- So Audemars Piguet / AP just announced that if you bought a NEW watch from their boutiques and it gets STOLEN, they will replace, repair it refund you for FREE under their new AP Coverage Service. AP Coverage Service is a FREE service that can be activated online and covers 2-years for Theft. AP still holds discretion to approve or deny claims and will cover up to $55,000 of their watch.

I was thinking this to like what if you just had someone you know “steal” it and go get another? Technically you’d be able to get another for free and be able to sell the other of just give it to your friend 😂😂
@@MM22362 and that is how I know this is just a scam on AP’s part.. they are going to flood you with questions and require all types of documentation verifying your claims before they finally decline your “replacement”.. like “where is the police report?”, “Were there any witnesses?”, “Were there any security footage?”, “Did you call and file a police report immediately after the incident?”, “did you wear the watch in a known dangerous area? And if so, that was your fault for putting yourself at guaranteed risk”.. and so it goes until you give up and realize they’re not replacing a damn thing.
As his friend I can say we are both upstanding citizens

The thing to note with regards to this coverage is that it covers you if ‘YOU’ purchased from a ‘boutique’. So if you’ve purchased this on the grey market, they will provide 0 coverage. Now bearing in mind that most AP’s end up on the grey market and AP know this, it’s very clever marketing on their behalf as the actual claims they will end up paying out on are very low indeed!

Highly doubtful considering you have to be in a certain tax bracket to even acquire such an item.
Rolexes sell like hot cakes if you can get them to sell you while AP and Pateks are in ultra luxury brands that don’t make them in higher quantities to begin with and if their customers stop buying those these type of measurements you see from brands
. Niether AP nor patek has that many models that are below 55k anyway while Rolex starts around USD 3k/4k .
People who would do that wouldn't be allowed to buy at their boutique.
Considering how much each of the watches cost, they'd probably be investigating it like insurance companies investigates claims

At $55k coverage it would in theory fully replace any of their stainless steel Royal Oaks, but not the gold or ceramic ones, and the all the regular & chronograph Code 11.59s. Though to be fair, if your spending $100k+ for a gold royal oak, you probably dont need the coverage anyways.

I remember the Rolex chairman stating it cost approx 300 USD to manufacture a non precious metal Rolex many years ago, before he got shut up rapidly.😅. I wonder how much an AP equivalent costs to make 🤔
Well rolex is a mass produced watch, so that's why it's cheap as f but when you get to patek those watches are hand made some even take as much as 5 years to make so the price of those watches are justified, but rolex hell nah

The service is worthless if they have no watches to sell. The NYC boutique had nothing to sell. 0 inventory when i stopped by a month ago.

Super clones can make the same watch for 1500 bucks. They sell them to us for 50K. Yeah they got enough margin
I think it’ll depend on where you’ll wear it, because in some places, you can literally get your wrist shopped off to take whatever is on it. But still it’s really cool that AP are doing this, they definitely get more customers with it.

Watches of Switzerland offer this service, price varies watch to watch but if you purchase insurance 3/5 years you are covered for that period. A tissot PRX is about £50-70 for 5 years
Just an excuse to sell the “EXTENDED WARRANTY”. This claim will be too hard to prove and most likely people will get denied unless they have a strong history of purchasing AP’s.
The Extended warranty is FREE, just have to sign up. Everyone wants to assume an additional agenda, it’s literally just what it is

To be fair, it’s actually pretty good coverage, and would fully replace a “lower tier” Royal Oak.
Seems like something a company would do if they wanted to inflate the value of their product. More people want to steal them because you’re less likely to really look for a thief when everything is covered/insured
It’s not for free. If you extend you warranty to 5 years, which costs more money then they will give you the ‘free 2 years’ coverage. There are no free lunches.

That basically blows every single high-end watchmaker out of the water, because now people will not be hesitant to wear the watch that they like, and necessarily they won’t have to ensure it because the manufacturer is going to back it, but it comes down to really what the stipulations are behind AP’s stipulations for what they cover that I want to see
It’s a good marketing strategy to acquire buyers in the short term given that a sustainable business model is not necessarily the foremost priority.
AP knows that people stopped buying luxury watches due to theft. So they willing to give you new watch just keep spend your money on luxury watch
Great idea because they can sell the warranty for more then the watch actually costs to make. Watch probably costs them 5k to make and they charge 55k to you
The warranty & coverage service is free though, you just have to register after your purchase

If they just put a very tiny tracking device in it, that is factory made or approved, it would help more. Because the average thief couldn’t take it out without breaking it or destroying and then it would be worthless.

This is something that fell out of commonality in the 40s and 50s, longines and it's sub companies were among some who had systems like these. It's good to hear it's coming back sound but sad that it's for 25k$ and up watches.

Yes. Its free marketing. Other people wont wanna buy an ap until they see one and there is a wow factor. Most people wont wear a $100,000 watch at all because obviously there is a risk involved so their coverage is 100% giving them an roi

The watches are so overpriced that they can afford to give you several for the price you pay for one that’s the only reason this works.
People who cab afford to buy an AP don't have to falsely file a theft claim.
the problem is AP doesn't sell any watch to you if you are not vip enough. I put my name on list since apr last year for offshore and 11.59 and they never call me back

I would tell my friend to hold onto my watches and other expensive items in my home. Make a police report and get it all refunded

So you are just paying for insurance with the additional cost of the warranty… Just buy separate insurance.

I don’t think people realise the Difficulty of obtaining a piece from the AP gallery ..
Personal take: Even if they promise the replacement/insurance for their watches, it is more of the watch being an indicator for thieves to assault you in attempt to not only steal your watch, but also other belongings. Basically the watch is a "look Im rich come rob me" sign for these people. Obviously in most situations you should be safe to wear your watch around in public but also keep in mind that possibility I have described.
What that means is that it costs them so little to make a watch that they can afford to do this over and over and again.
No, someone wrote a comment which makes a great argument as to why they did so. What they said is that by encouraging people to wear their watches in cities, AP will just be more visible, therefore this is a move from AP which they hope will generate more sales than losses

Good on them here in the uk it’s not too uncommon for someone to get shot or their hand chopped off over a watch cause they don’t want to give it. Just gives you peace of mind which is worthless

A perfect way to black list grey market dealers. When the unsuspecting buyer activates the theft warranty online and the purchase name and warranty name don’t Mach ( you are not allowed to sell your watch when purchased brand new for a minimum amount of time)

It sounds really good. But ppl who where those watches usually have entourages. For us regular folks. I would like to hear that from omega. When I went to get mine they never mentioned anything like that nor did I know any better to ask. I do feel a bit uncomfortable walking downtown houston after a concert wearing a nice watch tho. I been approached before to make compliments and to look closer by sketchy ppl. So idk man sounds too good now that I’m thinking about it

Well... Whats the wait time for a AP at a boutique? Are there any pre-requirements to buy one or to get on the waiting list? Wonder what the small print of this?
