  • A propane(LP) leak test also known as a “drop test”, is a very important test performed by technicians and inspectors. Typically this test is done during a PDI (pre delivery inspection), yearly inspection, or after any part of the LP system has been serviced or modified. This test ensures the system is leak free and that the regulator and other portions of the LP system are working properly. Propane leaks are nothing to under mind as they can be dangerous and even life threatening. As a parent, things like this are always on my mind. With this simple test you can have that piece of mind that your system is leak free, using one simple and inexpensive tool. A manometer can be purchased on Amazon for as little as $50, which in my opinion is cheap considering what you are preventing.

These two tests from the stove indicate no LP issues in the entire RV? LP Hot Water Heater? LP Furnace? Obviously the lines under the RV are not easy to access.

That's correct, as the LP system is tied together and is pressurized this is the way to test for all the components on the rv. Connect here and fire off the other appliances on the rv to measure drop. It's fairly simple :)

Nicely done sir! If I may - IF during the time pressure drop test, the pressure on the manometer comes up - what differentiates a faulty high pressure regulator from a faulty tank valve? If the tank valve is leaky, the regulator is still doing it's job.

i know i have a leak cuz my two 20 lb tanks run out in 24 hours.. so i guess i just need to make up some soapy water and get a spray bottle and try to find where every gas connection is.. i smell it outside where the hoses go up into the stove. and i smell it in the back of the camper where the exhaust vent is on the furnace..also near the regulator i smell gas leaking i have a 2022 kz connect. brand new.. and im having this problem.. awesome

I just rebuilt an old Avion 1962 all new if I turn off the Gas it holds enough to light the stove 6 hours or so but after that it is empty

WHY are you not going from under the regulator instead of the stove? Wouldn't be easier to be outside and near the gas tanks to turn off an on while doing the test?

Which Manometer range should I get? I’m finding 0-10 or 0-35”?

0-35, your tank pressure is going to be between 12 and 14, so 0-10 wouldn’t work.
