoyed with the phone IS taking time away from the kids. Kids can also pick up on the stress you’re feeling. You will feel so much better after it’s taken care of. Alternatively, make an appointment at the phone place, find 2 small places to take the kids that are near the phone place. Have your parents or nanny with you. Your parents/nanny take the kids to place number one while you go to the phone place. When you are done, you’ll be in the same area as them and take them to a short activity, or to lunch, ice cream, etc…I’m thinking that they will be able to quickly solve your issue and then it will be over with. I love you, Colleen & Erik! Such a great podcast ❤️

This is when your efforts of concentrating on that thing drop entirely. Meditation becomes effortless and you are one with universal consciousness. It’s a beautiful feeling.

      I don’t think it’s laziness. I think she has major mom guilt. She wants to spend as much time with her kids and going to a store that she doesn’t want to take her kids to is not worth it in her mind. Because, again, she wants to spend as much time with her kids as possible. Her priorities are kids then work. So I kinda get where she’s coming from but she needs to suck it up when it’s something you have to do yourself. Just get it done and over with.

    • @danielledawn3930
      @danielledawn3930 Год назад

      Not laziness, just different priorities. And more importantly, she literally did not say birthing children excuses her from doing anything. She literally said, immediately after that, that they both have things they do individually that the other person doesn't because they are a team. And she is clearly a very hard working person, wife, and mom. She brought up birthing their children as an example of one type of work she has done for their family because Eric asked if she had ever broken down their recycling. Birthing children is definitely way more work than just the one day of giving birth as it changes your life and body during pregnancy and postpartum, is a huge commitment, and they both talk a lot about their teamwork as parents.

    Colleen those intrusive thoughts are postpartum anxiety. The excuses for not fixing her phone are ridiculous because the kids take naps which would not be taking time away from them but also she literally could just send Kory to do it while she hung out with the kids or did work.

    Colleen, the tech thing is an ADHD thing. Just too much to figure out, too many steps. My mind goes blank at the instructions and even the quick rage. We like the older stuff because we know it. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn new stuff, just helps to understand why.

    I 100% agree about technology. AirPods don't work for me either and new cars drive me nuts. 😂 I find the screens a lot more distracting and dangerous than the old dials. It's also nice to hear someone else deals with the same kind of intrusive thoughts and overactive brain as me. Thank you as always for sharing ❤

    I have a problem with silence as well and I am also a massage therapist who also regularly gets massages, I usually try, if my client is regular to pick music or sounds they prefer! Partially because if they can’t relax with water sounds then why am I playing water sounds and also to find something loud enough to cover up involuntarily sounds. Because try as you might, if you’re massaging someone you’re likely to get winded or accidentally sighing or groaning from exertion! I also have air moving because if I’m hot and sweAting and a client is under a blanket with the heating pad on they probably will get warm too. I can definitely attest to as well as the actual massage can be, if you can’t clear your mind or at least be completely distracted in a good way by the atmosphere of the room then that lowers the quality of the experience!

    I enjoy hearing and relating to your experience with thoughts! Ive been trying to quiet the mind and detach myself from my thoughts because its easy to carry their energies throughout my day. Its very hard to explain it, but you took the words right from my... thoughts lol. Its nice to know other people experience thinking like this. I always have multiple streams of thoughts going on and overlapping and whatnot, it can be exhausting!! Thank you for sharing colleen!!

    Colleen I feel like the best 'time' is when you're away from the kids inbetween of your work schedule and hotel destination. It sounds to me even when you're touring you don't have time to see the city but you have time to barely sleep I guess that's the time to use it for tech support for your devices... Maybe that would help with your glitching or technical issues when on air...

    You can buy another phone instead of fixing the old one because you can afford it. Not everyone has a thousand dollars to get a new phone instead of fixing old one for much much less 😊 guess it just boils down to priorities.
