- Watch the official trailer for #Thoroughbreds, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Olivia Cooke and Anton Yelchin.
Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily's contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another's most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.

"I have a perfectly healthy brain. It just doesn't contain feelings. And that doesn't necessarily make me a bad person. It just means I have to work a little harder than everybody else to be good"
Love the brilliance of this masterpiece
Shitiest movie i have seen in the last 2 years... lost my time.
Absolutely loved the movie
@@Cyprus_Is_Greek dude, you're replying with this to every single comment. I don't know if you're just desperate to pick a fight but your opinion is not that important and no on cares.
@@Cyprus_Is_Greek Oh dear...
If that's a masterpiece then what on Earth could possibly make you happy or would you simply be the same as the one that you're talking about
RIP Anton. Great actor who passed way too soon.
RyRyTerrify we know he passed okay?
RyRyTerrify holy shit, I didn't even recognize him that's awesome.
RyRyTerrify man i'm hurt. I wish he was still here. To see this come out and come to the premiere .
It's so eerie.
RyRyTerrify how old was he
a classic story of how no one is 100% sane and no one is 100% a psychopath...
Shitiest movie i have seen in the last 2 years... lost my time.
@@Cyprus_Is_Greek cool story bro
dont be such a pus
@@Cyprus_Is_Greek Lol u lyin!! It's actually good!!
@@Cyprus_Is_Greek agreed. I was expecting it to be good but the plot was blergh. The ending was okay
The acting in this movie is just so perfect. I love both these actresses so much, it was so cool seeing them interact in this film with their opposite character personalities. definitely a unique watch,
Yeah they're shallow bitches... simple lol 🤔
I do not know what it is about Anya, but she totally captivates me. She has such a unique look. And her acting style is very subtle. Though not entirely impressed with some of her project choices, as long as she's in it, I just have to see it. I do appreciate how she favors more "indie"-type roles. No other actor in history has had this power over me. As an entertainer myself, I would be honored to be cast with her in some future project.
I do, too. I was just tryin' to be classy and sugar-coat how I really feel! Speakin' of a load on the face, my fave shot is what I call the "Death Star shot": up the nostrils! Try it sometime...you feel like you've won something, or at least...destroyed the Death Star.
Entertain these balls. You ain't ever gonna work with her in a project. Now come back to the sense of reality that snorting up shots is, and will be the only best accomplishment you've ever achieved..jk.
The girl from "me, Earl, and the dying girl" and the girl from "split." Yassssss
I just know her as the girl from Bates Motel and also from that shit movie Ouija

Olivia was the girl from Bates Motel, first. And she was lovely in that. You should check it out.

I saw it and loved it, but it definitely is NOT a "black comedy". It's a very dark and disturbing movie, which is why I love it so much. I hate when trailers try to misrepresent films! Oh, and if anyone is wondering, the version of Ave Maria in this film is sung by Barbara Bonney. Now, GO WATCH THIS MOVIE! But don't expect to laugh. I didn't speak for 20 minutes after I left the theater; it has THAT kind of impact on you.
It seems a bit funny from the trailer. If it is funny & also dark & disturbing, then that is the definition of a dark comedy. Black comedies make light of taboo subject matter.
Maybe I just have a morbid sense of humour, but I thought the movie was hilarious. So yes, I think promoting it as a black comedy is fine.
Yes, agreed with Luna Sea. Nice nickname by the way.

nice one!

Am I the only one who didn't even get the movie?I watched and I didn't understand anything. It was boring. Can someone please explain the whole movie.
The last line in the movie made me think two things...#1) Lily is a SMART AND BAD ASS BITCH LOL! From the beginning, the movie audience is tricked to believe that Amanda is way smarter and more clever than sweet less abrasive Lily but Lily was actually smarter than her friend, Amanda. She used her friend's weakness of being unemotional and psychopathic to get what she wanted in the very end. In fact, the last line showed me that sometimes mental disorders can sometimes maybe serve as a "gateway" to other mental disorders. Lily started off as narcissistic and ended up becoming unemotional and sociopathic/psychopathic or was Lily all these things all along but never diagnosed..hmmm..makes you wonder. The last line showed that she couldnt care less about how her friend was doing and she was outsmarting Amanda all along. Growing up, we are always taught that someone having too much emotion is weak but in actuality Lily's undiagnosed narcissicism and "emotional oversensitivity" prevailed over someone who lacked emotion. People always think that those without emotions are stronger than others because they dont make rash decisions based on emotions but the movie shows that being unemotional can prove itself to be detrimental and consequential as well #2.) We as a watcher was supposed to think that the stepdad and drug dealer were bad guys because of their "external packaging"...the obvious jerk "d-bag" stepdad and obvious sexual deviant drug dealer selling to minors and there was definitely some underlining sexual tension there intended for us as a viewer to assume that the stepdad could have been attempting inappropriate physical/sexual behavior towards the step daughter. However, but the point in which I began to change my thoughts about the stepdad was the scene in which he said that Lily treat people like they "work for her...like a maid or housekeeper" and then I began to see some truth in his statements. The drug dealer was all bark and no bite which was evident at the house party when he got punched and didnt even fight back but also the bath scene when he discovered his head injury. Both characters appeared to be tough on the outside in their "external packaging". The fact that Lily even contemplated about drugging her friend just to frame her for the killing was enough for me to realize even more so what this movie is all about. It doesnt matter to me that Lily tried to stop her friend from finishing the drink. Lily was already involved in trying to blackmail the drug dealer. The fact that she even had the thought to frame her friend as well was enough the validate the earlier statements made by her stepdad. Things that externally appear sweet and innocent are sometimes more dangerous than the obvious jerk/dbag/drug dealer that wrapped up in the wrong "external package". Both girls suffered from a slightly different mental disorders which in a weird way caused them to use or expose the other's weakness throughout the movie. Lily was presented to us as this "pristine perfect beautiful girl" who is harmless but in actuality she was the most dangerous character in the movie. Things that come in pretty and flawless external packages can actually do more harm than something thats obviously is unpolished and flawed and abrasive like Amanda. For example, when we were kids and went "trick or treating" we were taught to always throw away the candy that had bad packaging because there is risk that what was inside the packaging was harmful. What we werent necessarily taught is that candy with untampered undamaged external packaging could still conceal something harmful on the inside. In fact, kids would quickly eat the candy that "appeared" to be flawless and unharmful from the outside packaging. However, if someone wanted to really do harm they would find a way to tamper whats inside the packages without causing harm to the packaging itself, right? Lily was a narcissistic but not diagnosed. She wanted to always have her way and her narcissicism made her do whatever it took to get her way...even if that meant framing her unemotional psychopathic friend to kill her jerkish but not evil stepdad. Amanda's also suffered from narcisscism because she sometimes thought she was three steps ahead of everyone. Amanda walked around with ego and thought she was so clever and more observant than others but her egotism/ narcissicism caused her not to realize that the sweet innocent seemingly naive Lily was six steps ahead of everyone including Amanda herself. To me, this movie causes us to think who could prevail more in life..a Sociopath like Lily or Psychopath like Amanda. One is born with it and the other learns the behavior from the environment as means of survival.
I'm late to this. But this a great and thorough analysis. Its a gem of a movie and you did explain a lot of things I missed. Thanks for this!
This is a really great analysis and I appreciate all of the effort you put into this! Well done and very well articulated
i think the word "sociopath" would've summarized this short film journal.
Thank you so much for this.
Great analysis!
RIP Anton Yelchin. I miss you.
In the 2020 sequel, Anya's character becomes a chess champion.
haha...nailed that one
Anya is more than beautiful, she's hypnotizing in a way.
That is exactly how I feel!

Anya Taylor Joy is really pretty. From now on, if she is in a movie, I am immediately interested.
I know--right?!
She's a little galaxy of her own so, it really doesn't matter what she looks like.
Pretty much anything she's in ends up being good.
Anya Taylor joy is beautifully hypnotic. One of the coolest actresses ever

I love you0
Shut up and take my money.
One of the best endings i've seen so far, definitely recommend watching this movie!
I just caught it on cable. I loved it. It was deliciously sinful and different. I didn't find it funny but I was enthralled. The 3 perplexing questions in the first 15 minutes were; How Amanda could read Lily so easily?, Who was Amanda imitating to pass for normal?, the 3rd one will be kept secret (obvious to those observant to key plot points). The answers don't come till the final scene of the movie. That is what makes it this movie so exceptional. There is a subtext only decipherable to the observant. Great Movie!
rarely do we get good stories, this looks like one of'em.
Rigo Valencia 6hrhrhrhra

original stories to be exact
Ikr. Also I dont agree with the people whining that it's not the 90s anymore, modern horror/thriller films have been fucking awesome
This and the neon demon both fucking blew me away and have taken film into a realm I have never seen before.
One of the most underrated movies ever
Amazing movie. So young and so very talented. RIP Anton. This was the best movie you did. I hope you got to see some of it, even if still in final production. You were perfect.
The background singing until 5 seconds in and from 1.20 sounds just like Tanya Tagaq! I love the way it’s used
Glade Yes! It’s from Björk’s song Ancestors
Peter Baird no it’s not, it’s A Tribe Called Red featuring Tanya Tagaq, “Sila”
dfspats Sorry, I didn’t realize. Tanya Tagaq has been featured in a Björk song called Ancestors and she must have used similar vocalizations. I thought this might have been a remix. My mistake.
song is here:
A Trible Called Red - SILA Ft.Tanya Tagaq
Great casting and an interesting concept! Whoever made this film should be proud.
This trailer introduced me to “A Tribe Called Red” and I am forever indebted
Once I saw the trailer I KNEW I WAS ALREADY GONNA LOVE THIS MOVIE
Oh man, there's only one more posthumous Anton Yelchin film after this. Then it'll feel like he's really gone, he was such an amazing actor. I guess we will always have his films.
Saw this movie on a rainy, dreary day using my boxxy software and it fit the day perfectly.
is this an original film? (like not an adaptation or anything) because that’s a rarity these days...i love it
Okay. I'm interested. This looks wild and unpredictable.
It is. Go watch it.
this looks very interesting! I love movies that have strange tones to them because you never know what to expect
im definitely intrigued
This film is incredbily entertaining and intriguing from beginning to end. Saw this on a rainy, dreary day using boxxy software, and it fit the day perfectly.

It is.
No! It isn't!
There never was and will never be an actor with a bigger spirit or heart and dedication to his craft than Anton
I actually thought the trailer was bad but for a movie this awesome and unique, I don't know what kind of trailer it needs either.
RIP Anton :(
This movie was really good, i highly recommend. Great acting and script. I did not see where it was going the whole time.
Finally, another posthumous performance by Anton Yelchin.
*Chemotherapy.*
*(Gulp)*
do you guys know what sound effects are in the background
I loved this soo much. Terrific actors. Great writing. What more could you have asked for.

This looks like it'll easily become my new favorite movie. Top 5 certainly.

I watched the trailer after the movie and I tell you, the trailer is equally interesting as the movie itself.
I want to see this movie soooooo bad!! I can’t wait!
my heart was not ready to see him. I cried.
this is one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen wtf
Okay I see heathers in the review. I’m watching it now
I totally forgot about this movie and randomly googled what I could remember from this trailer “two girls stepdad movie 2018” and I found exactly what I was looking for.
I’m glad I finally saw this, I’d think about it from time to time because it looked good, turns out, I was right.
Focus features & A24 movies bring out some amazing thrillers!
i just watch it. It was great. All cast were amazing but the real gem was Anton. Too bad he passed away so young. He could be a legend.
I really really loved it but found that they took a bit too long for scenes and could have sped things up w bit.
Geese, the last thing I want to think of is Anton Yelchin bleeding out.
Yes, but it's a little hard for me to watch since he did die crushed between his jeep and a concrete pillar.
Also, since you don't like Geese....
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.
SHIT SHIT SHIT, HOLY SHIT!!!
CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAAAAAP!!!
Shame cars can't go to jail.
they can go to the impound
@mmwpro63 Geese are waterfowl. I think you were looking for the expression "jeez" hence the confusion
Just finished watching.
Great movie great ending.
Thank you director cast n crew.
What is this music? I can't find it anywhere.
Meera Sathyadas the breathing sounds are from a song by Björk called Ancestors
Meera Sathyadas The song is called SILA by A Tribe Called Red feat. Tanya Tagaq who makes punk music incorporating Inuit throat singing.
Anyone know what song this is?
"Anyway..."
Ohhh this is gonna be good!
I never get bored watching this trailer. The movie is cool.
my heart hurts because he passed away, I almost thought it was a lie when i saw the trailer

0:42 The Queen's Gambit
she's right, the only thing worse than being incompetent, or being unkind, or being evil is being indecisive!
It's online now
This is already a classic.
Where's the movie?!
One of the best movies I've seen lately. Twisted. Great cast, great acting.
how did I never heard of this in my life!!
just saw on hbo. a lil' slow, but liked the actresses interaction. hope to see Olivia on screen more.
Can someone PLEASE explain why I see Anton Yelchin?! I thought he was dead! I actually cried for him.
5 years old!
I remember seeing it with my older sister
The movie is divided into chapters showing the progression of their lives going from one thing to the next
Think of it as 'American Psycho' meets 'Heathers'
Takes the issues of the young and privileged turning them into something violent
The girls here are incapable of empathy yet the viewing is weird, funny and at times thought-provoking with plenty of sharp dialogue
Serves as an unsettling character study of potential psychopaths with a stage play presence
Plus it doesn't have to provide easy answers
These girls bring out each other's worst qualities the more time they spend together realizing that they are thoroughbred humans in a world that doesn't raise them the right way
Lily in particular you can see her slowly losing herself with each moment almost to the breaking point
Even though they were bred from a long line of the best blood relatives they still have their own issues to work out albeit in a violent and unforgiving capacity yet they have the uncommon strength and endurance to survive it
All of it slowly builds up to a final shot that'll leave you somewhat satisfied in a twisted sense
Cooke and Joy are brilliant in this with smooth direction by Corey Finley
i love the antagonist here from anton to anya..and the dying girl..u know what i mean...
and actually the movie was great..i recommend it..
Loved it saw it last night!!!!
wow both of these actresses have come so far
can't wait to watch this weekend !
