I envy every single one of those people on that roof. What a phenomenal memory.
The Beatles appeared in small concerts all over England. Before and after the FAME. They went out socially in London. They were on Battle of the Bands competition on the BBC. They were everywhere. Which is why the people on the roof were probably more concerned about the cold than the magic of the moment..

This take is awesome AND hilarious. That opening guitar miscue from John is hilarious, ans George turning the amp in defiance is awesome and legendary.
And the look that George gave to the police after turning on the freakin amp.
But John's later solo is great.
What do you mean by miscue? When he didn’t play for a couple seconds?
@@BeatlesWeezerFan1995 I was a bit confused by that also. Seems more a case of John fluffing his lead fill - understandably - because of the disruption behind him. John seemed to be ready to stop playing but Paul kept singing.
Cops hate music?
On a chilly January, 4 lads from Liverpool who had taken a long and winding road to a rooftop in London played together for the final time. In the end they left the building got into their cars and drove off into history. Never to perform together again. They left us with a legacy of music that moved us, touched our hearts and souls. We are better because of these 4 men and their music.

Many bands end up becoming cover bands of there ‘good ol’ days’ honestly The Beatles achieve everything they needed to. Maybe we could’ve had another gooden? Maybe not? Fate has sealed it. Honestly I like it. Rare af for bands to never drop in quality like they did.

That young policeman (standing by the entrance) was interviewed years later after he retired from the police and was asked if he knew who the Beatles were : he replied that he never heard of them !!!!!
Such a level of non awareness amongst many of our thin blue line is unchanged today!

I love the deadpan expressions of the young policeman. I suspect he is enjoying the performance so is taking things nice and slow without losing his authority which he clearly has judging by the reactions of Mal Evans and the band.

I always think about Billy Preston, who turned up to say hello as he was appearing on a Lulu TV show that night... And ended up being an integral part on most of the songs on Let It Be.. He comes across as a great guy.. The Beatles all loved him.
he definitely helped those sessions immensely. I'm just mad they couldn't keep it together after this show, but maybe it's better they didn't.

I really love watching John sing and play his guitar. He’s really enjoying it and getting into it. And he’s really good. Also loos pretty cold that day. See him blow on his hand.very cool.
Mal Evans turning off George's amp, and then he almost turns off John's amp...but stops when John turns around. Imagine doing that! He was part of the Beatle family.

He hit the standby switch -odd. -Odd that they are using monster Fender Twins and a solid-state version of the Fender 100 PA -i.e. 100 Watts and 8" speakers for the PA! -Not sufficient to play a sock hop. The only band back then that used modern PA was the Grateful Dead.
If I tried to play live with a Fender Twin today, the sound crew would beat me senseless. Today we use a 1/4 of the power for instruments and MIKE the amps to the MUCH larger PA. Stage volume is now kept LOW. This so the sound guys can get a clean mix.
Back then, they hadn't figured out how to amplify a band.
The Beatles NEVER had stage monitors OR guitar techs! They could not hear themselves think when playing real venues, but their vocal harmonies were always dead on. Amazing.
They changed single strings as they broke..themselves. -Never replaced a full set. Imagine.
The Beatles were one of England's serious exports, -part of the nations GNP and the P.C.s are about to throw them off the roof!
Why they they used some 16 mm cameras instead of ALL 35 mm, I will never know.
It was a typical Apple event. A royal mess.
To this day can't believe the people in the street complained to the authorities who in turn stopped this final historic and FREE performance by the world's greatest rock/pop group !

People were stopping and listening which created a jamb.

For a band that hadn't played live in quite a while..and with brand new songs that had only been written just a few weeks earlier...the boys did very very well indeed. Never before never again...the greatest ever..oh yeah.😊
It's an easy song to play. Even in cold weather.. They worked it out in the studio for weeks prior, and brought it outside. No biggie.
Yeah...well Get Back wasn't the only song they did in the 45 mins they were on the roof..and it was cold and windy..and the songs performed were only stitched together in a studio environment over a roughly three week period..so yeah it's a biggie alright...😊
I watched this again and was reminded how I used to like focussing in on the bass guitar on these later recordings when I was a kid and obsessed by The Beatles. It's worth listening to again that way. Some bassists like to say Macca isn't a great bassist but I loved what he played and it inspired me to play bass guitar coordinated with vocals in my own little band. (It wasn't as successful as this one😅) .

was inspired to be the bassist of our local band in the Phil (1969-76).

Two iconic black & white television moments I took in at age 9. These days I watch Aquarium Channel, Weather Network and Fireplace Channel. All in colour none iconic.

I love the way they played this song to the police! Paul even improvised a few lines because he knew it wasn't making it onto the album. But it made it into our hearts.!

I love that set... its like so great we have the ability to see this... all the ways they communicate to each other and the ways they each can be seen enjoying the moment... it was when no matter what was going on in the drama that was the Beatles... in this moment you can them like into each song... because they really like the song and even if it had Lennon or Paul's name on it... without... all 5 (George Martin) Beatles... creative inputs that end up imprinted into each song... in the creative process.. there was no ego.. it was hey that's fucking perfect add it.. and once they got to a point where Publishing and Lennon and Paul forgot about the Dre's they had that were just as important as the guitar lick and ... idea for a song they walked in the door with and after all 4 were done was a song.
The cops walking out with their heads down is shame..Bet if alive they feel that same way today..a moment in history that needs to be seen to be believed..
