What a great selection of pictures. The high-rise construction shots made me squirm - those men were fearless. I loved the detail of the hand-stitched sail. Something about those two ragged little girls (England 1941 at 7.25) was immensely sad. Both of them could still be alive today, aged in their 80s. I hope life got better for them.
A rather sweeping statement! Child rape (both sexes), abject poverty, child labour, etc., etc., is just as prevalent today as it was in the past with these photos. ''The little darlings'' of which you speak are probably offspring of well-off working class parents, or middle class, and so on. Disclaimer: There's no guarantee that even these ''little darlings'' are not undergoing abuses from their 'wealthy' parents.
@@martindunstan8043I have taken my daughter, now 24, through a few community museums and shown her things I saw when growing up, where I grew up in the bush and through the war memorial in Canberra. When she saw what our troops went through she was horrified, then she saw my photo in a nasty place overseas, that's when the tears started. She never knew.
This channel never fails to amaze me with the sheer array of photographs of yesteryear and 'little Greta' is still not amused. An excellent assortment, thank you 👌
This is the BEST channel I have seen showing old photos. New sub! The format is incredible. Just the perfect amount of time with the banner and without. It gives us the perfect amount of time to read and then see the photo in its entirety. Great job. Great photos. Thank you so much!
First I like to say thank you for sharing with the public I really enjoy the videos can you imagine if someone didn't invent camera, we are most likely not know what life look like back then.
When visiting a friend who lived in Appleton, Wisconsin in 2006, she took me to the Houdini Museum in that city. It was fantastic and so much fun to go to this great museum!
It's interesting to see that in the video game tournament the participants are clearly all young "boys". It's a fascinating picture that defies how society matures in certain aspects.
Wow these pics really made me feel so grateful for what i have, I may not live in a mansion or have 1 million dollars in my bank account, but I now realize that im blessed and I've got a lot, and i just bet that little kid smoking a cigar lived until he/she was nearly 100.
Your photos always make my day! Each posting seems to be more amazing than the previous one... Do you have an idea of what the alignment of men (with no sex appeal :-) in briefs was?? The most ''puzzling'', and also heart-breaking, to me was the ''hangover'' homeless, and maybe especially heart-breaking because they had to pay to be ''allowed to'' hang over a rope, for lack of space I suppose... And the new father of three: I'd love to know if he fainted for real or if it was a funny acting (seems real though). Have a nice day and good luck with your quest for finding more fascinating photos!
I don't know the story behind the sex appeal briefs but I found it a nice mix of funny and disturbing ....lol Likewise, not sure if the father fainting was staged or not. If it were me in that situation I would have fainted ... and never recovered !
You can see the tiled vaulted ceilings shown in the photograph in 1904 inside Wolfgang’s Steakhouse on Park Avenue. It was originally Commodore Vanderbilt’s personal terminus. It’s amazing and the Prime beef is top drawer. Get the thick bacon appetizer.
If these bed and board establishments for the indigent were commonplace in Britain at the turn of the 20th century, there hardly seems much substance to claims of Britain being the mightiest world empire at that time.
Some say they are too long, some say they are too short. Unfortunately, it is impossible to please everyone. However, the best solution that most people have found is just to hit pause on whatever device you are using, then hit play when you are ready. That way you can take as long as you like. I actually do the same thing when I'm editing & proof reading. Hope this helps.
Wonderful! But I saw a mistake. There was no way a cash register only went up to a maximum sale of $9.99. I worked one of those old 1898 relics in Dawson City in 1975 when I worked at the old General Store. They went up to $999.99. They have 3 tabs popping up in front of the decimal point. Since stores have always catered to the people who will make them the most money, why would they set the bar so low? > Ridiculous.
I guess when a mistake is ever made in these videos where they should have done better research, we cannot exercise our right to free speech and politely correct it. My goodness, Joyce - what an adorable politically-correct Barbie world you live in.@@joyceconnolly1065
They were extremely poor and extremely drunk ... It only cost a penny and at least they were kept upright. This gave them safe shelter and stopped them from choking on their own vomit while lying down.
0:49 -0:53 Triplets.
Father- “That means more crying. More spit ups. More diaper changing. Goodbye freedom.”

The hangover one will be indebted into my brain
Mine too !
It's thought that's where the saying "could sleep on a clothes line" originated from.

I always include a high rise photo because I’m afraid of heights and it keeps me humble 🤣
I hope life got better for the girls, too. It’s a shame that we don’t know their names so we could find out what happened to them.
The high rise workers are often Mohawk Indians. Seeing them makes fright pangs in my tummy!
The two little girls got me, that was during WWII. I too hope they are alive today.
My mom was born in 1940. She would have still been an infant but those little girls made me think of her.
These pics should be shown in schools so the current batch of little darlings know how easy they have it.
Totally agree!

That right there is an excellent suggestion, I can hear the kids now 'WHAT!! You had to work ALL day with no free money or electronic devices'! 🤣👍

It's the parents who give their children everything but ask very little of their children, in the way of responsibilities, who are to blame.

Sharon Rudy . . . I fully agree with what you shared. Perfect timing of the pictures! 👍
With the housing crisis in Australia at the moment those cofffin boxes look like a great option.

Glad you like them ... and its about time you were first !... lol ... Thanks for the continued support.
I agree , these photos should be shown in schools, kids gave it so easy today, they are treated like silk gloves
Children today already know that they live in a better world. I don't get your point...
And adults
In fact, most of them know that 'gave' is spelled 'have'. They even have the intelligence to go back and edit it using the edit button
Truly fascinating thank you very much for this

Loved the ingredients in the cough syrup. Now, THAT would certainly knock you out.Wonder how it would be classified today?😊
i didnt know that tattoos were so common back in 1910, and they were fully covered, or so it looked

That first photo of “Hangover” was the origin of “I could sleep on a clothesline”
No it wasn’t.
Very original colletion. Amazing photos. Someone did some burning the midnight oil seeking out that lot. Great to see them all.

I guess my favorite was that little original oak door from the time of
Edward the Confessor.

The British systems: coffin houses and dangling over a rope to sleep? Really?
Those were the good old days here in Britain.Feeling nostalgic!!!🤣

The cough syrup part was funny 😂

The word should have been Hangout not Hangover
1:28 I don't blame those guys were a little scared. 7:23 I hope those two are ok now even though they might be in their 80s
Need to leave the captions up there just a little bit longer am 77 years old and I don’t read that fast anymore.

NASA didn't exist until 1958 they didn't launch anything in 1950, it would have been the Army Air corp.

I have questions
We have answers
Answers are often available ... but not always accurate !
that photo at 1.35 is Eric sykes, but cannot work out which film it is, the great race maybe.
It is indeed Eric Sykes. It was a pilot episode for a new show called “Brainwaves”…. But, it never aired.
Mass shaving machine?
Umm, No thank you…
I think there was a reason they never caught on !
0:50 The triplets photo is obviously staged!
Of course
Tik Tok of olde.
I think, the father was joking...😅
What was the point of hanging over the rope?
They were extremely poor and extremely drunk ... It only cost a penny and at least they were kept upright. This gave them safe shelter and stopped them from choking on their own vomit while lying down.
Wasn't just drunks, for homeless people who couldn't find a bed for the night.
Why do children look so creepy in old photo? :)
Why would you want to dangle over a rope for a penny ?
People slept that way
Don't cha know?
Rope impressions on the belly were highly fashionable back then.
Sheesh, kids these days don't know nutin.
🙄
