- This public event celebrates the Wittliff Collections' Armadillo Rising exhibition displayed from February-June 2015. In the early 1970s the Armadillo World Headquarters became the cosmic capital of Austin’s burgeoning music scene, sparking the rise of a uniquely Texas blend of rock, country, and blues that transformed American music.
This program featured EDDIE WILSON, JOE NICK PATOSKI and JASON MELLARD, with a special video appearance of MARK HANNA and RICHARD GAYLORD.

I was 5 years old and on the other end of the continent, ( Ontario, Canada), but in my early 30's caught a song that would turn my music world upside down. The song was HANK WILLIAMS TONIGHT by Jerry jeff Walker, and I went on a 3 year musical binge where I entered the beautiful musical world of Jerry Jeff, and he has never been far from my home entertainment system. But I have also come to know a lot about this world as time went by, and if ever i wished I was born in a different time and place, it was here.
i was there from72 thru the end
Saw AC/DC with Bon Scott, High Voltage Tour in 1977 , and many more, smoking and drinking $1 pitchers of Budwieser. It was a great place for Rock n Roll💯🤟🤟
I was a teen then , best of times
Wow! That was a great conversation. Wonderful stories. I remember those potholes in the dark behind the 'Dillo very well! "60Minutes" filmed me and Cheri Britton dancing hard at Talking Heads doin' the 'Dillo in '79. What a life-changer moving to Austin was, and discovering AWH !! Thanks to all those involved ~~
Kudos to the sound man! Hard room to 🎤!
Austin used to be amazing. It’s not so much today.

@ Chuck O Kelley you live here in Austin homie?
70s rock music scene in Austin was NOTHING compared to the West Coast. I'm talking "rock and roll" not "country/rock" folk/rock" or country/western/folk/rock. In other words, bands like The Doors, Blue Cheer, Earthquake, Jefferson Airplane, Spirit, Montrose, Van Halen, etc not most of the third rate garage bands that played the Armadillo.
