The really first Afterpunk band: sound, groove, guitar, singing- chants, truly GREAT, years ahead of everything.
And they played "Belsen Was a Gas"!!

Both Levene and Wobble agree with you! They have both been extremely complimentary of Jim Walker's drumming ability and his incredibly powerful playing. Both also have publicly lamented him leaving the band.
      | have often wished that we could've enjoyed more of their stunning creativity and, wildly dangerous musical genius going forward.
      RIP KEITH LEVENE

@@dougsmith7083 I did read that Walker got bullied a lot by 'hard nut geezer' Wobble which likely led to his departure [Walker's] Yes Jim was the best drummer PIL ever had, they should have made sure they held onto him.

I assume this is the Christmas Day 1978 gig, if not , do correct me. First time I heard this in relative entirety, sound quality fairly harsh [almost as if it is from a fan with a decent mono portable cassette recorder] however its wonderfully chaotic and the inter-song banter is vicious and priceless. Teriffic gem , so glad this exists.

No, their first gig was in Brussels. Second gig in Paris. Both warm ups for two London shows that followed. Incredible era for the band. Very intense and a whole new realm.

@@paull.6026 yea I bet.....reviews were very mixed...and even the band members havn't been all too kind to their early legacy....allways interested to hear accounts of this era though!

Was this the same gig where Lydon very decently hands out cans of beer to fans in the audience and some idiot lobs a full can right back into his face, I wonder.
