I have loved Mariah since she first came on the scene. Her voice is like liquid gold.

I have loved Mariah ever since I got her first album. Very talented singer and songwriter. It's such nonsense how people always pitch female singers against one another too (as a side note), they never do it to male performers. There's room for more than one queen in the music industry. They all got their crowns and they are different artists and should be appreciated as such.

To this day I am stunned by some of her older performances. Talk about having a gift. This version was before the release I believe and performed in a setting as you mentioned, stripped-down, where her voice was the center stage. This happens to be one of my favorites and sort of singable to a degree by others. I'm sure I sound like a choking cat in the shower but I'll belt this baby out. Great choice to react to from this DIva with the Heavenly voice.
I didn't know this song and performance at all. What a perfect blend of Mariah voice and choir! She always sounds gorgeous but this choir takes it to another level of awesomeness.
Omg one of my favourite Mariah Carey tracks too!!! In case you didn't know Mariah wrote his song from the perspective of God talking to her! She was going through some marital struggles around that time and hence wrote the song as if God was singing this to her!
Also this was her first-ever concert! with her fans.
There is a performance of this song at her Tokyo Dome concert and that is even more spectacular than this one because it incorporates the remix towards the end!!!

The first Mariah Carey song I listened to was "Make It Happen". I've been a fan ever since. I just watched a video of "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" by Vi and members of Earth Wind and Fire, I'm really impressed with the quality of their performance. Not only is "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" a phenomenal song, but the performance rivals the likes of Quincy Jones and the Average White Band.

For those of you younger people wondering when was Mariah's voice the strongest. It was during this particular concert because this is when her vocal strength reached the top right after she recorded her second album and this concert as well as her first Madison Square Garden Concert were both sold as DVDs. If you hear the CD version of this song and hear this live performance there is no difference in quality.
