I bought a knockoff outboard from China, BRAND NEW, for only $938 off of Alibaba! It's clearly a copy of the Yamaha 9.9hp engine, but this is calleb a Yamabisi. The Yamaha has the Yamabisi beat in quality, features, warranty, and instructions. The Yamabisi has the Yamaha beat in price, and that's it. There are a couple of concerns we have with the Yamabisi, but we have to take it out on the water and see if it's any good before we decide whether it's worth it or not.

the stalling iv seen in other videos its the fuel line being too thin ;D
16 seconds in and I'm dying ... Yamabisi hahahahaa
Luke gonna be making some Ford freakin' ranger videos for sure!!
Please keep us updated on how well the yamabisi runs. Also you should do an endurance test. Yamaha vs Yamabisi so we get a better idea of the differences between them
That yamabisi looks like it’s the model Yamaha 9.9 that you could turn into a 15hp with a simple carb and prop swap.
Seen some guy dumping a tanker of diesel in a pond in your hometown luke on a video
I have a high output, long shaft Honda 9.9 from 2001. it pushes my 30ft sailboat. a year ago the sailboat sank and sat on the river bed bottom for 4 or 5 days. after draining the engine and changing fluids, it still runs perfectly. Great motor.
I bought a clone of the Yamaha 6hp from a similar vendor on Aliexpress, and it's been fantastic. I paid a total of under $700 delivered and it's worked great on my sailboat dinghy for a year now.
So luke has to get in touch with cleetus for the next danger ranger cause that would be such an incredible collaboration. That one travis guy you hang out with normally races in cleetus event 🎉
"THAT ONE TRAVIS GUY" LMFAO YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.... that one guy is a fucking motorsports GOD... A LITERAL WALKING LEGEND.
Reading the Yamibushi owners manual was RUclips gold. I am still laughing.
Tolerances of manufacture and the quality of the steel and aluminum in the crankshaft, pistons, rods and bearings will be the difference that will soon become very evident.
China has a billion people. do you think they can't build a simple boat motor? India and China are going to crush us while we defund education under t.dump
If a guy is to use one of the little Yamabisi 9.9’s for commercial use, yeah it won’t last as long I’m sure. But for the average Joe who just slaps one of these little 9.9’s on a jon boat to fish 10hp limit lakes it’ll last a life time.
@@chevyon37s They way it was idling and having to keep recranking the fuel system will be clogged up in three weeks of non use. I work on them everyday for a living. I know shitty outboards.....cut my teeth on Force !
That is exactly right…having owned mercury, tohatsu, Johnson, and Yamaha outboards, I can tell you that the metals/alloys used on a Yamaha are a step above the rest.
SKF bearings and seals are now made in China, SKF is generally accepted as the best in the world, originally made in Sweden, who produce the best steel on the planet due to the ore quality and water,
Glad to hear about the purple fuzzy dice and the good news that came along with them.
Luke, beautiful video. I've been boating for over 40 years, sail, power, dinghy's, etc. Appreciate your candid review of the "Yama-bishee", and as expected, the quality, reliability is you get what you pay for. You're so candid, funny, and true-to-life, always appreciate your channel. Carry on.
Wow, I'm just really Surprised it runs that well for the money 💰 thank you for taking me along for the ride, taking good care of it I know you will do, So it last you long time, I'm just impressed the way engine runs AAA I got see your next video 😊
That 'new' truck - Now I'll really recognize you when we pass on the road!
Congrats on the dream truck Chevy Honda Ford Ranger
A "CE certification" refers to a marking on a product that indicates it meets European Union (EU) safety, health, and environmental protection requirements, allowing it to be freely sold within the European Economic Area (EEA), with "CE" standing for "Conformité Européenne" (French for "European Conformity").
or China exportto make it look like it is CE
Unfortunately it means nothing when it comes to Chinese goods. They regularly submit schematics of a compliant design and upon approval strip the actual production design to bare bones and manufacture those under the approval. You are safer considering it to mean: Chinese Export, Crap Emporium, etc
The Chinese don’t care if it actually meets CE certification, they’ll throw a “CE” sticker on anyway
@@jimklinkhamer4497 there is no Chine Export Brand or Organisation wo fakes or uses the CE Logo. Its an Urban Myth it is Chines Export.
(same as Chinese Steel is Chinesium^)
There was and probably ist CE Logo Prints who are not in the right proportion or Spacing but thats nothing more as lazyness or someone doens not read the verry specific instructions how the CE should look.
CE China Empire
That ranger is a Perfect crabbers truck!
Those last forever and there are a MILLION around for parts.
Just make sure you hose it down with fresh water to combat rust ! Especially the undercarriage. I don't know if they use Road Salt up there, but I would keep it rinsed anyway ! Actually, he should put it up on a lift once a year and pump can spray the whole bottom with Kerosene. Then let it dry ! An once of prevention, is more than worth it ! I have 150,000 on the one I'm driving now. It's a 2001 4.0L I sold my last one a few years ago. It was a 92 with that Vulcan V-6 355,000 miles. Never had the heads off. The guy is still driving it. It's now a farm truck.
lol I could not imagine showing up at the ramp with the “Bisi” and keep a straight face 😂
Your previously enjoyed Ranger makes me miss my 94 Ranger XLT super cab with the 4.0 L V6 5 Speed manual . She was a beast for her time, 2 tone red with silver rockers. Memories were made in that truck.
These companies also delay shipments just enough so that you are generally outside the time frame where you can request a charge-back from your cc company. Makes trying to get a refund infinitely more difficult.
your buying from china you shouldn't expect a refund😆
@@firstlightflicks indeed
@luke McFadden I drag race outboard and we run non-ratcheting lower units so the prop still spins if motor locks up. That clicking sound when you let off sounds just like that when the prop is spinning faster than the motor. You can test by putting gearcase in foward gear and turn the prop backwards. The prop will "rachet" just like a rachet does.
The video/audio quality of this video seems way better than usual.
@boat busters has done a couple of videos on the Yamabisi outboard. Seems he found that a Tohatsu outboard has more in common with the Yamabisi, and he did an episode on changing out readily available parts in the US.
I was gonna say this 😂
@@Chalz108ditto, funny to see the crossover between these two channels 😂
Also worth mentioning, the fuel line was junk, replace it.
MY GUY
Well tohatsu makes mercury’s small outboards. Soooooo…..
@BoatBusters you made it big. He beat me to it.
Alibaba sells a 2 stroke 25 hp yamaha with red Enduro decal on each side
I know that truck, I ain't no stranger, that right there's a honda chevy ford ranger
Good that you didn’t use premium. I enjoy your humor Luke, stay safe.
Technical writers are those who produce product directions that often become hilarious when translated into other languages.
Luke Pitot Tube were each 1" of fountain height = 1 knot! Idle in gear...7" =7 knots. Full throttle 22" fountain(geyser) = 22 knots!
"That good American air" priceless!😂
Hey Capt. Luke, that Yamabishi is a Tohatsu clone, and the parts are interchangeable.
Luke you never went wrong buying that ranger I’ve got one I’ve had 13 years well over 3 hundred thousand on it still runs like a new one easy to work on and cheap parts and will run for ever
The instructions ate hilarious😂😂😂
Figgs N Ratton had me rollin
Yamabisi should have a logo that is 3 crossed spoons just like Yamahas crossed forks.
Chopsticks
Different fork lol
It’s awesome how the instructions sound threatening 😂😂
Just to help out if someone else hasn't already stated, this motor commonly arrives with a the carb mixture screw set too lean. Screw it out 1 or 2 turns and you should be in business. I had to figure it out the hard way as well.
Luke, you are a joy to watch on you tube your energy and family make your channel complete good job on your content and making your videos enthusiastic look forward to watching more!
Yamabisi check under the starter mount and look at the flywheel and see if it has a starter gear on the flywheel if it goes it can be converted to electric start.
10:20
Danger danger
Its a stranger ranger 🤣
Actually, if you’re ever going to try to fix that, it is an exact copy of a Tohatsu motor and the parts are almost identical
Luke, try pulling the plug on the boat while it's up on plane to get rid of the water in the bilge. Since the boat is up on plane, the transom is completely out of the water, and when you pull the plug to the bilge all the water will run out and then just reinstall the plug once it's all gone. You probably won't believe me but just try it. We used to do it all the time on my family's old boat because it had a very small leak in the front of the haul.
That's correct... I got some leaks in my boat... and I always pull the plug when underway...to keep the bilge dry!
We definitely need reliability durability videos .Just ordered four for my new center console😂😂
I have a 8hp 4 stroke from 2004 that I got with my sailboat, that thing still runs quietly and works great for 20+ years old and it does look very similar to this yamabisi
Lol you should start doing videos in the owners manual text😂. You are my favorite Asian. Keep up the boat rebuild vids excited to see it in use.
Redneck Asian
Just a heads up, it is much closer to a Tohatsu motor than a Yamaha. You will find Tohatsu parts will fit it just fine, but Yamaha not so much.
edit: also, the only difference between the 9.9 and the 15hp is the carburetor. If you buy a 15hp carb you can upgrade it.
came to say the same. my understanding is that carbs and coils are interchangeable (though slightly different non-critical dimensions) with the tohatsu.
I changed my 5 HP Coleman outboard to an 8 HP with an $8 part! 😁
I was curious if the return spring could be installed or if he could add in the electric starter
100%
Tohatsu builds every brand outboard 25 hp and under if I recall correctly.
And most of the parts are Mitsubishi parts
@@harlowecustommicrogreens he would just need to run battery cables and a starter button to a Tohatsu starter.
Not the YamaBussy outboard 😂
😂
Dude I’ve never seen a fella go through trucks like you 😂 every video I watch you’re in a different truck
Make two matching mini boats, basic AF ones from ply and a bit of epoxy and glass and then test the boats and motors vs each other.
I love this dudes sense of humor !
First it said don't run full throttle during break in 😂😂😂
Here with ya Luke, right hand on the tiller sitting on port side
NOOOOOO
“Maybe it thinks it’s a 2 stroke” 😂😂😂
Man, I love my 15hp 2015 Yamaha 2-stroke (as with motocross bikes, 2-smoke for life baby!!!)
Sometimes a bit of torque on the shaft is what the doctor ordered !!! 😂😂😂
Called " tennis elbow" when it free spins on the shaft.
31:55 You lost a peice on your motor......floating away!!!
Big big plus for buying a manual transmission truck ❤❤❤. It is very sad that manual transmission car are becoming rare in the US.
I run a tiller the same way you do. My dad always yells at me for that 😅
Somehow you make this inside of a Danger Ranger look huge. I thought it was a small child driving a Bronco or 250. 😂
Lmfao. A lil rooster tail inside the skiff.😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"yup, still leaking"😂😂
Instead of that old truck. Should have gone a new Forbabishi !
The carbed Yamaha 9.9 is an amazing little engine for tenders.
Good to see you doing okay 👍
You break things in like me, drive it like you stole it break in complete✅🤣
It takes over 2 months because most CC have a 60-90 day chargeback window
4:48 funniest thing,, the little R thats represents "registered trademark" & now your talking & laughing about it as im typing this!! 😅😅😅
There is a $10 gasket on the rear of that Ranger transmission that has a tendency to blow out. When it does, it dumps the transmission fluid on the exhaust. This causes a fire and your truck will BURN DOWN.
Ask me how I know.
There is still a Ranger sized burn mark along I-295 near Gardener, Maine exit where mine burned. That was 3 years ago.......
OK< I will ask, How do you know?😁
He's a firefighter, I bet. Or maybe a certified ranger mechanic. Or possibly clairvoyant.
You need to add a big pack of bubble gum, like Bubblicious or Bubble Yum to your Safety Throw Bag to fix the leaks with...lol
Its the shift dogs ratcheting when you let off the throttle.
what you have there my friend is a copy of the previous model of Yamaha 9.9. This is why the power head looks different to the original. The Yamabisi has also bigger displacement and can most likely be tuned up to 15 HP just by changing the carburator to a one from Yamaha 15 Hp, previous model ...
The hole in the boat is soaking the yamabisi with salt water 😂
All part of the Yamabisi's durability test haha
It’s brackish. It’ll be fine
Jeez this was so funny. Well done. Thanks for testing that motor.
“ I recently came into some money “ I’m dying 😅 laughing he’s driving luxury now lmbo
Louisiana law you have to wear a PFD when underway with a tiller handle.
They made that a regulation after seeing more accidents and deaths occurred with tiller handles than anything.
Let go of the handle and boat is going hard right and you're going hard left into the water then the circle back will come right at ya if no....what they call it? The "flame out" thing 😂. Spark Out sounds better. Kill switch is not copyright words 😂
Should be a friction adjustment on steering but maybe not on that thing.
I run twin engines working and living on the Lower Mississippi River.
You don't want to be on this river with one engine 😂.
Twin Yam 250's.
If i had to run that thing, I'd always head north in the river because i know I'll eventually get back with the crazy current here unless crushed by a towboat and barges.
Stay Safe
That Registered Trademark is a nice touch from Yamabisi.😆 Wow...There's also CE marking. I bet there's a "Patent Pending" marked somewhere also.
Yamabisi throttle without return spring. (That's cruise control) 🤣🤣🤣
hahahha
That Yamabisi looks similar to those Coleman branded outboards. Keep up the good work!
great segment Luke. for the most part it seems like a good little engine. always love the way foreign products are translated into English.. thanks for sharing.
that thing rips💙
In the uk these are branded as “orca” had a 9.9 myself and it was good worked as it should, gear lever felt a little cheap with the linkage but apart from that it was great
I drive / steer right handed also...to me just seems more natural and comfortable....
I remember when Parsun first came out, which were yammy clones... people kept saying they were rubbish.. funny my brother still has his 15hp 2 stroke still going strong...they have a really good name now.
People are snobs....Mercs under 50hp are made by Tohatsu.
Were lucky down here (nz)..we can still get 2 strokes.
I had 2 old 2004 9.9 yammy high torque outboards, that yamabisi is a direct copy to those. Literally identical looking.
Paper work required to import outboards is massive so I wouldn't be surprised if they had issues. Not sure how it is in US, but I assume around same.
In this episode we have a race,a race to the bottom. Will the engine outlast the pop riveted boat or will the trailer come apart killing boat, engine and purple truck? Good stuff!
Awesome truck!
Chevy Ford Honda truck...the new Big 3 automakers merged!
Happy to see you posting videos on a Friday again
Figs & Ratton ! 🤣
I have a comparisant for that motor. Its called Selva. I do belive that its italian or thereabouts. It is also a yamaha copy and has a lot of similar problems. On those there is a tiny fuel filter on the carb that always had plastic crap from factory on them. Also the clearence between the flywheel and the ignition pickups(coils) where they where mounted from factory with to much clearence. The last thing is the gasket between the engine block and the stem of the outboard, bolts there where never tight. I worked at a dealer that sold them (for a short period for some reason😂😂) sells honda and mercury now
I bet the piston in the knockoff is very lightweight aluminum. Give it a few hours operation then listen for piston slap.
Water pump was quitting due to cavitation. Air around intake equals no water drawn into pump
If ya go fast enough the water will just go overboard 😂
I grew up on the Chesapeake back in the 50's and 60's, had 2 boats on or waterfront and remember they didn't require numbers/registration if motor was under 10 hp. Looks like that 9.9 means nothing has changed. Or did they just figure a way to tax you another way? Tidewater Fisheries was everyone's nemesis back in the day so I'm sure they are way more advanced in ways to ruin your day of fun on the water. I carried a chart for minimum sizes of catch so as to avoid fines. Later, after the bay was nearly deplete of anything, I did some work briefly for The Save The Bay Foundation and discovered Chem-Lawn chemicals had indirectly caused an oxygen depletion causing the issues. But everyone now has a nice green lawn.
32:22 hell yes
My opinion upside is a rip-off. I've had SO many issues with them honoring payouts. Like 4 or 5 times, they say they can't verify the purchase. I finally closed my account and deleted the app.
The few years I've used it ive gotten almost 2000 back😅
I’ve been using for 2 years and have only had issues with verifying purchase twice. In my opinion, it’s not an app issue. It’s the gas station refusing to verify the purchase because they don’t want to pay up.
I've never had a problem with it. Have you seen a mirror recently?
"we have the safety gear always in the boat"
*ignoring the old clips where there is visibly nothing in the boat and the boat is actively sinking*
Yes, keep testing the Bisi see where it goes...
It’s like the brand you would see in a video game clone with a real life Easter egg
Man Oh Man I Love your HoundaChevyRanger Bro LOL !!! 🧨🧨🧨
26:07 back in the day me and my buddy went fishing early one morning, (we were on the water about 4am) i was in the boat while my buddy backed it into the water. i was just going to use the troller motor to get/keep it by the dock while he parked the truck but i started having a lot of problems. i have big feet (US 16 4e) so i learned that day that i cant easily control a foot pedal troller motor, especially in the dark. lol it was actually pushing me away from the dock and in every other direction besides where i wanted to go. i ended up in the middle of this huge lake in pitch black except for the single light on the dock and had to finally just give up on the troller motor and padel back but i couldnt find the oar either so i kind of panicked for a second and then laid down and started to swim back to the dock. after i finally got back over to the dock and the sun came out first, we found the oar that i was basically sitting on and then we realized that even with my problems the troller motor was wired backwards so it was actually working backwards so i was all kind of messed up. lol
I never did like a teturn spring on the throttle. I do a lot of alone fishing, and trolling. I like my old Evinrude. I can just set it how fast i want to go, and make only course adjustments.
Agreed
HP to KW : divide the power value by 1.341 , so that motor is just under 9.8 HP or 9.78946 to be closer
They market that twist grip throttle without a return spring as a cruise control and didn't even charge you extra for it.🤣
The hub was spinning because it was not broken in
I suppose the decision buyers have to make is which one you would trust to get you home when you're out in the wide blue ocean.
Those instructions are magnificent 😂
