I so enjoyed this interview. Great questions and pacing but the most compelling of all is the amount of passion you can feel from both the guest and the interviewer towards the subject. This always seemed as a great collection to me but in this video you actually can see the amount of love thats behind it which makes complete sense.
Glad you enjoyed it! Your comment really made my day!
Bro this Chanel is truly the best toy channel out here. While every other Chanel is cynical and hateful and use anger and hate to get people to watch, Carbon Scoring uses the love we all have for collecting. You are truly an inspiration to me and one day when I get to your age, I hope to still have that same passion and love for collecting. In a world filled with hate, anger, and cynicism you are the light at the end of the tunnel. To me you, are like the Superman of toy channels.
Fantastic line indeed. Up here in Canada, they go for around $18 cnd, a bit too expensive for kids to get them for pocket money which this line would have been great for them.
Yeah at that price they peg warm a lot here ,i find Venom and the Thing at dolorama and there a lot of marvel retro figure at discount store too now !!
Thanks so much for hosting me Trey. Thoroughly enjoyed our chat!! Cheers! Steve (@mrstevie18)
Pleasure was all mine! Will do it again soon!
Yours is the only channel that has outstanding comment forum about the Kenner line and you ask all the questions I’d like asked. Totally agree about a Doctor Strange figure! Would love to see him get the “Kenner” treatment someday! I subscribed and can’t wait for another episode!!!
Gotta have a Savage She-Hulk like the cover of her #1.
You need to unpause this line and do each one as Marvel Zombies.
@@CantosHype thanks so much! Hopefully you have enjoyed all the content since you joined!
colossus, nightcrawler; quicksilver and a classic hawkeye will be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
Oh, no doubt!
I really love the Retro 3.75 line and hope for it's return. Would love to see the brown Wolverine in the first return assortment with the black added to his boots!
I honestly think the Retro line would have been more sought out by collectors if the packaging was more stylized towards a retro look. The illustrations should have been taken right from the old 70’s-80’s comics, with the Ben Day dot colour separation, some filter to emulate that era’s film quality, even a Collect ‘em All checklist on the back. Super7 does amazing work on their cards, collectors actually get them to keep on card and display this way. Looking forward to the return, I hope they try something a bit different.
Those are really great ideas - while I love the front of the card art, I really miss checklists on the back - that would have been a huge upgrade for sure!
I'm sure many would like that look but not me. When I see t-shirts and calendars with that 60s thru early 80s art it bothers me because its all from several different artists and doesn't look cohesive.
That's why I like John Tyler Christopher's art on the Retro line. It emulates earlier artists while still staying fresh.
Steve is great! I love his energy! I was gutted that the MLR375 was put on rest. I'm hoping they'll give us a Pulse Exclusive from time to time.
It was my sense talking to him that he isn’t ready to be finished with this line!
Great interview! Loved supporting Retro 375 and can't wait to pick up the new 4in line as well. Great size for toys!
exactly - TOYS! That is what this is all about!
I saw those new 4 inch epic heroes look pretty cool
I actually picked them up after this video launched - they are super fun!
I'm hoping there's a plan to bring them back even if it's next year give a guy some hope
I noticed the other half of carbons face is the 1994 Spider-Man on the fox channel
Cool❤
I honestly didn't notice that till you pointed it out for me
@@lisaaitchison8421 thanks for acknowledging me
We Love the new Epic Heroes 4inch line. Please give Us as many MU Characters possible. Thanks! 👍
Me too!
I know I am gonna love it already
This line was great
One of the best!
My wallet is on rest until 3.75 returns.
Yes, the only good thing about the announcement is that I won't be spending so much money.
I wish we got my favorite the Juggernaut !!!
Oh yeah! He would be cool!
I really appreciate the positive conversation enjoying figures. With so much collector negativity, we forget we are in the golden age of collecting
Thanks for the kind words - I truly believe you can have a positive talk about a shared passion without simply “sucking up” - I’m glad that came across!
@@CarbonScoring you are gracious. But I’m going to be honest, anyone accusing collectors/RUclipsrs of being “shills/suck ups”. Are just jaded angry fanboys, and are mad that everyone doesn’t share their jadedness, it’s the golden age of collecting, if they can’t find a toy line that makes them happy, they never will. Sorry for the rant, love your videos
i thought 3&4 inch quarter marvel figures died many years ago...based on the thumbnail of this video i can say that they definitely look much better than previous marvel 3&4 inch quarter figures, the paint job is absolutely fantastic! this is the paint job i except from 6 inch action figures!
This newer line was a clear improvement from a paint standpoint
Great interview! I personally don't have any of these figures but I do take time to admire them and you can totally tell they are made from a place of love and made by fans for fans
Thanks J - Glad that came across!
@@CarbonScoring I really love the way you do your interviews they're mellow and fun
amazing interview! so spot on, and an incredible line. Really hope they grow it exponentially
these toys look so cool on a display shelf and my lunch box for storage. i bet theyd look cool on a pile of dirt, in a sandbox or the bathtub!
If you ever talk to him again, ask him if they’ve ever thought about making play sets or vehicles like the super powers line, fantasticar would sell like hotcakes!
I’d like to ask that! This interview happened before those hit the market - I just got the Bleu Beetle Bug ship and it is fantastic! I’d love to see something like this for Marvel!!!
"Rested"? I cant think of a single toyline that has been canceled and come back again as the same exact thing. It's always different enough to be a new toy series.
Steve mentions the Star Wars 3.75 vintage line as an example, but overall, you are correct
I hope that they try to recreate the old classics ones older people grew up with
What hooked me on this line was the generous servings of Fantastic Four. And I'm not just talking about the OG members, we got a bunch of the alternative team members. I never would have expected a Ghost Rider (not Ketch, but whatever) and classic Luke Cage but here we are. If the line ever comes back I'd want a Byrnes era She-Hulk and maybe complete the Secret Wars roster (ie. the characters in the comic, not necessarily the toyline).
Yes! I have been very clear in my desire to complete the Secret Wars cast!
Love those Megos behind you!
I have a plan for a video that will feature them prominently when I hit 50K subs…
Man I love your channel every Saturday I look forward to your new videos
Thanks! You won't believe what I have planned next...
Great content
I'm a big fan of 3.75 inch line but me and a lot of collectors wants the return of marvel universe line, like stars wars vintage collection, epic heroes series and retro 3.75 are a great lines but needs more articulations and characters
Great video (as always!) I really enjoyed the conversation!
Thanks, Jim! Steve was awesome and an easy interview!
Amazing man great interview
Thanks for watching - Steve was awesome for doing this!
Carbon scoring thanks you have taught me a lot about marvel comics and Spider-Man and recently Batman I know a lot now cuz of you
That is awesome - I am so happy to share the knowledge I have stored up over the years!
I own 2. I like them because they remind me of the Secret Wars figures. I wish they were an inch taller so they could be mixed with DC Superpowers. Steve overthought the whole What If 1982 license thing. "We can't treat it as if it's1984." Why not? It's make-believe. You could have said, What if Kenner made DC and Marvel at the same time.
I really loved the whole concept of placing the line in 1982 - I think it brought some cool grounding and history to the project - now of course, they veered from it occasionally (Venom, for example) - but learning the back story was one of my favorite parts
secret wars toys was why I wanted these. simple, nice colors, a nice size to other 3 3/4" figures. nice 5 pt articulations. secret wars ended. so many holes. if this ends, I started another line that will have holes for major characters.
drats
I really hope if it's going to end, I really hope they do 1 last 2pack...maybe a transparent invisible girl and doc ock. They'll feel complete with those 2.
On the 2nd thought it should be a marvel retro 3.75 3pack, transparent invisible girl, doc ock and iron fist 👊 then marvel retro 3.75 would feel completed.
I agree - Iron Fist is a must for this line!
doc oak! I forgot about him for my long list of, WE WONT GET...
Man I really wanted doctor strange so bad…
yep. he's another I didn't think of. a Conan, red sonja or kazar too.
Well, Kenner would have never made Marvel figures like the retro collection. How they made the Super Powers figures is how they would have made Marvel Figures. It was Mego that made 5 points of articulated superhero figures - both Marvel and DC. Even Mattel made 5 points of articulated figures- Secret Wars. Remember, Kenner was all about making sure their toys had a "toyetic" quality, that's why their DC heroes had a fighting gimmick. So, yea, Kenner would have never made Marvel figures without a toyetic gimmick.
I'm not sure I agree with you - I thought Steve's explanation of what Kenner was producing at the time made sense for 1982
@@CarbonScoring First of all, Superpowers came out in the summer of 84, how do I know? Because after the first commercial came out, I pulled out the "We really do care" flyer from my stash, called the number and inquired when would the toys reach my home town. I never forgot. The rep on the other line said " Look for them in July." With that said, since they came out in '84, it means they pitched the idea around '82, began production in '83 to have product on shelf by the shelf by summer of 84. Secondly, that same year. '82, they made Raiders figures, remember? Did they make them 5 POA? No they had action features (toyetic quality) to make them more appealing. Kenner always looked at their toy licenses with that it mind. You can say that if the IP didn't have a toyetic quality to it, they wouldn't go after it. Several years earlier, they went after the Six Million Dollar Man, why, because the character had toyetic qualities. You looked through the back of his head because the TV character had that magnification type of vision, he was bionic so you could pull a flap on his skin to reveal his bionic machinery, the character was also super strong, so one version came with a metal beam he could lift by moving a mechanism in his back. The Star Wars figures didn't need to be toyetic because the ships and the playsets created battle sounds and action features that simulated lightsaber battles and blasting action levers. So it became obvious as to what the toyetic quality would be for superheroes- fighting action because that's what heroes and supervillians do, they fight. Toybiz did better research, they followed Kenner's lead with the early Marvel figures- they had toyetic features.
@@richardvasquez1666 You are spot on with all of that, but Steve was still just trying to explain the approach they took when creating the line - that is all
I've got vision green goblin electro bullseye Cyclops and magneto from this line but @carbonscoring let's be honest when it comes to comics no Gillian comes close to the green goblin
I would've like a hobgoblin too. and a jack o lantern!
I love these things they are basic in a good way and they are awesome
I love them too!
I had no interest in 4 inch but this interview has made me consider getting the spidey figures
My favorite figure in this line is moon knight what is yours
Moon Knight is great - I go back and forth from Dr. Doom to Thor to the Amazing Fantasy 15 Spidey!
The Man Called Nova!
Cool carbon❤
It was a really fun interview - hopefully that came across
It's still such a bummer that this line is now, a year later, pretty much over ("Sleeping"/"on hold"/ whatever the given phrase was). Looking back now, I kniw we were luxky to get 8 waves but am amazed with what was left out. A Vision but no Scarlet Witch when she was at her greatest height of public fame ever during this run, especially with her show having had her in her classic costume from this early 80s era? No Colossus or Nightcrawler? I hope they pull it together to at least do one last wave filling in these holes. They almost have Byrne's X-Men complete. And the late 70s/early 80s Avengers needs Wanda to finish it feel complete (though Wonder Man and Beast would complete it, With Tigra being the icing on the cake). Angel and Hercules would be great too so we can have the core Champions as well as boost 70s X-Men and Avengers. But I fear once again there no hope of getting the two true most iconic 80s Marvel franchises: Team America and U.S. Archer (sigh).
I will ask about this line if I get the chance at San Diego in a couple of weeks
@@CarbonScoring Awesome! Much appreciated.
I meant villian not Gillian
Do you know Casper?
The Friendly Ghost?
@@CarbonScoring Yes. More specifically, the movie from 1995.
I appreciated the retro stylings of the line and dedication, but elbows and knees would have made me a lot more excited for the line. I'm excited to see this newer one take off, and I will definitely be picking up that Venom! Maybe the new Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur show could fit in this line?
Also, Steve's enthusiasm is infectious. I know these guys catch a LOT of flack, but they're passionate and I genuinely believe they're trying their best.
Totally agree! Plus - that is a GREAT idea about Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!!!
