    Dr. Fester's Lucky 13
Most ‘Psychonauts are in Europe, where Motorpsycho have been a pretty big deal for nearly 30 years. Starting out in post-grunge territory via Trondheim, Norway in the early 90s and named after a Russ Meyer film, they ably consumed influences like the indie psychedelia of Mercury Rev, Neil Young, Pink Floyd and eventually some of the heavier sides of prog rockers like Yes, King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator along with proto-metal and art rock. After their first decade they add a touch of stoner/desert rock and a quirky sense of humor that perhaps makes the most sense to Norwegians, giving some idea of the diverse breadth of their psych prog sound. I don’t know if their European sensibility would translate to a larger audience here, but they seem unconcerned. They already have the fame, awards and audience that appreciates the beauty of their massive catalog.
So why, after over 18 albums, should one get excited for yet another Motorpsycho album? They seemed to be geared up for a late career peak. After collaborating with an orchestra on the seemingly unwieldy but awesome jazz fusion of The Death Defying Unicorn: A Fanciful And Fairly Far-Out Musical Fable (Rune Grammafon, 2012), the band welcomed Dungen‘s massively talented Reine Fiske as a frequent guest, managed to put out another three excellent studio albums while also doing some scores for theatre. Last year they released the two disc career summation, Supersonic Scientists - A Young Person´s Guide To Motorpsycho, changed drummers (meet Tomas Järmyr from Italian avant jazz metal band Zu), and announced big things were to come. It all indicates a build-up to a potentially career-defining double album that can fiercely wrastle with the others for the top of the heap status, and summarize the band’s strengths with their most consistently captivating songs since Heavy Metal Fruit (2010).

    1. Motorpsycho - The Tower
    2. Elder - Reflections Of A Floating World
    3. Protomartyr - Relatives In Descent
    4. Algiers - The Underside Of Power
    5. Causa Sui - Vibraciones Doradas
    6. Papir - V
    7. The Sonic Dawn - Into The Long Night
    8. The Dials - That Was The Future
    9. Bask - Ramble Beyond
    10. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - The French Press EP
    11. Jess And The Ancient Ones - The Horse And Other Weird Tales
    12. Ferocious Dog - The Red Album
    13. The Sand Pebbles - Pleasure Maps
    The Feelies - In Between
    Royal Thunder - Wick
Queens Of The Stone Age - Villains
    Spidergawd - IV
Colour Haze - In Her Garden
    Mere Women - Big Skies
    Bent Knee - Land Animal
    Grave Pleasures - Motherblood
Hällas - Excerpts From A Future Past
Amplifier - Trippin’ With Dr. Faustus
    Slowdive - Slowdive
    Pugwash - Silverlake
Spirit Adrift - Curse Of Conception
The Greek Theatre - Broken Circle
Troubled Horse - Revolution On Repeat
Crystal Jacqueline - Await The Queen
Bubbling under: The Warp/The Weft, The Black Angels, Froth, Papernut Cambridge, The Galileo 7, Spoon, Power Trip, Transit Method, RVG, Second Still, The Beginner's Mynd, Pallbearer, Sugarfoot, Hans Chew, Robert Finley, Male Gaze, The Mermen, Elephant Stone, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Purple Hill Witch, Mordecai Smyth, Nathan Hall & the Sinister Locals, Lucille Furs, Avatarium, The Black Watch, Horisont, Idles, The Obsessed, The Ocean Party, Wand, Sparks, All Them Witches, Moon Duo, Wet Lips, Triptides. So much good music came out that as much as I love Air Raid, all these came first in my list!
Paulcore: The Sonic Dawn, The Dials, The Sand Pebbles, The Greek Theatre, Crystal Jaqueline, Froth, Papernut Cambridge, The Galileo 7, The Beginner's Mynd, Elephant Stone, Mordecai Smyth, Nathan Hall & the Sinister Locals, Lucille Furs, The Black Watch, The Ocean Party, Triptides.
Crystalcore: Protomartyr, Algiers, Mere Women, Slowdive, RVG, Second Still, Male Gaze, Wet Lips.
Tommycore: Royal Thunder, Spidergawd, Hällas, Spirit Adrift, Power Trip, Purple Hill Witch, Horisont.
Not sure if Crystal mentioned exactly which King Gizz album she hate-listened to. There were four! I liked Flying Microtonal Banana and Polygondwanaland, and Gumboot Soup and Murder of the Universe had their moments. They often frustrate me in that I'd love for them to just spend a couple years making a truly great album all the way through, rather than approach each one like a combination of an academic exercise and a party game. But for many, that's their charm.

Well awwwright...Happy 4th Of July my fellow music family, friends and homies. So we're talking about...2017, boo!! The next few years around every other week will make me bored but I do have a surprise coming up and iit involve with someone who came out with the album that I like but stay tuned for that. So today, I have my top 4 albums of 2017 and only one worst of the year too. So let's begin:
    My Top 4:
    4. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
    3. Jidenna - The Chief
    2. Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie - Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie 1. (Tie) Chris Stapleton - From A Room Vol. 1/From A Room Vol. 2 (I'm a Chris Stapleton fan and really love his music).
    My Worst Of 2017:
Anything and everything of 2017 (Riff Raff, Rick Ross, Drake, Gucci Mane, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Katy Perry, etc).

So here I am, a day late, chomping at the bit to argue with Crystal....
    My top 10 for 2017:
    10. The Long Awaited Album, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers (I only like bluegrass if it's Steve Martin!)
    9. Pleasure, Feist
    8. Soul of a Woman, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
    7. Surviving Twin, Loudon Wainwright III
    6. Ladies and Gentlemen: Barenaked Ladies and the Persuasions (It's not their best effort, but I like it. Not much of an argument, is it?)
    5. Americana, Ray Davies
    4. Solid State, Jonathan Coulton
    3. Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie (I saw them in concert on this tour and was quite disappointed that the show was so heavily skewed toward Lindsey's material, but then again, I'm not sure what else I would have expected.)
    2. Rekihndled, Greg Kihn Band
    1. Dark Matter, Randy Newman
That Greg Kihn Band album is surprisingly good (if you like Greg Kihn in the first place). The songwriting is decent, and the performances are good. Greg Kihn's voice has aged pretty well, and his son Ry is a hell of a guitarist. It gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from me (obviously, since I have it at number 2 for the year).

Hi, I'm Ernest. I'm a Libra and I like chihuahuas and Chinese noodles. Wait, did I turn into Cindy Wilson from the B-52's right in the middle of that sentence? Weird.
Speaking of Moonshine Bandits, Happy 4th of July everyone! Pure coincidence the video containing the rant about that group gets posted on this day? I'm not sure about that... ;)
When Crystal said Dark Side Of The Moon was on her list for 2017, I thought she may have been referring to one of the 100 or so reissues of that album.
Nightlands? You 'gotta live it every day? Let the broken hearts stand as the price you've 'gotta pay? Nevermind.
I did see that documentary about Glen Campbell and him struggling with dementia/Alzheimer's. And yeah, that's the power of music. Someone struggling with that might forget everything and everyone else, but when a song comes on, they're on it. My grandfather had dementia and my uncle would have the Siriusly Sinatra channel on in the car with him in the backseat and he knew every single word to every one of those songs. You see that with other people who suffer from that disease as well. It's really amazing when you think about it.
I got a cold with a fever on election night 2016. Around the point he was announced as the winner, I felt a fever coming on and a stuffy nose. Seriously. Of course, not as serious as what tragically happened to Sharon Jones, bless her, but still.
That Blondie album (Pollinator) got quite a lot of praise upon release, actually. Haven't heard it all the way through yet myself, but I do remember the video for Doom Or Destiny which was a duet between Debbie and Joan Jett, and as someone who, let's just say, wouldn't mind being in between them when the meteor finally hits, it was an amazing video for me to see. Ha.
Oh yeah, what are my choices for best albums of 2017? Well, I spoiled it in the comment I left for the Debut Albums video that I only have one, so here 'tis:
Soulfire - Little Steven. A GREAT comeback for Stevie. Recording some of the songs he actually wrote for other people, some cool covers and arrangements of those covers. Even the Persuasions singing backup on a few tracks (No Barenaked Ladies, though. Unless there were barenaked ladies dancing in the studio...) I was hesitant at first, but when I heard his take on Love On The Wrong Side Of Town, I was sold. And the rest of the album turned out to be just as good.
That Taylor Swift ad was actually quite enjoyable. And the one with Lemmy was very sweet as well. I guess 2017 had at least a FEW ads that were tolerable.
I'll do a top 5 or a top 6 with the Billy Joel album ranking next week. If I can anyway. Depending on my mood. Ha. See 'ya. :)

Kendrick connected with me on a deep level. Memories of the early 90s - yellow caution tape in my neighborhood, constant news footage of the LA Riots and the golden era of hip hop.
He rhymes quicker than most people think. “Watch my soul speak, you let the meds talk” I’m very happy to share DAMN. with you as a favorite album this year!
My other faves are DNA, LOYALTY, & XXX.
If there’s controversy over his lyrics, mofos need to get real. 🤣🧦 🛋️
My crown is a little tarnished and crooked, but every dent has a story and the wisdom to go along with it.

LOVE Hutch. My 84 Pro Racer is dope. I also have an 85 Skyway Streetbeat, an 86 Pro Performer, an 86 Pro World Tour, an 87 Pro Freestyle Tour, two Mike D. Strike Zones (an 86 and an 87), and a 95 Auburn that I converted into a one-off freestyle Auburn.

@@tommyvonvoigt5240 I'm from central Vancouver Island so we didn't have a lot of guys riding and not a lot of options for brands but we had a handful. I had a Skyway TA chrome from my sisters boyfriend. He had a CW Phase 1 with that Z in the bottom tube. I had a Redline 700 and a Kuwahara KY1 (my first bike) which wasn't even full chromoly lol 4130 baby. I also had a GT Pro Performer that I stole as a favor (that ate away at me inside. I felt like a POS but he had full insurance so got a brand new replacement which was a Pro Freestyle, the one with the bent bottom tube.) but was a heavier bike. After that I was done with BMX as I'm 6'3 so it's just silly to look at. My friend down the street had a Pro Racer, it had a bit thicker tubes if I recall I'm 5 years older than you so I think I was done by 89 or so.
Your bikes all seem very high end. I assume you could do tricks and jumps like a beast?

@@dumbguydepot304 that's a killer stable you had yourself!
I've gone through phases of being pretty decent, to falling off for awhile when life gets in the way, then trying to get back at it, then getting distracted for awhile again. High school was peak time for me, since you just couldn't keep me off the things. At that time, I was primarily doing trail riding / jumping. We had banked turns and pump tracks and jumps all over the place in the surrounding woods. The soil had high clay content out in Long Island, so it was fantastic for that. I didn't start getting interested in tricks until a bit later, around the time I also started hitting up actual pro tracks. One thing I've never done is half pipe or pool riding, since those things just weren't anywhere to be found. I haven't sought it out in later years, since I feel like I really would need to be 15 and insane to take that plunge.
The funny thing is, throughout all of this, I always used freestyle bikes. Even the Pro Racer is done up in full freestyle trim, which is absolutely not what that frame set was intended for.

Hutch is the bike I wanted, but being a latchkey kid with no dad and a waitress mom with a drinking problem, I never had the $$$ for Hutch. But, my granny got me a Mongoose. Chromoly with the blue mags. I loved it for about two months before it got stolen by the bmx bandits. Literally. A gang of bike these haunted Tulsa in the 80s…lol.

There’s so much polarizing going on in the world today, especially in entertainment. It’s so sad and it’s frustrating.
I watch your show. It’s a great way to escape from that and it’s really a pity that somehow politics creeps into this show too ,
it alienates part of your audience ,
you probably don’t care, but fans love this show and want to leave the polarization behind and have a brief respite .
And btw you’re thinking of the extreme side of the spectrum, that can go either way ,extreme assholes on one side and delusional people on the other side . It’s so based !
Not every Trump supporter or Biden supporter is on the extreme side of the spectrum.
