The words on the screen are from a poem written about The Charge of the Light Brigade, during the Crimean War. History lesson over! I think you need to reach a certain age to appreciate a genre you're not used to. You introduced me to rap, welcome to rock!!

I love how you picked up on Harris’ signature bass “gallop” technique… as an old head in the world of hip hop and metal… I love seeing you delve into older things. Bruce Dickinson (the singer) is an amazing human. He’s a commercial pilot, an Olympic Level fencer, #1 best selling author, he beat tongue cancer, has a university level professor of ancient history degree as well as an honorary Doctorate… he flies the band in their 747 when they’re on tour 😂 “Run to the Hills” is right up there with the trooper as far as public notoriety, they’re album and T-shirt artwork really helped make them a mainstay in pop culture too (in my opinion)

I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. To give you a complete list of Iron Maiden recommendations, see my list below.
This song, The Trooper is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War
The single's accompanying music video included clips of a cavalry battle from the 1936 film The Charge of the Light Brigade, starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland.
    Iron Maiden is:
Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 63 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer
Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 66 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left
    Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present
    Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present
    Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1990 - present
    Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 70 years), 1982 - present
The next songs I'd recommend are Rime of the Ancient Mainer - LiveFlight666 and Fear of the Dark Live Rock in Rio 2001
Highlight of songs I'd recommend are:
    From Iron Maiden------
Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version
Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden)
    From Killers ------
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) ***You have done
Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming)
Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive)
Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer)
Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible)
Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem)
Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings)
From The Number of the Beast------
Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot)
The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) * Do this song live at Hammersmith 1982
    From Piece of Mind------
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
    From Powerslave------
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World
Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner)
Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain)
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
    From Somewhere in Time-------
Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great
From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------
Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares)
The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers)
    From Fear of the Dark------
Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad)
Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one)
    From Brave New World------
The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet)
    From Dance of Death------
No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation)
Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
From A Matter of Life and Death------
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Out of the Shadows (About being born)
    Up the Irons!

It's nice to see you stepping out of your comfort zone!
Hallowed Be Thy Name and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner are probably two of the most interesting "stories" from Iron Maiden. Both are very "prog rock" in structure and style, rather than a more straight forward structure like this one. Both have got fantastic atmosphere and progression. They're very much "epics" (in length and subject matter).
Run To The Hills, Aces High and Number Of The Beast are probably the ones to go for more a more straightforward, "radio friendly" sound and structure like The Trooper (as straightforward as Iron Maiden get, anyway!)

Maiden have a live show from 1982 at the Hammersmith in London. It's incredible man. They are all about the live show. Hallowed be thy name, 22 acacia avenue and the prisoner are all mind bogglingly good on that show but man, maiden has 17 studio albums. They have a massive catalog and the first 10yrs 8n particular are ridiculous. They tell amazing stories and every band member brings someth8ng and gets their chance to shine. Best band 8n the world.

Maiden's catalog of high-quality tracks is arguably larger than any other band because they've been going consistently strong for 40+ years. So there's a shitload to choose from. This is one from their earlier days (4th album in 1983). You might want to consider fast forwarding to the last song on possibly their last album, the 17th, released last September. The song is Hell on Earth, and for a few hardcore fans like myself that have been there from the start, this is the best song they've ever done and certainly one to go out on. Same songwriter as from this track. Don't leave out the lyrics if you choose to listen. As spot on as you can get about the earth we're currently inhabiting.

Quick backstory. Back in the day, armies had Heavy Calvary, and a Light Brigade. Heavy had horses in armor, heavy swords, and tons of protection. Light Brigade was no armor, light swords "Calvary Sabers", and built for speed to carve up the battle filed AFTER the infantry had beaten the enemy down. At the start of this battle, the wrong flag was displayed, and they called for the "Light Brigade" to charge at the onset. It was a complete mistake, but the soldiers never waivered, or questioned. They charged.... Charged, even though they knew they were charging into certain death!

Watch hollowed by they name, the official video it's was taped 2 days B4 the album was released. This sone is about the poem The as charge of the light brigade. And was why maiden was banned from MTV because it used footage from the movie.

The first album I ever bought was Piece of mind by Maiden.
I bought it for the cover art, had never heard them. And they changed my whole life. I’m 42 now and heavy metal has been the primary sound track of my life. Have been playing drums for 31 years. Tattooing professionally for 16 years. Maiden was playing the first time I got laid and when my first child was born.
All because I bought That album.

Maiden are great! You should check out Iron Maiden’s Run To The Hills, and then check out the cover of the same song by Hellsongs. It’s amazing how the lyrics just feel different in the two versions! (But my fave guitar solo is in Aces High)
