- I've gotten a couple questions recently about how I create my thumbnails and tips for any small youtubers trying to make a RUclips custom thumbnail. I finally decided to pull the plug and start a channel like I have talked about doing for years. Went out and bought myself a Mac and have spent two days watching all of the videos I possibly can to learn how to not only work a MacBook but how to make and edit videos. Last year while I was pregnant I took a couple of video clips so I'm really just working on those right now to try to get the hang of it all. Thank you so much for making and posting all of these videos! Out of everyone else that posts about how to edit and make things you make it easy to understand. I appreciate it so so so much!

I've found finding a thumbnail style is still a bit of a holy grail to me, and it's great to hear your ideas! :) Also, thanks for mentioning the text outline in Canva- I spent ages trying to get the outline and never thought of that! I went for trying to have bolded text behind slightly smaller unbolded text but never thought it looked all that good lol.

Love these tips! I use pic monkey & VSCO for editing the photos and Canva for the actual thumbnails.

You can change the aspect ratio of your photos on your M50. Use 16:9 for thumbnails :-)

Your videos have been SO helpful for me, as I'm in the planning phase of starting my channel!! I don't know if anyone else has already commented this but it's SUPER easy to "fill" in the font with white in your thumbnail, if you use the "paintbrush" app on a Mac. You just download your thumbnail w/a transparent background with the black letters outlined, then you use the "paint bucket" tool to fill in each letter with white :-)
