D.C. Fontana, who you mentioned writing Journey to Babel, was one of the main story editors for the first 2 seasons of the show alongside Gene Coon and Rodenberry. She did tons of uncredited script rewrites for a lot of the best episodes of the series, and she was kind of the defacto facilitator of what was "trek" and what wasn't. She helped establish a lot of the rules of the universe and did a lot to expand the lore of the show, especially Vulcan culture. Also she wrote some great episodes in season 3 under the (now in retrospect hilarious) pseudonym of Michael Richards.
In the 60s some outdated cultural norms made it necessary to use some subterfuge. D.C. Fontana was a woman (I forgot her whole name) at a time when women weren't necessarily accepted in the industry . Thus initials for the first name.
You are mistaken regarding the Trouble With Tribbles episode. You may not find it very memorable now, but someday you will be watching that bar fight with, and from, a whole new perspective.
Loved that you went back to the workout routine joke in the end there...😁 But yeah I was fully entertained I gotta say 48 minutes and not a dull moment. Whatever you guys are doing you are doing it right.
It's unfortunate that some people got as upset as they did about Doomsday Machine. It's absolutely my favorite episode of the whole series, I don't know how many times I've watched it, but I can understand why it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. I'm very excited for season 3 (but also being patient so as not to bother you two). Love your reactions, keep up the awesome work!
It’s interesting, I hated Doomsday Machine as a kid. It scared me as a kid, and I loathed the guest commander (loved him on Murder She Wrote though!). I always skipped it as a kid, but I’m watching all the episodes with these brilliant fellas. I wonder if I could limit myself to a top ten, or would have to do a top 20.
I like it that Alex chose "A Private Little War" as his #1 Season Two episode. My own picks for #1 and #2 are predictable, the same as Josh's and in the same order, but I've always thought "A Private Little War" is underrated. I feel the same way about "Bread and Circuses" and "Wolf in the Fold." I don't believe I'd put any of those three in my Top 10, but they're better than most fans my age seem to think. (I'm 63 and watched Star Trek during its original run). Watching younger guys watch this show for the first time is fun. It gives me some perspective on what aged well and what didn't. I don't watch any other reaction videos, but I like Alex and Josh because they never overreact. Either they're not faking a thing, or they both deserve academy awards.
You'll be happy to know Dorothy Fontana also wrote what most fans consider the best episod of the animated series and the one they would put in canon. Like many female writers at the time she went by her initials, D.C., - and you thought sexism was a new thing.
In Amok Time, you like the CGI shot showing the city in the background. You'll soon find that it was the city of Shikar, which will be seen in the animated series episode "Yesteryear".
Growing up in the 70's, I watched Star Trek:TOS in syndication. The episodes were in random order. I had no idea what season they were in or the air order so this is great to put things in an order I could never relate to.
I can minorly pick nits with both lists but frankly I am very surprised that The Doomsday Machine didn't even get an honorable mention from Josh, much less make his top ten for this season. William Windom's portrayal of Decker was excellent and arguably one of the best guest star performances in TOS.
Damn guys. Gonna have to rage quit since Trouble With Tribbles didn't make the top 10. :p I think favorites kinda become favorites when you've seen the episodes several times as when we were growing up and would see the series several times. Plus age may reveal some new appreciation for episodes one didn't like before. Probably having seen the episodes at least 10 times each, that's how we really came to get our favorites. If I come home from school and see an episode of Trek is on, I always sat to watch it. And that's why Doomsday Machine is mine. It's the story, character, spaceship action.. so cool. But great list guys!
After listening to Josh on this video I think season 3 might be his favorite! My own list falls closer to Alex's. The first episode of season 3 should be telling. This channel is great guys - I guess I will have to keep watching for the next 20 years to see all the Trek reactions. I can't believe you've convinced be to watch Buffy!
I like the lower budget, late '60's vibe of Season 3. I think it, and producer Fred Friberger get a bad rap & I have.more favorites, like "The Enterprise Incident", from it than Season 1. Enjoy! 👍
I'm sure you'll get a ton of this; it's an easy mistake to make. D.C. Was Dorothy. She chose to use D.C. because she didn't think anyone would hire a woman to write sci-fi. One of the best episodes of DS9 (You'll get to it sometime around 2027) has a character based on her.
Your reaction to "A Private Little War" was very similar to how I felt watching Thundercats as a kid. And then again as an inebriated adult. Kinda like Fred in Galaxy Quest. Anyway, hope you get as much enjoyment out of what's to come in the Star Trek universe as I have.
It’s fine if you speed through season three. At least you’re being honest about your reasons for that. But don’t sell at short! It sounds like you already have preconceptions to a degree. Just enjoy it for what it is! There’s still a lot of good episodes.
43:10 In the first two seasons, if you find yourself asking that question, and it's in any way related to a woman the answer is always "because Gene Roddenberry was horny." "People often ask me will you ever stop using women as sex objects in your projects? No, I will not. As a young man I used to be a sex object, and I found it quite fun." - Gene Roddenberry. Creative genius, and utter horndog.
I’m glad to see that The Immunity Syndrome is one of your favourites. I don’t like it and it’s one of the least liked episodes, but I like that you’ve connected with it! It’s good to see an original opinion for once.
I love this guys. I think my subjective preferences align a bit more closely to Alex (in terms of selections), although I tend to agree with Josh's criticism and reasoning more. Surprised to see A Private Little War rank so highly for both of you (as it's never been one of my personal favorites). Also a bit surprise to see The Doomsday Machine not make Josh's list, although I get it. My top ten are: 1. Mirror, Mirror 2. Amok Time 3. The Doomsday Machine 4. The Trouble with Tribbles 5. Journey To Babel 6. A Piece of the Action 7. The Immunity Syndrome 8. Obsession 9. The Ultimate Computer 10. By Any Other Name Honorable mentions are: Bread and Circuses, Who Mourns for Adonais, and Assignment Earth While I know Assignment Earth is questionable, I really enjoy time-travel episodes. Especially ones that have Star Trek characters trying to negotiate our contemporary world without getting found out or breaking the timeline.
Guys!! BABYLON 5!! The way you guys break these shows down, you will LOVE Bab 5. JMS basically created a 5 volume story arch. He wrote seasons 3 and 4 himself. Which I believe set a record for number of script written in a row. It contains story arches that last seasons. He filmed the last episode before he did season 5, because he knew how he wanted it to end. His characters grow and change through the seasons. If you guys have not seen this show, it would be great for your channel. But then, you have SO much Star Trek to still get through. Does anybody else envy these guys?
Season three is a dilly: filled with some treats and a lot of tricks. But never boring. It's the only season I bought and have in my collection. Go figure. There are three, maybe four, episodes that are top notch and as good as any in the first two seasons. D.C. Fontana was the chief story editor for both Logan's Run and Fantastic Journey, a couple of 70's shows worth watching and reviewing.
I have to admit something weird about myself regarding that 'Cat's Paw' open. Every few months or so out of nowhere I start humming "Captain Kirk.... No idea why, but it just comes out.
Fair warning: season 3's episodes will be more uneven in quality than either seasons 1 or 2. NBC moved the show to a horrible time slot (10pm Fridays), cut the budget, and Gene Roddenberry, exhausted from his battles with the network during the show's run, stepped back from day-to-day involvement. Still some good episodes but for the bad ones, you guys may want to don your Mystery Science Theater 3000 hats.
Loved your discussion on A Private Little War. I'm going to watch it again soon because I think I'll never see it again like I once did. I'm already LMAO
I think a lot of people need to chill out a bit regarding your reactions. TOS is one thing, but some movies and TNG episodes, also some DS9 episodes are some people's all time favorite thing... including red letter media, who got you interested in this. And it's perfectly possible that you will not like one of those fan favorite episodes at all. And that's fine. People shouldn't get mad at you for that. After all, it's not like the episode is any less special to a person just because you didn't like it also :) Of course we all hope that you enjoy the episodes that we enjoy also, because this is a bit like introducing two great friends to shows we enjoy so much. But if you have to second guess your own reaction, then the fun goes away. So ignore those people and keep doing what you're doing :) And if someone is overreacting, just realize it's probably less about you, and more about the passion people feel for these shows. And that passion has become a little protective over the years as we've all witnessed our favorite franchises being handled by people who don't know the first thing about them. That made the old original stuff all the more precious and some people I guess become a little too protective of them. Don't let that bother you too much.
Tremendous job, TA, and thanks. I think I may share some of Josh's romantic outlook, so I hope that someday you may catch -- if you haven't already -- the original Outer Limits. Josh likes a good score, and OL had a GREAT composer, Dominic Frontiere. Episodes to appreciate may be The Sixth Finger, The Man Who Was Never Born, and Demon With a Glass Hand. Controlled Experiment is deliberately funny (featuring Grace Lee Whitney, Star Trek's Yeoman Rand), while A Feasibility Study is simply shattering. Something perhaps to be appreciated in the years ahead. Steady as she goes, warp factor two.
Season 3 is largely considered the lesser of the three seasons. But given some of your favorites, least favorites, and some you're luke warm about, I'm thinking you might like season 3 more than most do.
Great to see you back in the new year with more trek, have been enjoying so far and looking forward to watching the season 3 reactions. Mirror Mirror is one of my favorite trek episodes of all of the series so glad to see it appearing high on the list for you both. If interested, hallmark did a keepsake series of this episode with their story teller ornaments which gives a shortened roughly 10 minute presentation of this episode with the main lines of dialogue, the 7 crew and a light up Enterprise, well worth the investment and a reminder of a very good episode.
Not sure if you knew this, but the Ted Sturgeon who wrote for Star Trek is the same one behind Sturgeon's Law, which states (there's various versions): "Ninety percent of everything is crap." Sturgeon wrote the screenplays for "Shore Leave" and "Amok Time," plus an unused screenplay that introduced the idea of the "Prime Directive." Sturgeon also prefigured the Artist Previously Known as Prince by appending a Q with an arrow through it as part of his signature, intended to remind everyone to "Ask the next question." ;)
I'm surprised Doomsday Machine made Alex's top ten. I thought they were BOTH kinda down on that episode? The Commodore made Alex angry, and I think he'd rather be angry than plain bored. That anger ironically put Doomsday Machine in his top ten!
I watched Star Trek when it first aired back in the 60’s. Mirror Mirror was my favorite ep of the entire series back then and it still is! My top ten season 2 eps 1.Mirror Mirror 2.Amok Time 3.Journey to Babel 4.The Trouble with Tribbles 5.Metamorphosis 6.By Any Other Name 7.Return to Tomorrow 8.Obsession 9.The Gamesters of Triskelion 10.A Piece of the Action Expect some bad eps in season 3, accept that's just how it is and then you can enjoy the really good ones!
@@AlphanPeter I wouldn't go that far with that assessment. Freiberger was given a bad hand. The budget was slashed, Roddenberry had less involvement, etc. Freiberger produced the first half of Season 1 of The Wild Wild West, the best of WWW's four season, though the other seasons weren't bad either. Freiberger actually made Season 2 of Space:1999 a little better than Season 1.
I just scratch my head - some episodes I really do not like and some I dearly love, but Id never let a TV show come between me and another person (especially an online person that I dont know personally). Im sorry people have been so crappy to you. The more you learn about what is happening behind the scenes the more things make sense. Where the stories come from, what the seasons roll out like, what the guest stars were like, etc. My weakness is the continuity/sciency stuff - I want everything to seem realistic so episodes like Bread and CIrcuses are not favorites but you are right - that episode has some really great character work and interaction. If it just deleted all the references to ancient Rome I would have liked it so much more.
Love the channel. I am not quite old enough to remember the original release dates, but I did see them as re-runs in the early seventies. I loved the classic Trek. And now I get to remember through you two guys what it was like to be amazed by good stories. Were these stories told well? Maybe not every episode, but at that same time they were new and original. When you watch the episode, think about the world at the time it was shot in. Most of the episodes have a lot of social commentary about what was happening at the time. Season 3 is full of those commentaries. Again I love your channel! Good luck and I will be watching and laughing and loving along with you all.
Whenever a new employee started at our company my friends and I, as we passed by, would say things such as, "I bet 500 quatloos that the newcomer cannot be trained and will have to be destroyed."
Assignment Earth gets no love here - but there were a lot of great ideas and plot elements in that story - and Robert Lansing played the part of Gary Seven perfectly. I think one of the reasons the episode resonates with me, is that I grew up during that time - when we all feared a nuclear attack would really happen. This story exploited that fear to make a very suspenseful Star Trek show. Without the fear element, I believe this episode loses some weight with first-time viewers. Just my opinion, though.
I hate it when futuristic shows go to modern day Earth. If you do a fantastic job, you can somewhat overcome this issue, but even "The City on the Edge of Forever" fails to crack my top 10.
You guys should have a top 10 list for most amazing female guest appearances. My vote is for Zarabeth from season 3 and Lee Meriwether playing Larissa in that which survives from season 3
Always a fun endeavour. I like the comedy ones more than you do: 1. The Trouble with Tribbles 2. Mirror Mirror 3. Journey to Babel 4. The Doomsday Machine 5. I, Mudd 6. Amok Time 7. A Piece of the Action 8. Bread and Circuses 9. By Any Other Name 10. Wolf in the Fold
Gled you guys are enjoying the show. Appreciate these discussion end of the season videos you two are doing. This is the kind of thing that makes the channel unique to you. I hope you consider the original Twilight Zone as a series to watch. It is a wonderful anthology show.
Alex, I know you thought Amok Time was the greatest season opener ever, but just wait til you watch season 3... First episode is gunna blow your mind...
You guys are great - as someone who has watched the series since it was on in reruns everyday after school in the '70s. it is refreshing that you make note of the various writers and directors as well. Also, it is very interesting that some episodes that I and many other fans would rate VERY highly without a second guess - Doomsday Machine, Ultimate Computer), you don't rate very well, and others that I could live without (Bread and Circuses, A Private Little War) you think very highly of. I am curious - I could go back and watch your reaction, I know - but what was it about the Ultimate Computer, which I think is one of the season's best, that left you underwhelmed? Buckle up for season 3 - no doubt you're aware of the season's reputation for declining quality, but there are a few gems hidden among the rubble. Will be curious to see what you think.
Season 3 has some good episodes. Season 3 also has some of the worst episodes. I think if you look at TOS on a graph, the first season is the most consistently good throughout. I think Season 2 has a few that peak a little higher, but then also a few more that dip much lower. I think Season 3 basically continues that trend. Season 3 does have a few of my personal favorites like "Day of the Dove" and "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield." Not to get into any kind of spoilers, but it's important to understand that with Season 3, it almost didn't even happen. It was a lot of fans throwing so much of a fit with letter writing that the Execs at NBC literally went on the air and said "Stop sending us mail, Star Trek will get another season." That's not even a joke or an exaggeration. That literally happened. So the Trekkie fandom nucleus was there all along... But Gene got kicked off the project, the budget was cut, and the timeslot kept changing. The new producer tried his best, but it was pretty evident that things were not going the way they should. Leonard Nimoy apparently started having a major drinking problem throughout Star Trek, and it became really bad with Season 3. Many of the cast were starting to look elsewhere. Walter Koenig was really upset, because the plan for Season 3 was to give a lot more to do for Chekov, but due to the timeslot changes and the budget changes, a number of episodes that were going to prominately feature Chekov were rewritten.
I actually like Spectre of the Gun, even though I thinks it’s Second-Tier Trek. But at least it’s not Spock’s Brain. I also feel the last episode is a bit cringe.
This applies to movies too but I find it impossible to decide my favorite episodes. I’d have to make written notes I guess. It’s easy to choose terrible or great episodes but see ties everywhere. U guys do excellent work. Later, dudes!
Season 3 will have two weddings, several really good Spock/McCoy moments as well as Big 3 moments, a few characters that will make appearances in other ST series, a couple dips into Shakespeare, Scotty's regrettable new hair style, and 5 of my least favorite episodes. Enjoy.
Without a doubt, my favourite reaction from you guys was "A Private Little War" It was illogical ;-). Also calling the Planet Killer a giant joint tickled me. My top ten episodes in no particular order and bear in mind I have watched TOS multiple times since 1969, are Amok Time. Mirror Mirror. Who Mourns for Adonais. The Doomsday machine. Catspaw. Journey to Babel. Obsession. The Deadly Years.Wolf in the Fold. By Any Other Name. My 3 honourable mentions are. The Ultimate Computer. The Trouble with Tribbles. and Patterns of Force.
Great choices from you both, I like a lot of episodes which are in your top 10s, 'Amok Time' is such a season opener and remains one of my all-time favourite episodes, 'Journey to Babel' is another favourite of mine too, along with 'Mirror Mirror' and 'A Piece of The Action' from this season. There are some great episodes coming in season three, and (for me at least) the worst episode of Star Trek ever too.
*My Season 2 Episode Ranking* 1. The Doomsday Machine 2. Mirror, Mirror 3. Journey to Babel 4. Friday's Child 5. A Piece of the Action 6. Amok Time 7. The Ultimate Computer 8. A Private Little War 9. The Trouble with Tribbles 10. The Immunity Syndrome 11. A Private Little War 12. My Any Other Name 13. The Wolf in the Fold This is all off the top of my head, and it's been a bit since I actually watched through some of these. I did 13 because there are 26 episodes in the season, so this is everything that's above the midpoint. Putting "Friday's Child" at number 4 is bound to be controversial, but I've always really liked that episode. You get the drama on The Enterprise, as Scotty maneuvers with the Klingons in space, and you get the drama on the ground, where political divisions within the tribe are exploited by the Klingons, leading to a coup and an interesting military engagement featuring primitive weapons.
D.C. Fontana was a woman by the way (Dorothy Fontana.) She went by D.C. so as to hide her gender because 1960s Hollywood felt women were only good for three things, and writing wasn't one of them. She will go on writing a number of episodes for season three (mostly under her pseudonym Michael Richards) as will Gene L. Coon (producer for last half of season one and most of season two), under his pseudonym Lee Cronin because by season three he was under contract with Universal Studios which prevented him from continuing to write for Star Trek under his real name.
So bizarre that people get angry about something that's completely subjective. Clearly most viewers enjoy reaction videos only as validation instead of accepting someone else's opinion. I consider a channel to be more genuine when creator's occasionally disagree with the general consensus. I'm really hoping you continue with STTNG.
Okay I'm putting my top ten list down before I view yours. My favourites 1. Amok Time 2.Mirror, Mirror 3.Journey to Babel 4.Trouble With Tribbles 5. The Doomsday Machine 6. The Immunity Syndrome 7. A Private Little War 8.A Piece of the Action 9.Wolf in the Fold 10. Cat's Paw Least favourite 1.Who Mourns for Adonais? 2.The Omega Glory 3.Bread And Circuses 4.Patterns of Force 5. Metamorphosis Sorry about that last one. I know you like it. Just not one of my favourites mostly because the Councillor/Senator/Ambassador character was so annoying. Still 20 other episodes I like less than Metamorphosis. Okay I'm ready now I can watch this one. Theodore Sturgeon was the writer for Amok Time and a classic sci-fi writer. I think the original joke was "Scotch!??! No one in Russia would drink that." which I always thought was better, more subtle. Miri was worse. Mudd's Women was worse. Operation Annihilate worse. Thought Kirk was right on as an old man incapable of realizing he was incompetent or accepting it. .
@@stuffyouotterlistento1461 Yeah I feel like I'm the only one who really likes Cat's Paw. Scared me as a kid. And Sylvia was always one of my favourite Kirk Women. Liked the Aliens at the end that Spock wanted to stick in a lab and study. For some reason knocking out Scotty and Bones and Sulu and then saying at least we have everyone together always seemed hilarious to me. Spock "More Alacrity if you please Captain. " always struck me as funny too. Liked the idea of them trying to tap into human consciousness to try to figure them out and missing and hitting the subconscious. Really liked the actor William Windom as Matt Decker . He was really all in . You need that for these science fiction shows. I thought the story idea was interesting. Norman Spinrad wrote the episode . It is a lot like Fred Sabrehagen's Beserker series which featured I believe giant robotic monsters careening through the galaxy mindlessly destroying everything they found.
Disagree with quite a few choices but it is very interesting to see you explain your reasoning for your decisions. By the way I never liked the “deadly years” now I’m in my 50s and it’s one of my favourites. It’s an age thing. 🤣
I like your reactions of adults watching these for the first time. The first episode of Srar Trek was aired 3 months before I was born. My memories were of reruns with the reactions of a child. You liked some of he epoisodes I did. But, some I didn't like you did. And, while it is episodic, I am a bit jealous you get to watch it for the first time in order.
I can't believe you guys didn't like Omega Glory. Captain Ron Tracy is badass amazing fight scenes with Kirk. Fighting the biological war that are ancestors avoided is great
I have a suggestion, after Star Trek season 3, watch the first 5 movies then watch ST Next Generation…also look at the movie dates and watch them in between Next Generation.
I swear they deal more with Spock's emotions precisely because he's emotionless. It'd be like if you had a human in a crew of androids, and they kept focusing on him going robotic. Let the emotionless guy be emotionless. It's what's cool about him.
He's not emotionless. That's the drama of his character. It's like living a life of celibacy. It does not mean you do not have the urge. Spock is depicted on many occasions as being "ambient" emotional. He's able to be sarcastic, glib, a total smart ass. He understands these things and he does indeed react to them. The goal is to be without emotion. Spock's never going to attain absolute absence of emotion. What he does achieve is a superb level of pragmatism and intellectual honesty.
@@OpenMawProductions I understand the idea behind it; I just don't particularly enjoy it. I find dealing with Spock's emotions tiresome and uninteresting. You have a full crew of people with human emotions; focus on them when you want that kind of thing.
@@OpenMawProductions Except for the bit about being rather mechanical in his mannerisms (no pun intended), and being obsessed with human emotions, yeah. Like, Spock is great; I just don't much get into the episodes that focus on him having the feels.
When you compare s1 and s2, I think the difference is in the tone maybe? Roddenberry took a much more serious approach in the first season, but when Coon took over in s2, he added a noticeable amount of levity as seen at the end of episodes when they would end it with some quip.
Everyone says the 3rd season is not good. I think you will find there are good episodes, some very good. Sadly, the season opener is a poor choice in “Spock’s Brain”. But unlike season 2, the opener sets the bar low. Look forward to your reactions.
@Target Audience, I love what you guys are doing. Now that you've seen the best two seasons of Star Trek, beware the quality does dip for the third but there are reasons for that so hang in there. The show was actually cancelled in 1968 and many of the top creative people left for other projects including both Genes and did not return for the third season. The network cut the budget significantly and the set design suffered as did the lighting. At times, they were reduced to repurposing props out of coffee lids painted black and glued to the wall or even sorting through the garbage at Paramount studios (no joke). Half the 24 episodes are either good or very good, the other half leave something to be desired or are not very good. Even when an episode is awful, however, there is *always* a redeeming feature, a memorable line or etc that still makes it worth watching and part of Trek lore.
1. "Mirror Mirror" 2. "Journey to Babel" 3. "Return to Tomorrow" 4. "The Doomsday Machine" 5. "Who Mourns for Adonais" 6. "The Ultimate Computer" 7. "By Any Other Name" 8. "Metamorphosis" 9. "The Trouble with Tribbles" 10. "Amok Time" Best Bad Episode: "Bread and Circuses." (The parallel-earth idea is terrible. But this one is great anyway!)
Thanks Guys . Really Appreciate that you have been doing this. It has been a nice way to see something I have seen for years through new eyes. I am fascinated that you both had Bread and Circuses in your top ten. I think when I first watched it I loved it but I don't know the faux christianity, the multiple Star Trek Epsiodes from a slightly different historical version of earth all sort of undercut this one for me. CBC did a Star Trek Parody that featured this plot line though I think in the parody Kirk turns down the slave girl and she storms off in a huff. "Fine, suit yourself, no skin off my Ass!!" Really have enjoyed seeing you watching these for the first time.
A lot of people will probably disagree here, but after season 3 you should watch the 73 animated series. Angela other things it includes the return of Alex's favorite intergalactic con man
This is overall my favourite season of TOS. My top 10 are: 10 A Piece Of The Action 9 By Any Other Name 8 The Deadly Years 7 Obsession 6 The Changeling 5 The Ultimate Computer 4 Wolf In The Fold 3 I, Mudd 2 The Trouble With Tribbles 1 Mirror Mirror

Watching younger guys watch this show for the first time is fun. It gives me some perspective on what aged well and what didn't. I don't watch any other reaction videos, but I like Alex and Josh because they never overreact. Either they're not faking a thing, or they both deserve academy awards.
this episode was the beginning of "MARK LEONARD's long run on the series and movies that came later
You'll be happy to know Dorothy Fontana also wrote what most fans consider the best episod of the animated series and the one they would put in canon. Like many female writers at the time she went by her initials, D.C., - and you thought sexism was a new thing.
Some real gems in season three. Enjoying your reactions.
I'm glad you brought up the score! I love the music during the seance scene in Wolf In The Fold
Q&A Josh was awesome! That was great. You should sell those :)
43:10 In the first two seasons, if you find yourself asking that question, and it's in any way related to a woman the answer is always "because Gene Roddenberry was horny."
"People often ask me will you ever stop using women as sex objects in your projects? No, I will not. As a young man I used to be a sex object, and I found it quite fun." - Gene Roddenberry.
Creative genius, and utter horndog.
I’m glad to see that The Immunity Syndrome is one of your favourites. I don’t like it and it’s one of the least liked episodes, but I like that you’ve connected with it! It’s good to see an original opinion for once.
Hilarious opening! Cracked me up!
My top ten are:
1. Mirror, Mirror
2. Amok Time
3. The Doomsday Machine
4. The Trouble with Tribbles
5. Journey To Babel
6. A Piece of the Action
7. The Immunity Syndrome
8. Obsession
9. The Ultimate Computer
10. By Any Other Name
Honorable mentions are: Bread and Circuses, Who Mourns for Adonais, and Assignment Earth
While I know Assignment Earth is questionable, I really enjoy time-travel episodes.

Fontana was also the head writer on the first season of The Six Million Dollar Man.
I'm already LMAO
a great discussion, the time just flew on by
Sensible chuckle for the opening bit. I thought it worked well.
My Jim routine is "Beam me up, Scotty!"
Ok, that opener was highlarious!!!
It's okay. You can say it. Season 2 is a mixed bag. Because it is.
Yes, I think 60s outer limits would work well on this channel.
Season 3 is largely considered the lesser of the three seasons. But given some of your favorites, least favorites, and some you're luke warm about, I'm thinking you might like season 3 more than most do.
Flavius, new mayor of Flavortown!
Not sure if you knew this, but the Ted Sturgeon who wrote for Star Trek is the same one behind Sturgeon's Law, which states (there's various versions): "Ninety percent of everything is crap." Sturgeon wrote the screenplays for "Shore Leave" and "Amok Time," plus an unused screenplay that introduced the idea of the "Prime Directive."
Sturgeon also prefigured the Artist Previously Known as Prince by appending a Q with an arrow through it as part of his signature, intended to remind everyone to "Ask the next question." ;)
The mugato comes back in Lower Decks (in a hysterical way.)
I'm surprised Doomsday Machine made Alex's top ten. I thought they were BOTH kinda down on that episode? The Commodore made Alex angry, and I think he'd rather be angry than plain bored. That anger ironically put Doomsday Machine in his top ten!
Nothing can prepare you for Season 3 so that's all I'm going to say about it.
I watched Star Trek when it first aired back in the 60’s. Mirror Mirror was my favorite ep of the entire series back then and it still is!
My top ten season 2 eps
1.Mirror Mirror
2.Amok Time
3.Journey to Babel
4.The Trouble with Tribbles
5.Metamorphosis
6.By Any Other Name
7.Return to Tomorrow
8.Obsession
9.The Gamesters of Triskelion
10.A Piece of the Action
Expect some bad eps in season 3, accept that's just how it is and then you can enjoy the really good ones!
The Deadly Years is one of my favorite Trek episodes but I appreciate the criticism.
🤝
You're in for a real treat with the season 3 premiere, "Spock's Brain!"
Best episode in human history.
“Brain and brain - what is brain?”
@@FallenHellscape "You are not Morg. You are not Imorg. What are you?"
Not one greatest episode blame it on producer Fred Frienger who kill space1999 second season
So bad it's good?
@@AlphanPeter I wouldn't go that far with that assessment. Freiberger was given a bad hand. The budget was slashed, Roddenberry had less involvement, etc. Freiberger produced the first half of Season 1 of The Wild Wild West, the best of WWW's four season, though the other seasons weren't bad either. Freiberger actually made Season 2 of Space:1999 a little better than Season 1.
Was missing my Star Trek fix with you guys
That is so good. I'm stealing that.😀
Assignment Earth gets no love here - but there were a lot of great ideas and plot elements in that story - and Robert Lansing played the part of Gary Seven perfectly.
Marianna Hill as Helen Noel in 'Dagger of the Mind'. Final answer.
Don't forget Yvonne Craig in green, or France Nyen as The Elaan of Troyius. Season 3 does have some stunning women!
I always had a crush on Sherry Jackson's Andrea from "What are Little Girls made of"? And her outfit definitely pushed me forward into puberty :P
@@BossNerd many ladies also appeared on Batman Yvonne Craig also played Batgirl I believe
@@dalepetersen1166 We should try to get the guys to watch the original 60s Batman Movie!
There's a South Park episode with a mirror universe Cartman.
He's NOT a dick and has a little Spock beard.
Always a fun endeavour. I like the comedy ones more than you do:
1. The Trouble with Tribbles
2. Mirror Mirror
3. Journey to Babel
4. The Doomsday Machine
5. I, Mudd
6. Amok Time
7. A Piece of the Action
8. Bread and Circuses
9. By Any Other Name
10. Wolf in the Fold
Wow...Bread and Circuses made some one's top ten list. For me that ending puts it in Omega Glory territory.
"Miri" is a great episode. it came out just after I saw the film "Bless the Best and the Children" - - I really saw some depth in performance
Season 3 does have a few of my personal favorites like "Day of the Dove" and "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield."
Not to get into any kind of spoilers, but it's important to understand that with Season 3, it almost didn't even happen.
Nice "bit" with Q&A Josh :)
This applies to movies too but I find it impossible to decide my favorite episodes. I’d have to make written notes I guess. It’s easy to choose terrible or great episodes but see ties everywhere. U guys do excellent work. Later, dudes!
Workout regiment: 6 hours of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, then a 6 pack of Sam Adams!
I'm surprised that absolutely no one has commented on the fact that D.C. Fontana is a woman. You'd think that somebody would've brought it up.
Season 3 will have two weddings, several really good Spock/McCoy moments as well as Big 3 moments, a few characters that will make appearances in other ST series, a couple dips into Shakespeare, Scotty's regrettable new hair style, and 5 of my least favorite episodes. Enjoy.
Begin Season 3!! Your subscribers demand it! We have spoken.
Great picks and fun video. Thanks, guys.
Good reaction guys...when will you be starting season 3?
*My Season 2 Episode Ranking*
1. The Doomsday Machine
2. Mirror, Mirror
3. Journey to Babel
4. Friday's Child
5. A Piece of the Action
6. Amok Time
7. The Ultimate Computer
8. A Private Little War
9. The Trouble with Tribbles
10. The Immunity Syndrome
11. A Private Little War
12. My Any Other Name
13. The Wolf in the Fold
This is all off the top of my head, and it's been a bit since I actually watched through some of these.
Thanks for giving "Friday's Child" some love! I have always enjoyed it too, and your reasons are legit!
DC Fontana is finally getting some credit, but I feel like Gene Coon is such an unsung hero.
Great choices on both lists. The Changeling is an episode I have on my Top Ten for the season because it includes some character moments with Uhura.
My favourites
1. Amok Time
2.Mirror, Mirror
3.Journey to Babel
4.Trouble With Tribbles
5. The Doomsday Machine
6. The Immunity Syndrome
7. A Private Little War
8.A Piece of the Action
9.Wolf in the Fold
10. Cat's Paw
Least favourite
1.Who Mourns for Adonais?
2.The Omega Glory
3.Bread And Circuses
4.Patterns of Force
5. Metamorphosis
Sorry about that last one.
Thought Kirk was right on as an old man incapable of realizing he was incompetent or accepting it.
.
Solid list. The only thing I see I disagree with is "Cat's Paw" (and "The Doomsday Machine" not being higher on your list).
Q&A Josh was very funny!
The first 6 movies has the original cast.
@@ronaldbeam8603 I was looking at the air dates of how I originally watched the movies and series
@@stuffyouotterlistento1461 Ah, so more... Like Data?
@@OpenMawProductions Except for the bit about being rather mechanical in his mannerisms (no pun intended), and being obsessed with human emotions, yeah. Like, Spock is great; I just don't much get into the episodes that focus on him having the feels.
@@stuffyouotterlistento1461 It's mostly about his inner conflict.
FUN FACT! If you set the playback speed to 0.75 you can listen to two drunk guys discuss Star Trek.
I think you'll actually like more than a few episodes of season 3. Maybe even some of the ones that really go off the rails.
I love season 3...can't wait
Wow.. How much grief is he getting for referring to DC Fontana as he.
I love Assignment: Earth
1. "Mirror Mirror"
2. "Journey to Babel"
3. "Return to Tomorrow"
4. "The Doomsday Machine"
5. "Who Mourns for Adonais"
6. "The Ultimate Computer"
7. "By Any Other Name"
8. "Metamorphosis"
9. "The Trouble with Tribbles"
10. "Amok Time"
Best Bad Episode: "Bread and Circuses." (The parallel-earth idea is terrible. But this one is great anyway!)
I love the deadly years. Top 5 episode for me. Assignment Earth is top 20 for me. Doomsday Machine is no. 1 for me.
"Fine, suit yourself, no skin off my Ass!!"
Really have enjoyed seeing you watching these for the first time.
A lot of people will probably disagree here, but after season 3 you should watch the 73 animated series. Angela other things it includes the return of Alex's favorite intergalactic con man
I am sure there are fans who would watch a video about Alex's gym routine.

5 The Ultimate Computer
4 Wolf In The Fold
