This is exactly where I’m at. I used to only do powerlifting (bench, squat, deadlift) but after finding Clarence I really love Olympic weightlifting as well.
When lifting heavy, this method is very efficient if done correctly. That being said, everything has to be perfect and so does the timing. When you get it right you’ll know because everything flows so smoothly.
the reason why his catching position is more stable is because the bar is way closer to his body making it easier to raise his elbows and put force evenly into the ground while catching the bar. the ability to do that is determind by the qualitiy of one´s pull and since his is better (shoulder above bar, bar leaving near the hip, full extension) his catching position is more solid. but still great tips and drills.
Yup I did exactly what the elite guy did one time and beat someone in a clean during max out day and the other guy was supposed to be a better player (higher team)
This is a great video. I'm glad someone tagged you in one of my videos to make a roast video of me, because I subsequently found this. I've always called the "bar crash" simply "getting crushed by the bar". I've always taught novice lifters in my classes to throw out the notion of "dropping under" the bar. Instead, I want them to meet the bar at the apex with "fast elbows" then ride it down, which will eliminate the crash. I have a video coming out about it, but will send it to you for tweaks/additions first. Good stuff man.
Hi Zack i just wanted to say thank you for the amazing information, I've been following your channel for a bout two months now and my clean has shot up by 20 kg just because I've listened to your advice. Thank you man the speed under the bar stuff really helped me out!
you're slowing it down against gravity not slowing down after the triple extension. the more time you spend placing force against the decending bar the better the force transfer.
excellent video ive been struggling meeting the bar since i started weightlifting will def gives these movements alot of attention in the coming future
Hi zack been following you for a while , i got into crosfit about 5 months ago , i was doing regular exercise before , i had a over confident thought that due to me doing quite intensive yoga , i would at least be able to get into the position ie ssquat snatch , but humbled and looking for help i found your page and after a few months , ive now managed to get into the position, just to add im 49 ( seemec important to state this , not sure why ha ha ) , ive moved up ok with adding weight and up to 20 kilos now , so thanks and thanks for your great page , im actually thinking of going for a course in strength trianing now ...cheers and keep up the good work
It is proven since day one, if shrug and extend properly, everything should follow through, and bounce off the clean. Just proper technique. Make it simple. Don't complicate yourself.
What do you advise for receiving the bar and not being able to just slam it on the floor? Great videos. Tried that slow-down-shoulder-press drill, works (and surprisingly fast). At least for me.
Your high hang clean is way different then mine. As soon as I'm pulling the bar I'm also under the bar once the bar would be belly button height as my bottom squat rebound zone gives the bar a maximum drop of inches verses your two feet...
Awesome videos. Did CrossFit for three years and now I am into "Starting Strength" by Rip. Read two entire books but you fill the gap for the olympic movements and drills in order to increase cleaning technique.
So you want to catch the bar at its highest point, because the least amount of force is required to handle it? Unracking 220 kg is much easier than catching 220 kg already falling some centimeters.
Comment Zack will never see. I found after doing multiple cleans that my hips are uneven and I have to put my left foot further forward then my right. Am I condemned now ?
hey man, I don't even know if you're going to read this but a tip for your clean is your feet replacing feet. so, when you high pull off the ground with the bar, notice where your feet are. you want your feet to stomp into the ground where they started. when you start, you start with narrow feet and then after your clean, they are wide and you have to step back to the normal position everytime. work on your feet and the top rack will come to you as you pointed in the video. other then that, keep trying cause maybe one day you can lift as much as the guy in the video, or even more if you wanted to.
Me: being able to pull up 225 up to my belly button but not really knowing how to drop the hips. So basically you practice the timing with different weights to see what position you need to get to for each weight your cleaning ?
Zack great work really, keep it up ... I want to make a comment, the "clean" is more about short pull(high above the belly button) not as high as snatch.
Just asking, have you ever thought of footwork, like receiving the bar behind or in front. Cause if you look closely, Zaichikov receive the bar just slightly in front from where he started. I personally catch about half a foot in front. From your clean, I noticed you receive the bar slighty behind and with a body lean similar to your address position which I think is too much. Cause i find that catching the bar deep in my bottom position with a upright torso puts me in a more advantageous position.
shoulders over the bar, extend with the knees in the first pull. when bar is past knees start using a little more glute. bar should reach the "power position" as first contact and that is when you triple extend
This is all dependent on coaching. Many people hit the hip with bent arms and technically that isn't Ideal. If you hit the hip because of your limb length and your arms arm almost completely straight, that is defintely better off. If you look closely Zaichikov hits his upper thigh but he is very close to his hip crease. This spot where the bar hits in that clean most ideal in my opinion.
Ok so I’m really weak and small and currently I hang clean a 10 on each side but I do it really easily like I can just lift it up without using my legs but I can go up to 2 tens on each side
Why do I keep thinking your barbell crash is caused by too easy of a weight for you, or you’re dropping unnecessary low to catch it?? The bar travels that high, therefore no need to drop so low to catch?
So I’m a high school senior who does 225 for clean and after a couple reps squatting it back up becomes insanely hard is there anything I can do other than more front squats
Allex Thompson I suggest doing various tempos for front squats like pausing at the bottom or taking like 3 seconds to push the weight back up. This is what works for me.
The real reason is, you are applying too much force. You pull too high. Belly-Button is maximum for clean. You want to power clean but then drop down like full clean. Barcrash, no good.
I didnt care about oly lifting until Clarence.
I didnt know how to oly lift until you.

This is exactly where I’m at. I used to only do powerlifting (bench, squat, deadlift) but after finding Clarence I really love Olympic weightlifting as well.
Zack every clean u do is a tall clean
Sad.
No it’s not.
GammA138 someone missed the joke
😂

Literally whenever I need to know anything about weightlifting I just go to your channel thank you!!
Check put athlean x he is better
Chase Nelson ahaha yes but actually no no nooooo no.
Man keep these up please! So good

Well said

Agreed. Looks like Zacks bar was more over his toes too. If he got back on his heels it would probably correct the bar distance from his body.
@@ashwagers "If he got back on his heels" - your comment is now invalid

As somebody that's a little too pov to afford a weightlifting coach, I really appreciate you putting these videos up!

Good tips. I will use these in my next training session.
You should be catching the bar at it's highest point, in other words when it's stationary, so you shouldn't have to be slowing the bar down.
David I always catch the bar as low as I possibly can
you're slowing it down against gravity not slowing down after the triple extension. the more time you spend placing force against the decending bar the better the force transfer.
Going to give this a try. 👏🏿
Thanks for sharing

Man, it is so enjoyable to watch these athletes. All of them are so impressive.

This makes so much sense now!
Your content is so good! Very thoroughly and articulately explained.
That front squat upward motion speed is fucking ridiculous! Atheltic AF.
great explanation, thanks

Would love to see a turnover and grip in turnover video! Thanks for the content, new subscriber here for the long haul

thanks for the info dude i never thought about it like that
Totally thought it was you doing 220kg! But great exercises in this video!
This video is so helpful. Thank U!!!!!! 🙏🏻💗
Dude can stand up faster with 220 than you with an empty bar lol
That’s 135
@@matthewokoh7947 how is that 135? :DD wtf

shoulders over the bar, extend with the knees in the first pull. when bar is past knees start using a little more glute. bar should reach the "power position" as first contact and that is when you triple extend
I will watch more of your videos, now that I wan to increase my CJ
0:27 Yeah but Lasha snatches this now. ;)
Cause lasha weights more!
When doing olympic lifts, how hard do you grip the bar? Full on grip or a loose grip?
Incutebus solid hook grip
Deadlifting or cleaning I always feel like I'm running into my legs and it completely throws off my balance and technique. I don't get it.
Nice bro
I saw the pole and I was like omg this at houston grb
how tall are you. you just skinny or tall or both?
Feet or too wide. You’ll be much stronger with narrower stance but you have to get down under it fast. Like the big guy does
One short question to a pro like you... do you should hit the bar with the hip in the Clean or not?... For me it looks like mr Zaichikov hits it
This is all dependent on coaching. Many people hit the hip with bent arms and technically that isn't Ideal. I'm in the same place
Allex Thompson I suggest doing various tempos for front squats like pausing at the bottom or taking like 3 seconds to push the weight back up. This is what works for me.
Getting your legs stronger, I mean that's what I'd say. Doing your max on clean is sort of like a front squat max too.
doing some back squats to get stronger
can u program for me .. can you be my coach
The real reason is, you are applying too much force. You pull too high. Belly-Button is maximum for clean. You want to power clean but then drop down like full clean. Barcrash, no good.
Like me I'm 5,'10 with a 6'5 wingspan short torso long legs I feel like I struggle to get under the bar fast enough
for the algo
The real crime here is vetical filming
I get what you mean, but since the bar path is nearly vertical in weightlifting, it helps the viewer analyze the form of the lifter.
-,' RED ',- no the real crime here is your spelling of vertical
Why would you use landscape? all the action in weightlifting is up and down.
The real crime is your vocabulary
2 years later I hope youve realized you error.
can you coach me ...
Correction @0:20. 220 kg is 485 lb, not 484.
I’m 15 and my clean and jerk is only 225 POUNDS

my coaches main focus is always triple extension
Ethan Wilkins fucking beast of a 15 year old, especially if you’re lean

220kg? That's light weight. On the internet, I've 490 kg snatches.
