I've been thinking about why I like watching your videos so much. It's odd because I live in Oklahoma, am nowhere near the ocean, have never been around a commercial fishing operation, don't really like eating blue crabs, (love Alaskan King crabs though), and don't have any connection to Maryland. Yet, I love watching you fish, maintain your boat, troubleshoot problems, interact with your employees, wife, and customers, and react to disasters as they occur in real time. You add all of this up, and at the end of the day, you still succeed. You push through and overcome challenges that never seem to stop coming. The odds are stacked against you, but determination and sheer grit power you through to success. That is why I like watching you and Lindsay; you are hard workers who put in the effort, keep the faith, and are rewarded in the end. It is a great example for navigating life. Great video. Keep up the great work!
I am a truck driver and some of the cheapest insurance you can get for a diesel engine is get an oil sample and have it tested. Relatively cheap and will let you know ahead of time before there is a problem, every time you change the oil get a sampleand have it tested
Hey luke...2 things on servicing catapiller 1) buy motor oil in 5 gallon container then pump new oil in motor. Lot less messy. 2) purchase pencil zincs from West marine and tap threads in cap to match. Way cheaper than buying from catapiller. Stay safe Bill L
Luke, first of all, I want to thank you for your videos. I used to go crabbing and fishing almost every day with my best friend. Dungeness Crab, Ling Cod, Salmon and flounder. Sadly my friend passed away. Watching your videos puts me back on the water with him in my mind and heart. we used to have a lot of Jerry rigging days. I think that the days the more hurdles we had were the most valuable. Those were the days I remember most. Thanks again for your "real, don't pull the punches" videos.
I served as an Engineer Mechanic in the Marine Corps...before you were born....😢. The reason all the hoses are failing is because they are all the same age. I know...just that simple. Now I work on Draft Beer systems. Still hydraulics and pneumatics, but when I have a hydraulic leak, it's not dangerous. It's delicious. The only dangerous leak is a CO2 leak in a basement or a walk in fridge.
Luke I think I enjoy your videos so much because after 10 years set employees in the construction industry I can so relate to your stories of growth/struggles along the way! Like right now I’m having staffing issues as well! But ya just keep grinding!
Luke, Bridgestone Hosepower hydraulic service trucks are really good and affordable. They will come out and change ever hydraulic line on your machine and make all your connection quick connects. You can also ask him to crimp you a replacement set to just snap in if you need a line replaced. We use them in the oilfield and we also tear shit up.
Might be possible and more affordable and make a good video to find a good mechanic in the off-season get 200ft of line 100 male 100 female connections and rent a machine for a week that'll crimp those connections. There must be a place that rents them out, it's all small stuff compared to lines on an oil rig the biggest line is probably 3/4"
They have this stretch seal/ tape stuff that is incredible for fast line repairs. It's fuel and oil resistant you can get it at O'Reilly's. Always keep rolls in our tractors and equipment. I can't tell you how many times it's saved my butt
Hate to be that fuy but didn't you say a couple videos back that we should point out when you aren't wearing your sunglasses. Your eye doctor ain't gonna be happy. 😂
LUKE- For chaffing protection use old heater hose, fuel hose etc cut a chunk of it 3-12" long cut a slit along it slide over your hose or wiring harness zip ties and you're set.
Over here in Virginia the toads are $2 a pound for small and $4 for large. An Asian that used to buy our eels from New York started buying them. He brought us some vacuum sealed fillets.. they are very very good!!! delicacy in New York
The farm i worked on in my younger years had a Peterbuilt semi truck with the CAT 3208 that was slightly turned up. That truck was a beast but it was known to destroy driveshafts. Awesome engine
Any full synthetic oil will work fine. On our high hours, old motors. I do run royal purple, have had amazing luck with it on older motors that you coulda swore was ready for a rebuild. And then shell t6 for my 7.3 and other on road diesels
Luke, I enjoy your energy and work ethic. Great videos. I have a much smaller boat, 17 footer that I run a rec trotline out of. Got a MinnKota on the bow with gps steering. When I'm setting my trotline by myself i point tolling motor where i wanna go and it takes me there. When I wanna go faster than trolling motor will go I just put outboard in gear and trolling motor still does the steering at low speed. I wonder if there was just a rudder on that trolling motor and no prop it might still keep you going straight? With your ingenuity I'm betting you'll find something to steer for you when you need it... Good luck!
When you mentioned using the engine's raw water pump to empty the bilge, it reminded me of that I sometimes would install a tee and valve on the raw water intake, and a section of hose with a strainer so you could use it to empty the bilge in an emergency. Being valved you could regulate the flow. Some builders did this when fitting out. edit: Nice 3208TA. Looks like a 375hp. To prevent a mess on those filters, I'd loosen the bolts holding the filter housing to the bracket, and pull the housing back over a bucket. No mess.
Picked up a bushel from the lotboat Sat. Good, heavy crabs worth the wait of a few minutes with guys that weren't allowed to go to the party trying their best to sort all the orders. finally got my new cull stick.
Luke idea here. Plum in a line on a valve to your raw water pump intake to a screened check valve at the bottom of the boat so in a event that happens again u can flip 2 valves and have raw water pump draining the boat as well as bilge pumps. Just be a few hundred buck insurance ig
This Cobia has been taking on water like this for well over a decade (2012) and since before I owned it. We used to run from Annapolis to St. Michaels in it quite a bit.
I was born & raised in the Commercial Fishing Industry 2nd Generation. as i fish the entire West Coast from Mexico - Alaska. Not sure how old you are but you do have drive for someone your age. give you credit. & i do NOT mean any disrespect when i say this.. LOL..! I just had to say this..BUT.. TBH, I have never in my lifetime/career have i ever heard anyone say & or use the words "Crabber", "Crab" & "Crabs" so much in just a short period of time.. Geez, with the amount of water in bilge of that boat, the leak is significant enough that with the plugs in and everything dry and boat trailered, just fill the entire bilge from the garden hose and it'll leak out somewhere.
I got my head covered in hot oil once when I was younger when my dad was making me do it and I had long hair at the time it took a couple days to get it all out
I would build supports to put under that boat then start filling the bottom of the boat with water to find the likes then fix it before you take it back out in the water so it doesn't sink fare from shore right now it's a ok of a boat at least the engine runs good and everything else works on it so it is worth fixing
BEFORE you take the old filter loose, Use a hammer and a screwdriver to pop a hole in the very bottom of an oil filter and you can drain the old oil out without dumping it on on yourself. Make your own drain basically, and you can aim it where you want.
Hydraulic lines often blow in pairs bc when you fix one weak spot the next weakest blows bc of pressure change w new hoses lol. Sucks I just did my 308 car excavator
Definitely worth watching and worth 1 million plus followers and Likes. Great information. Fix one problem another one emerge. Sounds like my M2 tracker
man just spend one day doing a proper toolbox with everything you could ever need and keep it sorted, you'll be glad to have it that way when you really need it
If I retire I can donate my time to work your boat. Should be good exercise! I worked on a commercial lobster boat for one day. Holy Cow that was hard work as the lobster pots are significantly heavier than the crab traps. 250 traps hauled rebated and put back. It was hard work but interesting. Lots of advil after that day.
If u get a freezer ziploc bag or one that's big enough to fit around filter and have spare room evenyrting stays contained in the bag and makes it really ez and simple
I think people like you and many more who do extremely good long form videos are going to put a nail in the coffin for reality tv keep up the hard work!

Hey Luke , reason you struggling to get the oil filter off is that your over tightened it… usually oil filter goes 1/4 to 1/2 turn after the gasket is against. 🤷♂️. That’s why the one that just came off was so easy to get off … love your videos!
My advice not that you ask would be to tap into the homeschool crowd. There are many families with high-quality high character children that would love to have the opportunity to be schooled in being a fisherman. they often set there own schedule and can be there when you need them.
I paused to see your prices…now I understand when you say the prices you make when you size your crabs and what you can make and how excited you guys get for the bigger and soft crabs. 150$ for a dozen extra large perfect crabs. Wow atta boy! I really enjoy the content. I’ve never had these types of crab before. The way it’s cooked and everything was strange to me. Vinegar? Lol I wish you much success! 🃏👍🏁🎭💰🎯🍿💰🎯🍿
Off of Google... Some say oyster toadfish have a sweet flavor similar to blowfish. Others say they have a mild, soft taste that's similar to fluke or sea bass. Once the fish is skinned, the meat can be filleted from the backbone and cooked in strips as with any catfish recipe; they are excellent eating when fried. Anyone handling a toadfish should be aware that its powerful jaws and strong teeth can cause serious injury to hands or fingers.
Not sure about those cat's but most old style mechanical injection diesels can run used oil as fuel. In our 7.3 idi and 6.5 gm idi engines we run waste oil all summer. Free fuel is always nice. Lol
Those toads fish we actually call them sculpins where I live, the only good purpose for them is throwing them on the spindle for lobster bait, take care of Luke love all your content

Some auto parts stores will make them also.

I think quick connects and a replacement on hand are the real gem of advice here
Love that particular engine!! We have one on a wood processor!! I love it. If you take care of that engine, it will take care of you!
They have this stretch seal/ tape stuff that is incredible for fast line repairs. It's fuel and oil resistant you can get it at O'Reilly's. Always keep rolls in our tractors and equipment. I can't tell you how many times it's saved my butt
Always not prepared.. but this is Luke! Why we love you dude

I absolutely love his sense of humor 😂
I got tired watching this video. That's a lot of work but you're killing it. Awesome job
Fiberglass over mulch had me rolling.
Thanks for the show guys 🍻

Toadfish? I live in NY on long island. Ive never heard of anyone eating toadfish
The farm i worked on in my younger years had a Peterbuilt semi truck with the CAT 3208 that was slightly turned up. That truck was a beast but it was known to destroy driveshafts. Awesome engine
Prefill your fuel filters with some seafoam or another additive
I love you guys. So blessed with good family and friends! Keep up the good work, brother man!!!🥰
I love how the live blue crab on the countertop made an unexpected cameo during the factor commercial.
Any full synthetic oil will work fine. On our high hours, old motors. I do run royal purple, have had amazing luck with it on older motors that you coulda swore was ready for a rebuild. And then shell t6 for my 7.3 and other on road diesels
Holy shit i about had a heart attack when you grabbed that leaking hydraulic line. Hydraulic injection injuries are an absolute nightmare.
The motor oil can eat through your lines, probably a good idea to do a full fluid swap as soon as you can afford
When I was young, dumb, and…. *camera zooms in* whatever else.
Grade A humor and editing. 😂😂 kudos
Luke, you put way to much pressure on yourself your doing a awesome job man.
Most of that is just good content for the camera. He knows what he's doing. He's got a gorgeous wife. He's gonna go far in life
That van rocks! And he's a grateful dead fan!
Bout time I see y’all have some fun!!! Catch a buzz every now and then. lol

Make a video where you use the flex seal paint on stuff. The junk in a can and roll it on the sinking feelings under side to seal it. Make Phil proud!
The one thing we like about u the most is you always make it work. Your gonna do big things in this world. Keep up the crab up.
Picked up a bushel from the lotboat Sat. Good, heavy crabs worth the wait of a few minutes with guys that weren't allowed to go to the party trying their best to sort all the orders. finally got my new cull stick.
I have twin 3208s. Love them but extremely important to have a smart mechanic to help maintain tthem.
Luke idea here. Plum in a line on a valve to your raw water pump intake to a screened check valve at the bottom of the boat so in a event that happens again u can flip 2 valves and have raw water pump draining the boat as well as bilge pumps. Just be a few hundred buck insurance ig
Yep IDK why boaters don't set up multiple pumps. It's cheap insurance
@@mrmotofyexpensive, heavy, take a lot of power to run, and you have to constantly maintain them, especially if you never use it
“27 passenger Mennonite mover” 😂😂
Same with that aquasport at the sand bar bash.
This Cobia has been taking on water like this for well over a decade (2012) and since before I owned it. We used to run from Annapolis to St. Michaels in it quite a bit.

DO NOT TIGHTEN any oil filter with a wrench. Hand tight only. That's why you're hammering screw drivers thru them
Luke your honesty, hard work, and love for teaching is great! I’m traveling down from Boston in the summer next yr.
I got my head covered in hot oil once when I was younger when my dad was making me do it and I had long hair at the time it took a couple days to get it all out

That boat reminds me of the SS Minnow. Have a good weekend Gilligan
BEFORE you take the old filter loose,

Make your own drain basically, and you can aim it where you want.
the hydraulic repair needed a "Chris Fix here!" The hand talking was good.
The crab in the ad plug killed me 😂
When your employee says, “yep” when you ask him to do a 4 man job with two people you know you a good boss with a loyal employee 👍❤️
Luke really struck his luck with Lindsay.
Hydraulic lines often blow in pairs bc when you fix one weak spot the next weakest blows bc of pressure change w new hoses lol. Sucks I just did my 308 car excavator
Thanks again for another awesome video I really enjoyed it and as always I'm really looking forward to seeing the next video
The Diesel looks brand new !!
I laughed about your Zincs I have done the same thing with my boat parts I can’t figure out where I put the replacements

You sound like a work comp claim waiting to happen
You gotta have an old first aid kit. that usually has tape in it. actually works pretty well.
We eat toadfish down here in North Carolina. It fries up nice and is pretty good eaten.
got stuff to do, right! Work never ends.
kudos to you.
Get the shell rotella. It's not expensive and it's good oil.
59:50 nothing like having an extra 700 to 1000 plus pounds of weight in the boat.
If u get a freezer ziploc bag or one that's big enough to fit around filter and have spare room evenyrting stays contained in the bag and makes it really ez and simple
If you ask a crabber what he would do if you won a million bucks, he'd say "I'd keep crabbing until all the money was gone".

I keep pex couplings and hose clamps in all my tool boxs just for hose breaks
To check for leak on your center console, with it on trailer, fill it with water to see if there is a hull leak.

Luke the filter tells you how tight to install it. It’s hand tight only so follow the instructions on the filter.

Didn't you say something about that you should wear sunglases while on the water?
I’m such a mom I was thinking the same thing 🥴👍🏼
As a safety HR guy I was glad to see him in prescription PPE. Don't take those eyes for granted if you wanna enjoy those views on the water at 50

If you want it to fall off. That is not a good idea on a desiel engine. Well if you don't want self changing oil.
Nobody believes a guy that can’t spell diesel😂
