    in addition to my comments below, after seeing Ry play Live last night, I am happy to report that despite being 71 years old his voice has lost none of its power, range or nuance and his singing was terrific.

    Thank you so much for this. I was there for my fourth & likely last time seeing this great Cooder White Skaggs "Songs for the Good People" tour. Watching this again brought tears to my eyes, but now I can relive it over & over again. I am forever in your debt. This song, titled "You Must Unload," was written by West Virginian, Blind Alfred Reed circa 1927.

    You can be poor. Or, you might be wealthy.. Only believe in Jesus Christ. Being poor does not make one more holy than another. And, being rich does not as well. Arrogance makes both the poor and rich to be poor in grace and truth. Be rich in the Word by grace. If God wants you to be wealthy? You will become happy and content if you grow in grace and knowledge. Be rich in grace and the Word, and God will make those who have not much in material wealth to be rich in happiness and contentment. God saves all walks of life. Some here seem to think God only loves poor people. A man with millions who neglects growing in grace and truth is a poor and wretched believer. And, the same applies for anyone who is not wealthy, but is rich in self righteous arrogance. Become wealthy in the treasures to be found in Christ. Bitterness and bigotry (what I sense with some here) means they are poor-poor. Not wealthy-poor. Not being wealthy in Christ.
    The Apostle Paul said the following about where our true wealth is to be found, for both those having material wealth, or not.
    My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may
    have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery
    of God, namely, Christ, *in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."* Colossians 2:2-3
    Become wealthy in Christ. Then bitterness will have no place in your life. Let those who are what they are be. They will answer to the Lord. Jealousy is a test for believers. Bitterness and foul language is not from the Spirit.

  • @genez429
    @genez429 5 лет назад +1

    We get to heaven by believing in Jesus Christ. After that takes place? Some believers will be ostentatious and wealthy.... and they will get to heaven even if they wear diamond encrusted high heels. For we see in the Bible a few examples of how Mr. Cooder is being judgmental according to human standards, not God's. For the church of Corinth consisted of filthy rich members. The same can be said for the church in Laodicea. All filthy rich. Yes, both John and Paul had their complaints about them. But, never were these believers threatened with the type of self righteous legalism proclaimed by Mr.Cooder. What we need to become aware of is that believers can lose eternal blessings and rewards. But, never lose their salvation. Those who think we can? They see the Cross as something Jesus did as a publicity stunt. This kind of legalism by Ry cheapens the Blood of Christ. It bothers some to think that ostentatious believers feel proud to think they are better than others, like Mr. Cooder does with his misplaced intention. Human love is inferior to God's infinite love. God saves sinners. Not all sinners who get saved want to change much. But they are saved. To say they must get rid of their diamonds to get to heaven mocks the blood of Christ.

      oh for the love of. precious few early christians shared your comically defensive stance about wealth. even monastic orders wouldn't use this logic when discussing sale of goods they produced. no respectable historian (read: not evangelical apologists) would disagree at this point. and this song was written by a poor blind singer who became a lay methodist preacher. we get it though-you think some things in this world are beyond looking at from the perspective of the trod-upon man.

    I did not know Ry was a pharisee. We are saved by grace. Not by works. A believer can live like he were an unbeliever and still be welcomed into heaven because he believed in Jesus. Yet? Those who "unload?" And, think their works of denial can save them? Well?... Ry had it backwards with this one. But, he sure knew what his audience wanted to hear. And, they did. That's what many preachers do. Tell the people what they want to hear. Not, what they need to hear. I am pretty sure Ry had a heart for Jesus. He'll be there if he truly did. We all make mistakes. That is why the Bible must be correctly understood. Its is there to show us what those mistakes are. We all make em. What he should have said is that those who do not unload can not glorify the One who saved them. They were still saved by grace.
    James 2
    My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.
    2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man
    in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes
    and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor
    by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
    5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the
    world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6 But you have
    dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging
    you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?"
    The believers who act like the rich, or power hungry, unbeliever? They still are saved. They have failed to become transformed
    because of their desire for sin. They are cowards. But, if at some point in their life they believed in Jesus? They are saved. Being lousy examples of a believer. But... we are saved by grace. Not works. Those who refuse to live by the Spirit do not glorify Christ.
    If we say we can be saved by works? Then Jesus did not have to die on the Cross. Works will then save us.

      You have some aweful theology. God saves some that they might be conformed to the image of His son. He who began a good work will complete it. He WILL discipline His own.
      Not everyone who says to me "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. -Jesus

    • @genez429
      @genez429 5 лет назад +1

      @@jamesjorgensen7608 Don't confuse God's desire and what believers will give in return. You make it sound like all who believe will receive full blessings. The Bible teaches that believers will produce wood, hay and stubble... and as a result will be denied their eternal rewards that God desires to give. Please read 1 Corinthians 3:11-15. Some will only be saved because they believed at one point in time. All their empty human-concept works will be burned. Here's verse 14...
      14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames."
      Some will have nothing to show for their salvation (other than believing in Christ) because they lived according to human good concepts after becoming saved. Church programs and legalism are real killers of the spiritual life. So is self righteousness. Not going to argue with you.

      @@jamesjorgensen7608 Its "Arminianism." I have no idea what got you there to think that. You can't figure me out. Stop guessing and maybe ask questions. Romans 8 and 9 was written to *mature* believers. Paul was an excellent teacher and capable to bring believers into fullness in Christ. Not like the 'preacher boys' today. too few know what they are doing. And, those who don't, criticize the ones who do.
      12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation-but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
      Paul warned believers NOT to walk after the flesh. Why? Because believers can!

    • @jamesjorgensen7608
      @jamesjorgensen7608 5 лет назад

      @@genez429 so why would you think that someone who walks after the flesh is a believer? There's no such thing as a carnal Christian. If God chose you He will do a work in you. He is sovereign over sanctification just as He is sovereign over justification. He is the Living God who spoke things into existence. Who can resist him?
