    I love my 1998, I supercharged it and then added nitrous. Cant wait to get to the track this year to get more videos of it racing down the 1/4 mile. My best run so far is 12.806.

    Got one that's 17 years and still ticking!! I wonder how much that would translate into American funds today? It really is a smooth vehicle. I like that I am sitting up fairly high which means I can hit some treacherous weather on the roads without it taking the truck out as fast as a low rider.

    I had a 2002 Sport Trac with 330,000kms on the original motor...great truck, just wish they had the option of the 5.0

    Traded my 96' back in 2004 for a BMW 323i.....Jesus that was a maintenance nightmare. Should have kept my Explorer for many more years and saved all that money. Solid reliable truck. Oh well, I now have a 2004 Grand Cherokee 4x4 paid off with low miles so Im alright :D

    I used to drive this Ford Explorer during my college freshman years on road-trip from Kuala Lumpur to Thailand border. The Explorer was owned by one of my college flatmate's dad & had a Supercharger installed (from Toyota Estima/Previa) & let me tell you that Mazda-engined 4.0L V6 Explorer need a supercharger boost because that SUV can drive like a speeding bullet on highways.

    Got one myself, this spring. Didn't read your glowing review first, though. Ford must have sold a LOT of them, At least 10 of these 98s in my town of 13K. 23 yrs later, still a viable ride.

    My dad gad one . Tough truck . Drove me hrough 4 feet of snow and white out conditions to 25 below and started right up. Pulled sedans out of ditches and through deep sand and mud. Endured all of his contractor tools and what not . And got 20 + mpg with a v6

      Well Mine kept trying to kill me, its lights turned off randomly, it kept backfiring, it twisted on the roundabouts and was a gas guzzler. And mine was a 1 owner with 65,000 miles, not a junker.

    Just Got a 1999 explorer limited, for the most part it is immaculate, unfortunately rocker panel rust is starting to happen. still I really like everything about the vehicle, I hope I can keep the body cancer at bay..she only has 172,000 kms on her, I hope to keep her for a long long time

    • @guythomson5833
      @guythomson5833 10 лет назад

      Mine is a '92 with 210K on it . The Rocker panel thing is common and mine are pretty much gone. You can order the right and left sides from the States for under $100. I have to replace mine pretty soon via fabrication or ordering them.

      Thanks Guy. So the tracker is now history?

    • @guythomson5833
      @guythomson5833 10 лет назад

      Yup, I sold it a little under a year ago to a kid who needed cheap transportation for really cheap apparently . It served me well for 10 years so no regrets . I got the '92 from my brother in law since he upgraded to an '06 Blazer . Its bigger, harder on gas, but its a 5 speed and gets decent mileage for an old truck on the highway. I replaced the windshield, front drivers quarterpanel, drivers side headlight and bezel, clutch, and all the tie rods on it ...think I should have waited to get a newer model and that may happen later this year . I got a promotion at work and am in line for a raise, rumoured to be a decent one ( finally!) . On the plus side, the Expedition is bigger, handles the snow pretty well, and starts everytime , even at -30 when it hasn't been plugged in . ( oops) . How are things down there?

      +Rick Offermann wow you got a deal there. That's I'm going to guess around 95,000 miles (give or take) on the translation possibly. It will probably last you well. Mine is a 98 and it's around 200,000 and it's still going well. Body not too cancerous and the engine hums like a kitten lol

    I love my 98 there is just something nostalgic about it. It does have some quirks but it's smooth, quite, and I love the acceleration from the 4.0 SOHC such a good engine.

    Thinking of selling my 2000 Blazer and getting a 3rd Gen Explorer.
    Anyone have any idea of what they mean by "cruising at 106mph"?
    like... it can effortlessly drive at that speed? or is that the top speed?

    • @angelgjr1999
      @angelgjr1999 6 лет назад +1

      Ive done 105 before, it was quiet scary though, felt like it was floating and it could not handle any higher speed. But I dont know why anyone would go over 100 in an suv, unless you are crazy like me. :)

      I went 115 haha it is a little scary but not as bad as you’d think maybe almost like a Jeep I would imagine but I’ve never driven a Jeep haha

      Nick Herrera True. Explorer will drag a rav4 in a towing contest. It would also beat it in every other catagory.

      I'm not sure if it was available in the U.K., but Explorers up to '97 all had a pushrod version of the engine, it was slower but damn reliable. It was still an option in Explorers and Rangers up until 2000 I believe, but they were getting uncommon by then. And again, I'm not sure if any with the pushrod 4.0 were available outside of America.
