Why do I always end up watching Primus videos at 2 in the morning
Ikr, 1:00 am here
Procrastination …
2:46am
2.00 AM haha ando fucked up
3:49 AM
The real magic is this was one long uninterrupted shot.
That's what really impresses me about this video and the video for Smashing Pumpkins's "Ava Adore." Neither "Mr. Krinkle" or "Ava Adore" are my favorite songs of either band though.
"March of the Pigs" by Nine Inch Nails (the one where they're playing in the white room) was done in one take.
John Burns >says primus sucks
>Plays guitar hero
Michael Benedict now that's a funny joke
Otisnemes they suck hard
the world needs more artists, real artists like these guys.
We will never be able to receive more new artists because this is the generation where people will ALWAYS compare the new artists with the past artists, and say that they will never be as good as them
@@violetlunna no it's not, it's allways been like that, and will always be. All generations say the same.
@@violetlunna Zack Hill is a God on the drums. My favorite reaction by another drummer is of Zack.. New artists that are just as artistic exist. They just don't see much play. Look at what sleep party people does.. It's just 1 guy, and it's super artistic or Dan deacon, his stuff is musical art.
The problem most people have today is only listening to mainstream/radio when there are thousands of great talents out there just waiting to be discovered on the internet. They are just too lazy to seek them out and prefer other people telling them how to think and feel about music instead of thinking for themselves. I guess the pressure is on to not be that "weird dude" who has some odd playlist on their phone.
Kids these days tend to flock to the Chosen Ones on TV based on some washed up musical "authority" opinion of what's good and bad, and tbh most of it sounds like total dogshit to me. Why don't they let people call in and vote for what they like instead of having 4 judges decide. Rotation is rigged from top to bottom.
But we have taylor swift and Bruno Mars. Is that not enough? Dont be greedy 😂
Every time I hear a Primus song I want to get up and duck walk around the room.

I simply go a little nuts. 😈
I prefer to karate chop my throat tbh. Although my doctor told me not to
Do it
I know just what you mean
Some may not agree, but Les Claypool is a musical genius.
Agreed. 🤙✌
Agreed👌👌✊✊
Anyone who looks at the sheet music for Les' work would realize that lmao
If they don't thery plain old down right jealous...don't care if you like his style or not...he inspired genius haha
I agree
According to Claypool, he put his heart and soul into this video and it really shows imo. The dark gritty sound keeps me coming back to listen to this song's almost intoxicating sound
And his butt... dont forget his butt.
If he put all his soul in this, what kind of would does this mean have?
I can see that, the band always grove to their own music in the videos . And when he turns his instrument in certain positions it almost looks like he's sawing away at something
I don't think I don't think i speak the same language as everyone else
FULLY intoxicating 🔥🤤😈
Tim Alexander, one of the best drummers to ever get behind a kit.
My dad has always told me the same since I was a toddler and to this day, I believe he saw them live in the early 90’s as well if I’m not mistaken same with Tool
@@juicyjay831 I saw both bands in the early 90’s too. Your father and I are probably around the same age. The first time I saw Primus was at their infamous Woodstock 94 performance. It was a blast. I've seen Primus about 7 or 8 times since then and they always put on a great show. If you get the opportunity to see them, you should go.
The first time I saw Tool was in a club shortly after they released Undertow. I saw them again 4 years later, and they were headlining Lollapalooza. In just that short amount of time, they went from playing clubs to playing in front of 20,000 people. It was crazy.
All three are absolute virtuosos. Incredible chemistry in that line up with herb as well.

super crisp, super precise
The break towards the end of the song when he's repeating "mr krinkle"..that little guitar part has tripped me out for almost 30 years..

It's however many decades later, and this song still just pops into my head, out of nowhere, at least once a week.

it's because they suck 🎉
This song is pretty gangster in 2024.
Imagine anyone walking by that warehouse, hearing this and wondering whats going on inside... then figuring it out and wishing they hadn’t known
I’d probably die thinking that some messed up killer is having a party or something 🤣

@@fortheworldsecuritysystems1609 It's a double bass not a cello.
FYI, thats how a double bass actually sounds. hes not using a distortion pedal. by far the most metal acoustic instrument ever made.
The Bass in Franz Schubert's unfinished symphony is grimy.
Sounds like ever song should have one xD
What about the cello as used by apocalyptica?
It does sound pretty weird for a double bass though. Kinda rubbery, if that makes any sense

I saw Primus play this three nights ago and they fucking nailed it. They even had loops of the video going in the background behind the light show. An exceptional performance!

i saw them play this last night and i swear the bass they had was evil or something because DAMN it sounded so deep and it genuinely sounded like a demon calling out
I always bring up Primus ,when someone tells me that the bass is a simple background instrument.
Not the way claypool does it. Its the reason metallica didnt want him. Hes not a background guy. He had too much talent for what metallica wanted, which was basically a studio musician.
Rush I think too.
Any instrument can be a background instrument. Who ever says that the bass is a simple background instrument is retarded and should be slapped in the face
Pedro Viteri As a Bass player for over 30 years, I agree, it's not a simple instrument but it is fun.
Mouse Frizz Johnny Greenwood slaps his guitar all the time
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate the fact that this music video was all done in one continuous shot.
Yep. It was produced over the three-day Memorial Day weekend of 1993, in an abandoned warehouse in San Francisco. They rehearsed the choreography and set ups for two and a half days and then blew through the filming in a single take.
Ava Adore from smashing pumpkins too
It's also not lost on all of us that the person who wrote this comment wants everyone to know that they are gay and or gay friendly as if that would or is important to anyone at all or will ever be!!! I'm straight but do I have to have a symbol or purposely make it an issue for everyone to know what my sexual preferences? So WHY do homosexuals make it an issue,so everyone and their mother knows who they have sex with!????;!!??? Put the flag a way please pretty pretty please 🙏 I'm sure you pray 🙏💯 so please please 🙏 put the gay flag a way and represent yourself without telling everyone that your gay no1 cares. represent yourself on your own ideas and character and then we'll see how far that gets you maybe that's why you've been running off the gay flag for so long. But in all seriousness I wish you all the best god 🙏😇 bless and I'm sure I'm going to 💯 get a big back lash for this but in all seriousness it's worth it I love you guys muuaah!
Riena Ochoa I honesty hope you step on a nail
@Random Entertainment what's the issue with what I said I'm not a Jesus fanatic I love all people but I just don't understand why everybody needs to know everybody else's sexual preference, I've never felt the need to give everybody else or tell everybody else what my sexual preference was or is! By the way FYI there was a time I was confused and didn't know which way it was going sexually( by the way I'm not saying I'm gay or not) but now for you to tell me that I'm wrong in thinking and feeling the way I think and feel is f'd up, I have no problem with you feeling the way you feel I believe you are entitled to that. But for you to hate me and or accuse me of being some of type of homophobic bigot is the farthest thing from the truth and if anything it makes you the you ignorant jerk the thing is is homosexuals now are becoming the majority and you all are becoming the bigots
Primus is such a unique band. I love them
One of Les' strongest traits is his ability to craft an atmosphere... that bass "riff" the song is based around, combined with the muddy, gritty tone of it immediately harbors feelings of unease/anxiety.
Primus are goddamn kings.
I cant believe MTV played this video 6 times before they shelved it. It's effing brilliant. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It's not like they've ever shown appreciation or even realized what art in video is or can be. Primus is terribly underrated.
Yeah, Toyota made great cars.
@@BaccarWozat whoops. Although, I did own a 96 Toyota Avalon that had 320,000 miles on it when I traded it in, so you're not wrong. Damn autocorrect doesn't even know who Primus is.

Indeed, Primus sucks.
Really? 6? They must have been inundated by “primus sucks” calls whenever they played it.
I think it’s really impressive being super weird without crossing that line into really scary or morbid. Yeah this is kind of creepy but if you’re familiar with Les claypool it’s not, you just bask in its weirdness. I just love how he isn’t weird just for the sake of it or to shock people, it’s his own brand of weirdness. What an artist
weird?
Clay's weirdness is very tolerable BECAUSE he's one of the most brilliant bass players ever lived, period. And so is Buckethead on guitar.
I dont even notice whats going on. Just the piggy slaying the bass.
@@greedo2660 yes.
I dunno this is a pretty morbid song.....

The talent of les isn't always in a bass lines complexity, it's that he thought it up, brought ler and whichever drummer along, and sings wild lyrics in a wild way, while strutting or dancing around an upright. It's all unique

I’m in the school orchestra and the bassist is so good. I’m telling him to learn this.
I remember when I saw this for the first time when I was up in Philadelphia visiting from Texas and was at an older cousin's house. We had stayed downstairs and lit a joint and afterwards, watched TV, in which this freak video came on. I was just staring at it with my mouth agape. I never forgot that moment in time. I must've been about 19 or so. I'm 48 now. It still takes me back!
I remember seeing this on MTV and never saw it again. Found out on Wikipedia that MTV only aired it 6 times. I guess it was too edgy for its time.
+ThoughtfulThug I find that hard to believe...I swear I watched this song more than once on MTV as a kid and it isnt like I had it on 24/7 or anything...anythings possible I guess tho ;p
+ThoughtfulThug it says "like 6 times" but still not enough though lol
+KSI xKrauss Les says in the commentary of this on the 'Animals' dvd that mtv aired it only a handful of times, but he may have been wrong. Maybe Meng did see it more than that?
i'm not saying he didn't see it more, I was only quoting Wikipedia
+ThoughtfulThug Happy I saw it 2 out of the 6 times it was aired back in the 90s.

of all the side shows going on in the background, my favorite is the man on fire casually walking by in the beginning of the video. i replayed that part several times and you notice when he first walks on screen the flames are only up to the middle of his back. by the time he gets to the other side the top of his head is on fire. you can see him speed up or broaden his last step as he exits off screen, probably because he was getting slowly engulfed. i didn't think about it before but that "theater smoke" was the fire extinguishers quickly putting out the fire. at :43 it looks like Les casually sneaks a look to his left to check out the action off set. please mr. krinkle tell me why i have watched this video too many times...
@Rigidity11 • When they're choosing the order to shoot this whole thing in one shot, I'm certain setting someone on fire inside of a building with a ton of combustible stage props and people around needed to go pretty early. Don't get that shot right, you roll 'em around and go again from the top.
I'm curious how many times, or takes did they go, to get all that in one shot? They've never failed to amaze me. Primus sucks though
i like so many others remember seeing this as a kid at like 2 or 4am and wondering if i was dreaming it or what was up cus i NEVER seen it or heard it again and this video haunted me for what feels like 20 years, and im FINALLY just now seeing it again..feel like i just closure or something on my childhood lol
Fun fact, it was so weird, MTV played it a grand total of only 7-8 times. The Pig (Les Claypool) was super pissed because of the amount of work they put into shooting a single shot music video.
I blame Headbanger's Ball....
But, that being said, Les Claypool is seriously underappreciated. At the risk of sounding like a hipster, or something, this is damn art, as creepy and weird as you may find it, and he has inspired many a serious bassist in his time.
I saw this in the daytime as a pre-teen on RUclips and it freaked me out and disturbed me.
I can only imagine what unexpectedly seeing it on TV as a young kid at like 2:00 AM would be like.
Me too. I was terrified. I used to wake up and watch TV when I was like 8 or 10. This came on right after watching a freddy movie one night. This pig scared the hell out of me. Freddy had nothing on him. Idk if I ever saw it again til now.
If this video is the object of your childhood nightmares then i think it's safe to say you kids will be just fine. imsaying
*This also used to come on at 2am on MTV back in the day... Waking up and seeing this was odd nonetheless.*
I used to terrify my half sister by showing her this video. I told her that the pig man creeps into bedrooms, grabs kids, and eats them.

Most under rated band of our time.
Tri-County Radio Dramas i guarantee you right now if i went into Times Square and started asking random people if they’d heard of Primus, maybe 3 out of every 100 people would say yes.
3 out of every 100 people is really high. You just proved his point lol.
Went to see tool. Saw Primus open. No shit I'd go see primus again ahead of tool any day now.
