  • In this video we take a look at undervolting the RTX 3090. This graphics card at stock consumes A LOT of power so undervolting is definitely a viable way to lower power, reduce temps, and lower noise.

    This curve method does not make use of the fact that different games use different loads of gpu and memory clock and it also doesn't consider the fact that GPU useage below 100% allows for much higher clocks at higher voltages without consuming more power. It is much better to find the highest possible stable overclock and then just lower the power limit. That way the GPU boost algorithm can still do it's magic and you receive the same or better results than the curve method at the same power useage. It's also easier to do.

    • @HairySeagull
      @HairySeagull 3 года назад +3

      But doesn't overclocking shorten the lifespan of the GPU whereas undervolting actually increases it? Sorry, I'm a newbie. Please correct me if I am wrong.
      And why doesn't it draw more power when it's below 100%? Compared to a undervolted GPU that is also under 100% usage.

    What is the purpose of shifting the Voltage/Frequency curve down (@ 2:10 timestamp)? By doing so, the voltage is raised at every frequency point. For example, at 1300 MHz, the original voltage value is 750 mv. After shifting the curve down, the voltage value at 1300 MHz is raised to around 800 mv.

    I dunno, seems at first sight like good settings, but more research actually show the opposite: Guys, beware. This is poor underclocking shown here on this 3090 Strix.
    Especially the Strix card seems to be able to do MUCH more than just -200 core, locking. Besides: Why don't you touch the aggressive ramp curve before your sweet spot? I would take drag stock curve around the spot FIRST (which is rather around 1900 MHz @ 0.9 mV for me), and AFTERWARDS pull all the dots down, apply. Makes it much more stable and steady with clocking, your solution begs for stuttering and is not applicable in real gaming. And not touching the power limit (at the Strix, that offers insane headroom), is also a bad idea....
    Yeah, sorry. This is not a good way to do it. No offense.
