I used this song as an example in my speech class in high school. It was our intro class, we only had to sell the class our favorite band. My intro was- "As you all know, I've been sniffing paint since seventh grade". I got an A+ and rode steady all semester.
The amount of crazy technical riffs in this song blow my mind. Like as a musician and listening to each individual instrument, these guys are fuckin experts at times scales cause the bpm to this song is all over the place and yet... All Three are in key with one another.
Primus isn't my favorite band, but they have the most unique sound I've ever heard. It's a unique fusion of funk and metal and sometimes even bluegrass. Claypool isn't afraid to play what he loves, and that is always easy when you don't play a very popular kind of music. Love Primus. Love Deep Purple. Can't We all just get along?
I actually worked on a painting crew run by a lacquerhead one time. Instead of ventilating a house, he'd seal it up completely with plastic, remove his respirator, and spray lacquer on all the woodwork. Wispy clouds of lacquer mist would grow thick and hang oddly in the air, and he would just bathe in it. I tried it for five minutes one time...yeah...it sets your head on fire. Very odd, but definitely pleasant. And you vibrate at about 60 hz. I had lacquer breath for hours afterward...just like alcohol breath after a pint of whiskey. He was 45, but looked like a pale, ghoulish 70. Nice guy, though.
awsm The drums here are blood pumping, some parts are simple.. but depending on the style and if used correctly, you get stand out drums and punch in the face.
Primus is one of those bands you have to be ready for, problem is there's no way to prepare a first time listener for it. Music that lives in its own universe

I like that the hallucinations are represented by previous Primus music videos. Never set my skull on fire, myself, but if I were to do so, I imagine it'd be like much like one such video; clay-mation, Tom Waits and people with horribly large heads and shiny plastic skin.

Correct on all details except that was Kalamazoo State Theater. I was there too. I saw them many times at the State in Detroit but only once in Kzoo.
This guys were ahead of their time, and I think even by today standards. That's the reason why their music weren't that popular such other bands.
