  • More baling action here! • Raking and baling hemp... This video shows our recently acquired large square baler put to work with hemp fiber.
Working smarter, not harder! I wish we had some of this equipment when I was growing up on the farm. This video was shot near Brookville, IN, and shows some of the new hardware my father and brother have for handling straw and hay.
The accumulator is attached to the baler, and piles ten bales of straw or hay together in the field for retrieval using the grapple. Before this hardware came along, you had to either pull a wagon behind the baler, or just let the bales drop to the ground all over the field.
Pulling a wagon behind the baler meant at least one person had to be on the wagon, pulling the bales off of the baler as they were completed, and then stacking all the bales by hand. Very dusty work, riding behind an operating baler, and you had to have good balance to work on a moving wagon.
The second method involved a second crew following the baler, and picking up all the bales from the ground, and throwing them up to the wagon. This would usually involved two or three people working on the wagon (one or two picking up bales, and one person stacking), and one person driving the tractor pulling the wagon.
