I didn't know that they had an emulation front end on the Mac side! I don't know which came 1st, but it's really similar to Launchbox on PC! It's also a great tool to record gameplay instead of plugging in the different consoles! I wonder if Open Emu uses Retroarch in the background to facilitate the emulation... because if it does, you can do a ton of modifications to upscale the graphics and frame rate of your games (if needed) but that involves a little bit more tinkering lol! ETA Prime is my go to channel regarding PC emulation and everything involving Launchnox since he's the one doing the tutorial videos for the application! So many options and possibilities out there in the emulation world! Great video and keep up the good work!

I was playing digimon world ds and while grinding I received a call from calamon to give me progres on the farm, however I couldn’t use the x button to skip past the dialog and neither could I use the mouse,is there any reason for this?

Hey Josh, I hope you're having a great week so far. So I decided to keep Uploading my Gameplays on RUclips because my external hard drives might get damaged some day and I don't want to lose all the Gameplays I already have. I didn't know that you could play Emulation on Mac but that's good news for those you use Mac, quick Update: I stopped recording B.O.T.W. not because it's a terrible Game but because the it was taking me forever to finish the Game and the files were huge.

Hope you're doing good too, ghost! Glad you're still at it and can't say I blame you on halting BOTW considering it's a MASSIVE game and you don't necessarily need 100 hours of footage to get the point across :p

@@YourPlayer2 Hey Josh, yeah, it's a shame because I was loving BOTW. I decided to keep recording Gameplays for RUclips just in case something bad happens to my external hard drives (hope not). By the way, did you stopped making streams or do I keep missing them?

Thanks man- I was honestly nervous about putting it out because even though I'm competent enough to get emulators working most of the time I wouldn't call myself like an EXPERT or anything. But hey, live and learn right? Take care!

@@YourPlayer2 From my experience, experts are overrated. I prefer people who are well rounded instead of singularly focused. Thus, you seem like you know your way around different emulators - so i find your opinion of significant value. 👌🏾

I've been enjoying experimenting with emulators for some years now, on different Macbooks. Since an OS upgrade I can't get Openemu to work with Neo Geo MAME and some Capcom MAME titles anymore. However, all my N64, PS1, PSP, Sega Mega Drive, Mega-CD, Saturn, SNES and most of my MAME titles work flawlessly and Openemu is a breath to work with. Just don't expect to get something like Sega Naomi running. I use Redream for emulating Dreamcast and FS-UAE for emulating an Amiga 1200 or CD32. Great stuff!

How to copy a complete install to a second Mac. This seems incredibly difficult. I copied all folders, the plist files and the library folder, yet it refuses to work and starts as fresh install. Very annoying. Why can't these programs run from a portable single folder without library usage.

I can't get arcade games to run in OpenEmu! What am I doing wrong? When I download arcade ROMs, I get a folder. I try dragging the folder into OpenEmu, it won't accept. If I go inside the folder, the files have names like "31a11-2.ic42", and if I highlight them all and drag them into OpenEmu (and import them all), they just stay in that exact state (a series of files doing nothing).

i have a new macbook Air (2022) with base componants ... and downloaded several games to try out for GameBoy Advanced. Was trying to Play Legend of Zelda Minish Cap and the game lags pretty bad... the music is sluggish and kind of annoying to play :( Is that because my Macbook isn't strong enough to handle it or are there settings that can be adjusted to make it run better?

I wouldn't think it would be an issue with the MacBook air since it's so recent. Although I will say Minish Cap was kind of an oddity for Zelda since it was developed by Capcom so maybe there's something particularly taxing about that title?

OpenEmu's UI is so good that I'm debating on whether to get a Mac again just to use it. I've genuinely never used a better multi-system emulator and it _kills_ me that it's not on Windows. I am pretty close to making a clone of it for Windows in C# / WPF, at least as a frontend for retroarch.

    • @spht9ng
      @spht9ng 2 года назад

It does not. It uses Mednafen which has the goal of being the most accurate PSX emulator. So the visuals are like 99% accurate to the original console which includes the low resolution. I personally prefer this because I'd rather my PSX games look like PSX games and not PC games but if you do want enhanced PSX emulation, I would use Retroarch with the Swanstation core (basically Duckstation). I do recommend looking up a video guide for it as Retroarch is quite a bit more complex and less user-friendly than OpenEmu.

  • @lovemadeinjapan

Dang, I miss quite a few options:
    - Console naming: I want to set the region to France, so Mega Drive, PC Engine, Super Nintendo.... impossible
    - Integer scaling: every pixel same size
    - Screen shot library instead of box art
    - Proper Command-S game saves, the toolbar sucks for it and gets you killed during save games.
    - Save game organising and overwrite. Now it becomes a mess quicky and you need to dive into the finder to fix things
    - No ROM duplication. Put a shortcut to the orginal location instead of duplicating everything
    - Escape back to menu. ESC does not work, Quit stops the whole emulator.
    - Control mapping memory. If you swap controllers, settings get lost. Remember mapping per controller.
    - Aspect ratio tweaking
I might prefer buying Emulator Enhancer, installing the Richard Banister emulators and launch games fromt the Finder when OpenEmu has som many bugs/annoyances.
