I started vlogging when I was 14 years old because I really wanted to be a vlogger so badly and then my classmates made fun of me, so I stopped. Not just because of that, it's because I can't think of any content that I am comfortable with LOL or I haven't chosen my niche yet. But now that I am 17, I can tell that starting vlogging helps me be better in editing, planning, and etc., especially when creating videos at school. Even though I stopped not uploading to RUclips anymore, I realized that it really helps me a lot in terms of experience, editing style, and what not to do and should do in making videos. Maybe soon, I will create videos again connected to my plans in my mind because this is one of my teenage dreams.

Make videos as long as they need to be. If you can get your point across in 5 minutes, why add an extra 5 minutes of fluff that doesn't add any value. Keep it as concise as possible and it'll give so much more value to your audience, and they will probably appreciate you more for it. If it needs to be 15 mins long, make it 15 mins, it doesn't matter how long you need to say what you have to say, just don't make it longer than it needs to be.

12:02 YESSS you are SPOT ON! I made a video (12 Air Fryer Mistakes) in December... and what is incredible is that I actually almost DIDN'T make the video because "air fryer mistakes" isn't something anyone even searches for. But I decided to just move forward with it because I was out of time to develop another idea and stay on my posting schedule. Seriously, 2 weeks after I published that video, YT picked it up and it's my most popular vid and literally exploded my channel! I am sooo grateful I didn't let that little voice that was saying "no one is going to search for that" stop my from moving forward with my idea! (before I exploded, I was only getting search traffic - and had just barely monetized in Oct). Anyway... just wanted to be another witness that YOU SPEAK TRUTH GIRL! xoxo

Great tips! My biggest tip is to avoid trying to be perfect. Your main focus when starting should be to focus on pushing out content consistently then as you grow you can continue to learn how to improve your content and channel to make it better. I see so many people fail to start because they think their content is not good enough. My video with the most views about 8,000 is just me sitting in a hotel room with bad lighting and bad audio retelling the story of how I had just been denied entry onto a flight to Dubai due to an expired COVID test. Long story short people didn’t care about fancy editing or production value they connected with me and my story.

Hi Cathrin...I appreciate you sharing this video. I’ve been following you since The Content Bug (I’ve been a silent subscriber...watching, liking but not commenting). I must say that it’s amazing to see how you’ve blossomed over the years. I love how you approached your channel rebrand and took us original subbies along with you the whole entire way. Your transparency draws us in (well...speaking for me, it drew me and keeps me watching). I normally don’t comment but I just wanted to share how inspiring it to see much your channel has grown. Congratulations on your RUclips success!! Thank you for what you do and the raw guidance you share with us! Greatly appreciated. 💞

The other day, my journaling app surfaced an entry I wrote four years ago. I was writing about preparing for my first RUclips video:
"...I'm looking forward to talking to a camera. If I can nail this, then it will give me some confidence. I really want to do this!"
I wrote that in October 2017.
I didn't publish the video until April 2018.
Looking back, I realize that fear caused me to lose six months of growth.
Now that I've been producing videos weekly for over a year, I see the true impact of that decision from 2017. I would be exponentially further in my RUclips journey now if I didn't let fear get the better of me. There's so much serendipity that was lost because I was afraid of filming myself on camera.
Making a RUclips video is scary.
Being on camera isn't a skill that comes naturally to most people. Actually publishing a video of yourself to the internet is even more uncomfortable. But it's that feeling of uncomfort that pushes us to do the things we need to do.
Being uncomfortable is a sign that we're doing something right.
Growth doesn't happen by doing the same actions over and over again. It happens by executing on ideas that make us a little afraid. It happens by challenging ourselves repeatedly, until we can look back and see how far we've come.
Being afraid is something we should seek.
But letting fear stop us from executing is something we should avoid at all costs.

"Fear caused me to lose six months of growth" is such a great mindset and great way to look at starting a new journey. I had a professor once say "If you're anxious about something, you're about to grow." And it's stuck with me for years now. Best of luck as you continue your RUclips journey!

"No one is you and that is your super power!" That is such a powerful statement right there. We try so hard to copy, impress or be like other people that we forget that our uniqueness and individuality makes us special.
