  • Many of us fall into temptation because we refuse to listen to Jesus’s urgent command to watch and pray.

    Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. EPHESIANS 4:29

    Cuando una misma tentación persiste creo que principalmente se debe a que no me he arrepentido lo suficiente y continuo alimentando la mente de ese aquel viejo hombre antiguo que siempre está hambriento de deseos y continuamente insatisfecho.

    Sin can open doors that cannot be closed:
    2 Peter 2:19
    "They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for 'people are slaves to whatever has mastered them."
    John 8:34
    Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin."
    Romans 1;28-32
    "Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."
    James 1:14-15
    "But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death."
    The repercussions of sin over time are spiritual blindness, spiritual deafness, a hardened heart, and a loss of good conscience.

    Question: if Jesus KNEW Peter would deny Him, then what could Peter have done to prevent that?

      MichaelDisciple “If Jesus knew” ...?
      Jesus certainly knows everything.
      Jesus permitted the denial, Peter repented, Jesus restored Peter and equipped him to serve the church.

      He who is forgiven little loves little, and he who is forgiven much loves much.
      There is a sovereign reason and purpose for why believers fall and fail: Grace.

    • @mrmcgowan
      @mrmcgowan 6 лет назад

      I understand the grace aspect of it, and certainly Jesus knew Peter would deny Him. I guess a better way to phrase my question is... since Jesus told Peter that he would deny him 3 times, did Peter have any other choice? It seems as though there could not have been any free will to stop the events from happening. If Peter could have indeed changed his course of actions, then that would have made Jesus a liar. It just seemed like a hopeless case for Peter to begin with. (Of course, Jesus foreknew that Peter would lead the church also, so his denial would lead to greater purpose).

      @PortCanon 6 лет назад +1

      Right. Jesus knows.
      He knows what will happen. He even knows every hypothetical happening - He is God.
      Peter has responsibility in his choices AND Jesus knows where his choices will land. That applies to all of us and all of our choices.
      God is sovereign.
      And in His sovereignty, He allows for man to be responsible.

    Rightly divide the word of truth. The verse you base your teaching on is Matthew 26:41. This was before the Holy Spirit was given.
    The flesh is weak. What does Paul write in Romans.
    Romans 8:3-4 KJVS
    [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
    God also allows temptations to come our way to mature us.
    James 1:12 KJVS
    [12] Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
    Hebrews 3:6-12 KJVS
    [6] But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. [7] Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, [8] Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: [9] When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. [10] Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. [11] So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) [12] Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
    They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways! God needs to put to the proof the godly character He is instilling in us.

      Scott Banks, if you believe that to be the case, then I urge you in God's love to believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, and follow Him. In John 6:37, Jesus said, "All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out." And Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
