Kennys fantastic..just like i saw him in 1976..when i wore a younger mans clothes..now when i play guitar how i want to emulate his interpretations of those songs..but he was the master of that..RIP ..
Can someone share the year this was performed? I Loved this good man. He' was a;ways right up there with Carmen for me. I would go see him whenever I could.
His pitch is perfect. Nails every note. Even on the larger intervals, between low and high notes. Such a joy to listen to someone who can actually do this with his real voice as opposed to all the auto-tuned artists out there on the radio today.
I loved Kenny from the first time I saw him on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. He was a fabulous song stylist and musician. Gone too soon. His voice like Ella's was forever young. This was a treat. Thank you!
Me too... I've tried to find that Carson show with Kenny.. no luck... he did 'When Sunny Gets Blue" completely re-writing the melody better than original....and the flawless guitar playing... sorely missed.
Almost everyone can learn less or more to play an instrument ....the sooner is the best but unfortunately for a good voice it's a matter of chance .You were born with or without ! I can only imagine the tremendous pleasure to tell a song ,mastering each word and each note as those Greats !
He always had perfect pitch, but by now I think he was struggling. You would never see it. I saw him live in 76 o77...so I know him. I loved him and finally met him two year before he passed. His voice never was damaged. God looked over him.
I hope I have this right, but when the Beatles were going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, McCartney asked him to sing Blackbird. Have you heard his version? OMG!!
< I am astounded that I found out about kenny Rankin a couple of weeks ago¡! ( ¿ where was I?) I LoVe 3 Male singers: Elling / Scaggs and... this guy !¡ >

Even Johnny Mathis would be proud! Great rendition.
Is there seriously anyone who even comes close to this man's gift?

tnx 4 sharing...!!! 1 of my very faves.....
gee Garick you really make it your own. It is wonderful, thanks.
Garrick Anders I take it you also knew Kenny. He was a wonderful man. A little tormented when I knew him in the early 1980s.
Wonderful effort! Own it, friend....none of us "measure up" to another artist....but we all can be the best "me" possible.
I hope I have this right, but when the Beatles were going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, McCartney asked him to sing Blackbird. Have you heard his version? OMG!!
This is the Kenny Rankin I knew.
