The Seekers are an Australian band.....Judith Durham's voice is so pure it just cuts right through. I never had heard this song until a month ago and I am in my 60's...love it! Their big hit was "Georgie Girl" which is also fire!

Her voice was wonderful and their harmonies were fluid. And to think they were able to get this sound without autotune

The Beatles recorded their first Album in the studio in ONE day! 14 songs in total. George Martin, their producer said the longer the day got, the better they boy's played and sang. No auto tune, no session players, no tricks. Just talent.

There will never be another Seekers but a modern band like London Grammar make equally beautiful music with a sublime female lead singer in Hannah Reid.
Listen to "America" or "What a day" = Fantastic music and vocals !

This is such a beautiful song and the Seekers were amazing ! There was another band on the charts at the same time and the band is called Spanking and our Gang gang and they have a song called Sunday will never be the same ! If you enjoyed this you will enjoy that song as well ! The early mid-sixties were a great time for this kind of music !

This was in the abbey road studio, london, where the beatles worked a lot. They worked a ship over to there and got work for a few years. Eventually came back, Judith quit, feeling inadequate. They reformed a few times down the years. She was so amazing.

I remember when this song first came out. Although Auto-Tune is okay, it takes away the heart felt effort of the singer(s). It would be refreshing to have a performer go back to work and know that they got the song spot on.

Pure music played by real musicians, not a PC in sight, oh how times have changed for the worse with the modern technology that creates false music and is nothing more than magicians tricks to make shit sound better. Thanks for taking me back to my youth with a song I have not heard in years. I was never much of a fan of The Seekers as I was more into Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc. My own musical journey led me to become a blues vocalist after I started in rock, but this is so pure and real and takes me back to when music was music. Thank you.

This was not only recorded at Abby Road, but in the main studio that was usually reserved for the owners ... The Beatles... their producer was Dusty Springfield's brother Tom. Judith passed away recently, but even with her health problems she never lost her tone. If I am not mistaken this song knocked the Beatles out of #1 on the charts
As aside comment, you are correct about what you say about one take. Frank Sinatra was notorious for perfecting a song in rehearsal to the point he almost never required more than one take. But that's another story...

The story is told that a farmer heard that if he piped music into his barn, it would calm his livestock. He tried it and the next day his prize ram had committed suicide. When the veterinarian asked him what song he had played this was the song he noted.

Great reaction and performance. Today’s musicians could get it right in one or two takes as long as they have talent. In 1965 studio musicians with one member of the Byrds (Roger McGuinn) recorded two songs in one hour which included “Mr Tambourine Man.” Later the band members insisted on doing it themselves. It took 77 takes to get “Turn, Turn, Turn.” The studio musicians (The Wrecking Crew) were better than the band. Talent usually wins.

I'm pretty sure they are mock rocking to the actual record. Back in 1964 you could never get a straight live mix that well balanced through a PA system. They didn't actually have official music videos until 1980 at the earliest. All these musical artist clips were broadcasted on TV then years later branded as the official music video.
