Came across your channel today (25 April 2023) - two years later. For certain, the recipes from the videos I watched will be used. Thank you for each episode. Thank you for teaching.
Thank you for sharing your sweet sour spareribs I enjoyed watching I’m gonna watch it one more time write out the recipe in my Dollar notebook in it and Sometime today I will look for the star anise Take care have a blessed day
WINNAH! Mahalo for this recipe. My wife said she loved it 💝. She even said it tasted like what we’d get at a local restaurant in HI. I couldn’t locate the thick shoyu so used dark shoyu & mixed it with the flour, massaging all into the ribs (after browning). I did add pineapple chunks at my wife’s request. Simple recipe that taste like no-nuff.

@@HawaiisPickleLady thank you for all your valuable recipes passed down from your family !!🌱 I’m from Maui and my mother was a really good cook too !! Thank you auntie for making this video. Looking forward to more videos because Our young generation isn’t gonna know the taste of our culture and generation. I’m afraid that it would be lost so thank you and I appreciate you.😊
Grew up with this. Learned from my mother who was a fantastic cook. Never appreciate sometimes until they are gone. Good thing I have a good memory. Thanks for subscribing.
Glad you have it because they are out of print and available at all Oahu libraries and one LV library. Funny, I never sold my books at Costco, maybe some other store like Shirokiya, Marukai, Bishop Museum, Foster Gardens, etc.?
Aloha! I made this last night for my ʻohana. We all loved it! This is my new favorite channel. I love your videos talking about your family and your Chinese recipes. Iʻm learning so much! Mahalo!
Today I prepared this dish for lunch at work. My co-workers and I really enjoyed it. They all asked for more to take home for the weekend! So ‘ono! Mahalo for sharing this family recipe Leonora!
Just finished making it now. Had some rib tips and it worked fine after taking off all the fat. Had some leftover so made the steamed black bean ribs, so easy, mix everything together and steam for 1/2 hour.
Glad you liked it. I recently went to a Chinese restaurant in Vegas that I heard rave reviews. It was the most disappointing Chinese food I ever tasted. The ribs were not the good cut, was completely colored red and only had a bare hint of vinegar and sugar. The won ton had only a pea size of meat in it. The duck noodle soup (usually my favorite) had terribly dry and tough pieces of meat that looked like it was kept very long and ready to throw out. Restaurants are not always the best.
Old family recipe. I don't like what many restaurants and take outs make, just boil everything with no color. Thick soy sauce is use in a lot of Cantonese cooking for browning.
I have looking for a recipe like this and I finally found you last week. I will be using this recipe next time. Your ingredients are easy to get. Mahalo for your time!
Planning to make this next. Last night we had our Chinese dinner with your Kau Yuk , Char Siu, Choy sun, and orange chicken recipes! Thanks so much for your great tutorials… very simple to follow! Mahalo Nui Loa!
Thank you love your recipes! I gonna try ! Hopefully you do Hulihuli!, live in Arizona but grew up on Oahu, just moved from Big island and homesick for the good food!
It's from Chinatown where all the sauces are. The brand is Koon Chun and comes in a 16 oz jar with a yellow cap and label. I buy several sauces from that brand as it's consistent-plum sauce, hoi sin sauce, shrimp paste, etc. It doesn't need refrigeration and lasts a long time. I use it to brown chicken, kau yuk and other Chinese dishes that need browning. I forget the name of the oyster sauce I use but it has a picture of a lady in a canoe with her son pushing the boat with a long stick and there are huge oysters in the boat. For fish sauce I use 3 crab brand.
Thankyou this is one of my very favorite Chinese dishes and I've always wondered what the process was to cooking it it seems like it would be more complicated or how much flavor you get I'm going to go out and get some pics soy sauce and some Stars and do some this weekend thank you God bless you
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I’m going to try it. I love it with pineapple. One guestion, do I use the liquid also or just the chunks of pineapple?

Our Costco in Southern California (Oxnard) sells spare ribs cut into 2 inch stips so it's easy to cut up and cook.

My family's favorite and so easy.
I loved this recipe; the ribs were so tender, only wished there was more gravy which I enjoy on my rice
Just add some water. The sauce is thick enough and you can add more vinegar and sugar.
Mahalo for all the great recipes! Would you happen to have a good recipe for chicken hekka?
Yes, look for nishime, basically the same.
Planning to make this next.
Last night we had our Chinese dinner with your Kau Yuk , Char Siu, Choy sun, and orange chicken recipes!

Sorry, don't have the machine to rotate, the best is to do teriyaki on the grill.
Looks easy and ono! Thank you! ❤
Delicious recipe. I add raw carrot and daikon to the pot when it simmers.
Mom added pineapple sometimes.

Me too! I going try this one
Please do and you'll never eat most deli type ribs again. They use the tough parts of the meat so it's chewy.
I am will make this dish now. Here in Texas I say yahoo!
Everyone will love it. We have a big family and there's hardly any leftovers.
Mmm, I've never had it this way, must try it. It's really difficult to find sweet and sour spare ribs now, at least on the mainland.
We grew up on this and it it a family favorite. So much better than the restaurants usually.
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I’m going to try it. I love it with pineapple. One guestion, do I use the liquid also or just the chunks of pineapple?
Just the chunks. My mom used to slightly pickle daikon slices and add to the dish.
Thank you for sharing ...
Just wanna know...aunty are u from Malaysia?..tq..
No, from Hawaii. See my channel intro.
after browning, can we put it in the pressure cooker to cook?
