In all the years I've been watching your videos, I've always wondered how it is that a guy with such a perfect approach to covers has so few subscriptions. I know that +30k is still a cool result, but it doesn't reflect your guitar awesomeness in 5%. No one else does such clean, close to the originals and perfectly played 80s covers. I remember the first time I came across this channel, because I was looking for a good Armageddon It cover. In all those years, no one on YT even came close to how Clark played those solos on the album. And Ben smashed it into factors by playing it practically note for note as it is played on the album. I remember saying to myself at the time "so this is how it should be played, this guy is a real talent".
Thanks for the kind words Tomasz, and also for the support! You have been a subscriber of mine for a very long time. I possibly could've improved in areas which would have made my channel more 'accessible', like with better channel art, click-bait thumbnails, and song selection. But to achieve the amount of subscribers I have, by just doing things the way I wanted to, without the 'marketing' style approach, I am very humbled and overwhelmed. I also like the idea of having a smaller 'fanbase' who share similar musical tastes than the other way around. Who knows what's to come though, but I'll always keep trying to improve, learn the songs I like, and see if I can be as accurate as possible to hopefully help others play too. Thanks again! Ben :)
I am a Japanese in my 50's and this song is the one that got me interested in western music for the first time when I was a child, and I remember going to my first live concert. 😊Thanks for choosing this song, sorry if the English is not correct, it is a deepl translation.
I used to roll my eyes at this song when it first came out but now its one of my cherished favorites. There aren't a lot of high energy pop songs like this anymore and the world is a sadder place for it. Love your energetic overlay!
Agreed. We are missing this level of earnest creativity in modern music. Now you don’t need talent and creativity, just a gimmick to pander to people with
Absolutely! To be honest I never liked this song, but have a new found respect for it watching BWM5150 lay it down like this. Just great guitar playing.
Ironically this was a good example of what critics in the 80s claimed was "music done by computers" because of the overwhelming amount of synths and Fairlight samples that were probably added by producers rather than the keyboard player.
I was 13 or 14 years old working in a market garden for an Italian family in small town New Zealand when this song came out and I first heard it on the radio while at work. The energy and the anthemic feel gave me so much hope as a small town kid with a shitty job. It was a great song then and it’s a great song now. And Ben … your treatment really brings out the very best bits of it. Thank you so much mate 👍🏽👍🏽
Been waiting for this one! You should hear the guitar parts played for this song during the Tampa Stadium concert in late 85'. Sounded great! I want to try and learn the synth parts of this song and try and play all of it. Hardly anyone on youtube has attempted to play the synth parts accurately.
Craig Chaquico doesn't get the credit he deserves. Starship may have been corporate rock, but the layers he put into the rhythm guitar for a band based on keyboards is some Lifeson-esque stuff there.
Thank you for taking my request for this song cover and turning it into something so beautiful to listen to. Massively underrated song of the 80s! Keep rocking! Regards from Bangkok, Thailand.
A lot of people don’t know these bands had real players! The final mixes of the 80s are always about keyboards but Craig is a fantastic player! Thank you Ben! This one is special to me❤
I love how you put these covers together. You master any song put in front of you. More than that it's a real treat for us watching when you share these! Keep up the awesome work!
So many "comebacks" for older bands in the 80s...Chaquico was one of my under the radar favorite guitarists back then. Another awesome job on an "easy" guitar track 👍💪🍻
This is an absolutely outstanding song I’ve always loved it . We need more songs like this in life I’m an out an out rocker but this is a superb slice of AOR/pop I could not live without . Stupendous cover I’ve always loved the radio voiceover bit too . Nice job Ben
Fantastic cover. I’ve always found this song a little cheesy, but still enjoyed it, especially the solo (and it’s epic tone). This version really brings it to life - great playing!
By the way I totally agree with You in your description. This is a very fine piece of music. Cheesy? Not a bad thing imo. It's over the top. I love the big choir and the fact that You can sing-a-long. It's cool😎
I remember when this song was released and they played it ad nauseum on the radio, until you got sick of it. all these years later, now I know it kicks ass. another good cover
Even listening to this song I always have my ears on the guitar part through out the song and now I'm seeing exactly how its played. You too good hats off to you👍🙏
You played the song's melody with your guitar, amazingly beautiful, lovely, and effortlessly🥰. Listening to your guitar was heart-warming and soothing to my heart💖. I listened repeatedly and never get enough; that's how much I adore your guitar performance🎸. Thank you so very much, you're the best of the best🎉. Not to mention, I love this song, too.
I don't know about you all people that comment on this guy but I am really starting to believe he may be the best guitarist as of right now that exists he nails every cord note-for-note with such perfection very very impressive ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
awesome cover, i love Starship first three albums. Love among Cannibals is highly underrrated. The band got too much undeserved hate, i dunno why, its one of the best poppy lite-AOR bands of all times
Okay I know I am a bit late but somebody please can we talk about the ending of this video on fire 🔥🔥🔥 you did that Ben 🎸🎧 cheers 🍻 your journey fan always 🎶🎶

It always amazes me how easy you make this look when I know it is not. I wish I had your pinky's worth of talent with a guitar cos I would think I was a rock star.
Always love to see you playing , this is a great one. Prophetic really. When you think about it. She was one of the first in San Francisco. She helped build it, after all.
you are a legend for doing this man! some of my favortie covers here! accuracy and sound design is awesome! i cannot believe its a me-50 and few other things!
This is the song which was named the "worst song of all time" by GQ magazine. I say they must be stupid; I have always loved it. Excellent choice, sir.

I still can’t believe VH1 voted this the worst song of the 80s.
The worst? Not even close. Listen to anything from The Smiths. Terrible, terrible music.
Far from the worst. Great cover!
@@kylewilliams2165 agreed, fantastic cover
Really?!? I always loved it!
I can. Lol. Listen to the lyrics. lol

This song is actually very well crafted; guitar lines are sick and so way underrated.

We built this city
We built this city on rock and roll
Built this city
We built this city on rock and roll
It's just another Sunday
In a tired old street
Police have got the choke hold, oh
Then we just lost the beat
Who counts the money underneath the bar?
Who rides the wrecking ball into our guitars?
Don't tell us you need us 'cause we're the ship of fools
