Thanks for this review, Roy. I have the Smartdrive (the MX1 version, not the MX2 like yours) and have used it occasionally for a number of years. I am a paraplegic (T12) and so am able to push OK on a day-to-day basis. The point you make at the end about losing muscle tone is a good one. It would be easy to use either of these devices almost full-time but, in doing so, the effect on your general strength and fitness could be very noticeable. I prefer to keep my Smartdrive off the chair until I definitely need it for hills or distance. Most normal situations I don't need it. Thanks again.
Thank you for comparing these too! I have a smart drive which I’ve had for 5 years, and I am getting the Smoov with my new chair in a couple of months and I’m glad you enjoy the smoov more than the SmartDrive!
Thanks for the video Roy! I am thankful you made a video comparing these units as I think it’s time for me to take the plunge into power assistance. I know what you mean about saving your shoulders. At 52 mine are feeling the years. Thanks again the video was well done and helpful. God bless.
Thank you for your review, this was very helpful, since I just got the smoov . Your right about the shoulders, I blow out my shoulders out and needed the smoov for long distances, otherwise I push manually to maintain strength in my arms.
Hi new friend here! Found you on Emily on wheels. My daughter uses a wheelchair and you guys help me see things from her perspective. Her and I have a vlog too. Great job Mr. Cameraman! That device is handy! LOVE it.
Thanks for this video! This is exactly the video I was looking for on RUclips. I have the first Smart Drive that came out. The max speed that it could go was 5 mph. That’s fast. I would accidentally take off many times. It also did have many faults, but I really liked it because I didn’t know there was anything else around. I’ve run into many walls that way. I’m excited to learn about the new device.
Thanks for the comparison of these two options. I currently use the first version of the Bluetooth SmartDrive and it's definitely in need of a replacement. I was wondering what you (or anyone else here) can tell me about the maintenance on SMOOV. I typically need to purchase/install a SmartDrive roller replacement kit about every 3-4 months. That adds up quickly. What is your experience regarding the long-term maintenance of these two modules?
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! So far I have not had to do any maintenance with the SMOOV, so I am pretty happy with that! The SmartDrive on the other hand, I went through multiple wristbands within a year or so, I really love the SMOOV. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you for the comparative review. I have the first version of the SmartDrive, with the separate battery. If you push your chair manually with the SMOOV, without it adding assistance, how much do you feel weight, drag, etc. and how does that compare with the SmartDrive?
Hi Brian, thanks for stopping by! Although SMOOV is a little heavier than SmartDrive, the weight and drag is not too bad. I notice more weight when I am trying to push myself on carpet and when I am trying to move myself backwards. I hope this answers your question, but reply back if you have anymore!
Hi Austin, To my knowledge, the app for the mx2 is not yet available on the Apple Watch. I’ve been saying they needed to do this all along. Thanks for watching!
I LOVE the SMOOV. I zoom around with it! I have also increased the speeds since the filming of this video. I hope your insurance company approves it for you!

My smart drive has a rotary controller. I like the physical control over the smacking on something to make it work or stop working.
I agree!
Thanks for watching!

I have the older generation startdrive than yours. I use it in Vegas and tradeshows and Halloween with the kids. New subscriber here.
Thank you sooo much. I'm currently in the process of choosing.
Best of luck!
Interesting Video. Keep it up! Wishing you all the best.

Can I use my apple watch with this I got the SmartDrive mx2 but I don't like the watch it came with...
Thank you :)
Hi Austin,
To my knowledge, the app for the mx2 is not yet available on the Apple Watch. I’ve been saying they needed to do this all along.
Thanks for watching!
Can you still hand push backwards?
Yes, you can.
How do you like it after a couple of months of using it. I’m getting one soon if my insurance covers it

@@RoyJonesOnWheels me too I really need it I’m to weak to move myself far distance so it would be nice especially for safety reason
