Videos like this are why I LOVE this channel. I honestly had never even heard of Terranigma before watching your review. Now I need to track a copy down and try it for myself! :D
There were a whole bunch of Super Famicom RPGs never released in the US and thus remain largely unknown there. Games like Live-A-Live, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Treasure of the Rudras, Chaos Seed, and the Ys games. are worth checking out in the case you ask me.
This game is a work of surreal art, I've played lots of games with good stories but this one was truly unique, I just could not even begin to write a story like this game, the transitions from one moment to the next all had such an impact, I remember awakening the animal kingdom getting to know all of the characters, only to lose the ability to speak to the animals once you move on to the humans, the sense of lost when they basically became something you could no longer interact with was really impactful, if you've never played the game then what I just wrote reads like gibberish but trust me this game is like nothing else and is full of these little moments that move you in ways that I just cannot think of another piece of art doing.
This game definitely had more poignant emotional moments, when compared to Illusion of Gaia. The combat, coupled with Yomi's comedy, the soundtrack and the character development of the supporting cast made this quite an enjoyable game to play.
Hey man, nice review. I just found your channel, very personal approach to the games overall. I have a special fondness for Terranigma, since it's part of Quintet stelar projects of the SNES era. Actually, from a interview of Robert Jerauld (former producer at Enix USA at that time): "...there is no connection in the universe between SoulBlazer and Gaia. SoulBlazer is actually related to ActRaiser and is in many ways a sort of a prequel to ActRaiser. Now, the connection is a pretty distant one, but it’s there!
Dude, your reviews are informative and interesting. Especially since most of your reviews have games that I played and enjoyed myself. Keep up the good work. Just some game suggestions, in case you haven't played them (don't take this as a requirement/request) - Rogue Galaxy, Shadow Hearts series, Dark Cloud 2, SMT Digital Devil Saga series, and Steambot Chronicles. I still go back to these games from time to time.
I really appreciate that! I plan on eventually tackling all of your suggestions. I actually had not heard of Steamboat Chronicles and that game looks superb. How did I miss this? Thanks!
Ahh, Terranigma... Such a shame that we never got this game State-side. But hooray for emulation, allowing us to enjoy the title. ;) I finished playing Soul Blazer recently and have started play Illusion of Gaia on my channel. And when that is finished, I'll be moving on to this game and I'm very much looking forward to it. ;) The themes and stories of these games are so good. Terranigma is definitely one of the best games the SNES has to offer... if only we were offered it when it was released. :P Great video!
I always look forward to your comments. I didn't experience this title until recently and I just have to stress how impressed I was by what the writers decided to tackle - though that era of gaming has surprisingly adult and morbid themes tucked inside far less "realistic" packages, Terranigma didn't hold back one bit. Even if a gamer hasn't experienced its predecessors, I highly recommend this game as one of the truly under-appreciated SNES gems.
High Level Reviews It puts a smile on my face to see when the RUclipsrs I watch look forward to seeing my comments on their videos. ;) Thanks for that.
Great review, insightful and informative without spoiling the goods. Not sure if you take requests and suggestions but I'd love to hear your take on Mother 3 and Shining Force 2
I know you already made some comments about SaGa Frontier in your SF2 review, but could there be any chance of you looking into it a little deeper so we could see a full review?
I do actually plan on getting out a full review of the first title. Admittedly, it might be a bit of a wait but I've been asked by several people if I'd do it and the game definitely looks interesting.
Nice review, one question, did you play this on an emulator or on an original cartridge? Mostly because CIB copies are among the most expensive PAL SNES games, with a few exceptions being the Scandinavian version of Soul Blazer
I just bought the game (with big box and everythig) for about 60$ and will play it on my SNES probably within a few days! Really looking forward to it!
You regain the crystals?! LoL Ive beaten this game so many times and I had no idea you get them back. The magic is so pointless in this game I hardly ever used it in any of my playthroughs.

A shame it never came to the States, it definitely reminds me of Illusia of Gaia!

I hope this gets released on the Switch's VC
Definitely among the top5 SNES RPGs if not Top3.
I just bought the game (with big box and everythig) for about 60$ and will play it on my SNES probably within a few days! Really looking forward to it!
R Michael 46/ How's the game going now?
Vaiken Sverte was worth every single cent!!! Just an awesome game.
good review as always!
thank you!
what is the name of the game of the intro on 0:13 ?
The final one of his intro before his title splash? Grandia.
The one before that with a char named Lyle? Wild Arms.
Gaaaaaaaaahhhh I wanna play this game now!!! :X
I like terranigmq, but I always liked the story of illusion of Gaia more.
